There are several problems with water quality in the hot summertime! If it's not right they won't bite! Oxygen too low, temperature too high, pH wrong and no bait fish to name a few. I'll show you some easy ways to find productive bass fishing waters!

Funny you brought up tasting the water for salinity. Family has fished Flamingo in Everglades National Park since before it was a park. As a kid and into my adult life when I fished the back country and got way up into the headwaters tasting the water was exactly how you knew whether you were going to catch bass or saltwater fish. Often some species of saltwater fish like tarpon and snook would make that transition and you caught them right along with the bass. Still holds true today. Retired up to north central Florida and now fish all these little lakes and everything you say is so true. The health of a lake is so important and all you have to do is be observant to what is around you. As you know we did not have all these fancy electronics and technology and stuff growing up. It was a learning process. Not far behind you in age and have followed you all along, long before the Internet, you are an inspiration to us "older" guys. Keep it up.

I have wondered why I can catch guality bass from feb. Thru early may and when its really heats up here in Texas then the fish disappear! Gone or have lockjaw! You made so much sense. I fish the State Park just a few miles from my house and when they pick back up in mid Oct. The fight is on! Thanks for explaining it so a retired brickmason can check temps and check for baitfish. Keep up the informative shows cause other shows showus how many fish they can catch but dont really explain why. Love your channel and I'm always lookinng forward to them.

Another excellent non boring teaching video by my favorite fisherman! I'm going to get one of those wonderful PH and water temperature toys! Thanks Roland! Folks, Jimmy Houston is another longtime favorite. For more great fishing tips and a great startup, search and subscribe to his daily Catch Of The Day program here on KZfaq. You will be blessed there too!

This made so much sense, everything you explained was probably why I didn’t have the best luck fishing the other day. I was fishing a spot where I KNOW fish are at, but because of the water temperature they just didn’t want to bite, very lethargic! Hey by the way I spent time in Maryland, I was at Ft. Meade for Military training. Thanks for the video Mr. Martin!

Amazing video Roland, I’m here in Okeechobee and wanted to know your thoughts on the spraying they are doing all around the lake. With what you said about decaying plant matter using up the O2 in the water wouldn’t the decaying plant matter from the spraying cause the depletion of O2 levels in that area? I live on the canal that connects to the back side of Nubbin Slough and have noticed when they don’t spray the fish in in the canal is a lot more active but after I see them spraying the fishing is completely dead and takes like a couple of months before the fish seem to turn back on. Until this video I never thought about the decaying g plant matter in the water effecting the O2 levels but now I firmly believe this is what’s effecting the fishing around my home. Also was curious if you had any good tips for talapia fishing as far as baits and rigs, the canal I’m speaking of is absolutely slap full of them but they seem finicky on what they will eat.

Roland, very interesting information on what water bass prefer. I have one of those temperature gauges but never thought about using it to test the temperature. I have a 1985 skeeter and I need something to put more oxygen in the livewell. What would you suggest?🎣🐟🦌🦃
