the list..... aahhh the list... i know that moment of "this person is nothing i ever expected to be in love with but it just doesnt matter anymore".... and usually, at least in my case, i was broken up with and explanation was basically "you dont have x y z points from my list".... this time it was the same. and it felt wrong. but it cleared up. she just really got into my best friend who we saved from big trouble and lived together a bit. and a year before we fought with that friend and stopped talking because i couldn't spend so much time with him because i was getting into this relationship. and a month before now he shows up, hes in big trouble and need basically life saving help., we provide that help, but also all this happens life is weird

Hang in there. We all go through breakups, and I imagine we all know what that inner turmoil feels like. If you’re in here and trying to learn and do better, than you’re on the right path to healing. And there is a better stronger you on the other side of what you’re going through.

at 7:00, It would have been nice to reference Bergers "lovers discourse: Fragments", as its form allows for a very successful attempt at classifying love beyond the singular word and retaining its beauty.

What does it mean to believe in the unbelievable? I'm wondering if you can give a concrete example? Is it just a kind of "belief in believing"? Likewise, when you said you trust because you've seen what the person does in the past, that seems more like a predictive strategy (I go with this sports team because they often win) rather than the kind of excessive trust I thought you were going to say - i.e., i trust simply as an excess of affirmation. Thanks for these wonderful videos

I love this channel. I'm curious, don't you find this a bit contradictory. You are saying first that it is better to be intrrsting, that is to have something to die for and later you are discussing idea that you should embrace futile experience, and be wary of things that appear to purposeful. Isn't willingness to die for something precisely that: grand meaningful project.

I am sorry to inform you that your Pushkin quote was taken out of context. The phrase "The less we love a women, the more we appeal to her" (rough translation by me) is promptly followed by "So thought my youthful [friend] Onegin". Onegin is the protagonist of the lyrical novel "Eugene Onegin". The main character starts off essentially as a superficial narcissist womanizer. His greatest tragedy is that such life to him is excruciatingly boring and unfulfilling, so much so that he moves to a countryside where he meets Tatiana who then confesses her love to him. He rejects her, she ends up marrying a rich guy and moving to the capital. When they meet next time, Onegin falls in love with Tatyana (probably because she is out of his reach now), but now she is the one who rejects him. She essentially says that she still loves him, but she is now married to another and will be a faithful wife. Onegin is not exactly a character to represent author's own opinions. In your defense though, many even in Russia misquote this, this aphorism has got a life of its own.

Thanks for this! I’m aware of the context and I suppose I wanted to use it as a kind of truism. But I really appreciate your comment nonetheless and it’s a reminder to me to not eschew the complexity, as clearly some of the viewers are familiar with the context

I'm not totally convinced by your circular type reasoning... Like if I want something i go in the opposite direction? If I'm starving and start saying "boy it sure would be terrible if a cheeseburger fell into my lap" its not like its going to happen realistically. Idk, I heard so many times the krishna murti line "stop seeking and you will find" and I've experienced those moments of discovery where things materialize as if by accident, but it begs the question, whats the point of pursuing anything? You've get me thinking with these talks, its real good listening.

From what I understood (and I've only watched this once so I could be off), it's not about actively seeking the opposite of your desire, but it's rather about the fact that what you THINK is your desire is in fact some sort of mirage, whereas the things that are ontologically more true to the notions of your desire (love, forgiveness, etc) can only happen when you don't EVEN THINK you are desiring them, and that is because the criteria that you use to desire them are false to begin with.
@theonlygoodlookinghabsburg2081
@theonlygoodlookinghabsburg2081 Жыл бұрын
In your example, it wouldn't be you wishing away a cheeseburger when you're starving, it would be you actually losing all hope about getting a cheeseburger whilst starving, only then can you truly hope to have a cheeseburger, regardless of your chances of actually getting one. This isn't just about the act of getting that cheeseburger, it's more about hope itself. Your desire to get a cheeseburger whilst starving is only borne out of hunger, whereas hope in the face of hopelessness is borne out of the fall of hope itself, or at least what you think would constitute hope.
@mikelopez9071
@mikelopez9071 Жыл бұрын
@@theonlygoodlookinghabsburg2081 If I may distill your response: it's only once I lose all hope for attainment of my true desire does the hope emerge....? Going back to my stupid cheese burger analogy, I wish for the cheese burger, but my true desire is just not to be hungry and only once I lose hope of getting that cheeseburger will I receive hope of satiating my hunger with... Anything else that's available...?

Avoid clichés like the plague --it's a no-brainer. (A quote from Steven Pinker's book Sense of Style.) I finally found out why i find these video's so hard to digest. The fact that this guy is quoting every philosopher there is does not mean he is practicing philosophy. If a piece of text is littered with clichés you lose the thread of thought and that is why you should use it only very sparse and strongly linked to your line of reasoning. The same goes for this guy. Quoting Zizek, Lacan, Hegel, Marx left and right obfuscates the fact that he actually says very little meaningful himself. It is a collection of oneliners and everybody can take from it what sticks and resonates. That is probably why he is so popular. Now i do not say that he has nothing to say, maybe he is too insecure to start his own narrative. But i sure would encourage him to do so because it is always much more constructive and interesting to hear what someone actually has to say when they decide to drop the veil they try to hide behind because ultimately they only hide from their own inner voice and do not fool anyone but themselves.

He is in lecturer mode as opposed to using real life scenarios and conversational style to revivify these concepts and in doing so you get visceral examples/ imagery of how to operationalize and them. The concepts are shown embodied- through the Hegelian hermeneutical lens. I hear what you are saying ( I think…😬)

I am not a schooled philosopher. I tried to study that once and at first it felt that up until that point i had been wandering in a desert and i finally found an oasis with water that i could drink and replenish. Then i fell into the pool and i almost drowned. So i stopped the study and started using philosophy as a way to survive my daily existence. That worked much better. It is also the reason this guy rubs me the wrong way with his indiscriminate way of dumping his knowledge onto KZfaq and not interacting with his commenters. The essence of KZfaq for me should be interacting with the feedback you get. Other philosophers like Hans Georg Moeller do a much better job with that. www.youtube.com/@carefreewandering/videos @@happygucci5094
