I got a job working as part of the support crew of a small company that flys small Jet's and Dash 8's. I have a CPL and Multi-Engine Instrument Rating, looking to try and fit in hours flying on days off and weekends, either in jump-piloting, glider tow etc. Also considering flight instructing. Do you think think this is a good way to go about it?

What about the kind of hours? For example multi-engine vs single engine time?

You think it’s possible to make a video on how to know which on college to choose I seen in a previous video you brought it up but it’s hard to know which one to pick when they all have such different offers,prices and expectations

Hi Pibby, Its tough to say because everyone's needs and expectations on what they want from college are different. As a first generation immigrant to the US, I grew up in a single parent household where money was virtually non-existent. Going to a expensive aviation university was not an option for me so I enrolled in a local junior college, transferred to UC Irvine, worked on my ratings, and held a full time job. I didn't have any social life, but it paid off tremendously years later. I was able to graduate university with only $18,000 in loans and paid for my training in cash with the jobs and "side hustles" I worked. This was the scenario that worked well for me due to my situation, yours is most likely different so I recommend researching about the different universities and colleges then making an informed decision. Best of luck to you!

I’m 17 years old and currently getting my PPL. How should I start creating my network of people now? I met a pilot in the airport who worked for Envoy and he gave me some advice and his number to ask him questions. Should I keep doing stuff like that? Should I try to have a relationship with all the CFIs at my flight school? Great videos btw!

Hi Carson, Great question. First off you’re ahead of the game getting your license at 17. I started at 19 and got hired at the airlines at 23. You hit the nail on the head about networking. Make friends with anyone and everyone you can that has a passion for aviation. When I was a flight instructor in 2002, I didn’t know a soul at the airlines so I got a job as a ramp agent and literally spoke to every pilot I could while I loaded cargo pits. I got a call for an interview within 6 months. Turned out 2 of the pilots I networked with were on the pilot interview team. Work hard and keep plugging away. The future for aviation is bright!

My first three flight schools I worked for as a CFII, I was lucky to log 20 hours per month. Got a job doing aerial survey of natural gas pipelines, and I started logging 150 hours/month. So it really all depends on the companies you serve.

Hi! i am 23 years old currently doing CPL IR from Pakistan. Since the aviaiton industry here isn't doing so good since a long time. I wanted to know what should be my roadmap to build my hours? Do European,airlines hire outsiders? Also are there any opportunies for fresh pilots having 250 hours top get our first job to build flight time other than the CFI? Thank you this is an amazing channel!
@mianatwood
@mianatwood Жыл бұрын
What’s up dude, I’m a Pakistani American. Pakistan pilots are looked down upon tbh. I think you probably already know this. It will be hard for you to get hired aboard. The best thing to do would be to actually apply for f1 visa and train at a pilot school in the U.S. the flight school I used to go to was owned by an Indian Muslims guy and most of the students there were international taiwanese student. You’ll probably have to come here, get the f1 visa to be a student then maybe get hired somewhere as a CFI and etc. I’m sure there is a lot more that goes into it but you can talk to flight schools that have internationals students, I’m sure they’ll have all these answers for you.

I think this video needs an update. They have changed requirements since "rona-rirus" (hiding from the algorithm) lock downs and most, if not all, are also dropping their Bachelor's degree requirements and hour requirements.

Potentially a dumb question, is there a format most places prefer for an aviation resume? Or is it the typically “job application” format with information of licenses and certifications added in? I am a Commercial student currently, so quite some time before a make one.

Hello, I’m going to start my pilot journey in 3 weeks at UND. Do you think going to UND for bachelors in commercial aviation give me a leg up in the aviation industry, because of the great program, jobs fairs and connections I will make there? Or is it all about hours and seniority?
@ocflightlessons
@ocflightlessons Жыл бұрын
Hi Trevor, My childhood friend went to ERAU whereas I went to a community college, transferred to University of California while instructing. He was hired at Continental Airlines in 2005 via his internship connection at continental. Attending ERAU gave him access to that intership which in turn led to a job at Continental at the age of 25 in a much different environment where thousands of furloughs were on the street. If UND has internships available at a major airline, fight tooth and nail to get one and knock their socks off while you’re there. Make a good impression on them and keep in contact with them. Best of luck!

Don’t mean to nitpick, but 1,200 hours a year is more than is allowed by the FAA is it not? (Not sure if this is different in different countries) at 3:30

Hi Tyler, Thanks for contributing. You caught me showing me age! When I was hired at the regionals 20 years ago, you were permitted to fly 100 hours per month, 1200 hours per year in turbprops. I don't believe there are any more turbprops at the 121 carriers in the USA. Such a shame because they were so much fun to master and fly. Take care!

Hello OMAR I have question, Someone who has lumbar disc surgery، cab be a pilot and flight for Airlines?
@ocflightlessons

Hi Abu, Having the surgery itself does not disqualify you from becoming a pilot. As long as you’re able to perform your job duties and pass an FAA medical exam, you can work as a professional pilot. Best wishes, Omar

I'm 44 now. Is it too late for me to become a commercial pilot? How many flight hours need? What's the first thing to do to become a pilot? What do I need to do? Thank you
@ocflightlessons
@ocflightlessons Жыл бұрын
Hi Jay, It is not too late. In 2006, when I was a PHX based captain at a regional airline, new hire first officer was 51 years old. He decided to change careers. I would recommend a accelerated program that can get you done ASAP, then start building hours as fast as you can. You need 1500 to get hired at an airline. Best of luck!

I’m 15 years old, currently still in High school. I’ve been searching about diploma and stuff. According to the chief flight instructor at my flight school, she told me there isn’t really a diploma that is required. However online I keep finding people saying: “you need university degree, college degrees” or even more. So now I am really confused. Anyone know what I actually need? I know the license is necessary and I am currently working on it, but I am really confused about Diploma
