You definitely have to luck out and have good timing to get the penny items. I went to 10 different stores on Tuesday and one store I only found 1 item and 1 store I found 200. Sometimes you get lucky.

Different stuff goes to a penny usually every Tuesday. If something goes to a penny it will usually stay that way for months but sometimes the dollar general system will reset an item in a day so you never really know if it will stay a penny for long. It's always a good idea to use the dollar general app to scan items to make sure they are still a penny. If they are a penny the price will say $0.00 when you scan it.

How do you know what is a penny item? They have prices pasted on them, so I assume I’m missing something. ?

If you scan the items with the Dollar General app on your phone then you can check to see if they are ringing up a penny in your location. If they say $0.01 or $0.00 on the app then they will ring up a penny at the register. I just put out a new video about how to penny shop at Dollar General. If you are new to penny shopping you might find it helpful.

They aren't supposed to do that, if your store has a self checkout you might want to try that. I have filled out negative reviews for stores that refuse to sell items before and had the district manager call and talk to me. You can try that but theres still no guarantee they will change their behaviors. It's frustrating when employees don't follow their own stores policy.

Almost every Tuesday different items go down to a penny. To find out what the latest penny items are you can watch youtube videos and join Facebook groups. Right now the yellow dot accessories, green dot Homegoods, and Halloween stuff is a penny. There are always random things that are penny items too so you have to scan them in your app to check.

They aren't supposed to do that but some employees get angry and make up their own rules. I'm sorry you experienced the negative side of penny shopping. I've had a cashier take my stuff and throw it in the trash before. 🤦‍♀️

Will I be able to get these items on any day for a penny?

They start being a penny on Tuesday and then they usually stay ringing up a penny for at least a few weeks before they reset to full price in the Dollar General system. You can get the items any day after they've hit a penny but they will get harder and harder to find. It is best to use the dollar general app and scan the items to make sure they are a penny. They will ring up $0.00 in the app of they cost a penny.

Sometimes I just let it go but if the cashier is rude and makes a scene I have filled out surveys and had district managers call me so I can share what happened.

I like to go through the self checkout when I just have a few things. Some employees are nice and don't mind when you go through the register but sometimes they end up being not so nice . It really just depends on what store and how the employees act on rather I choose the self checkout or cashier.

Then go to Dollar General and if you see this items scan them in the dollar general app and see if they are a penny at your store.

The tags of what is a penny can change often. Right now the 2023 yellow dot accessories are a penny but there are new yellow dots out that are 2024 and they are full price. Penny shopping can be very confusing. You have to watch weekly videos and/ or look through a lot of Facebook groups to start memorizing what is currently a penny so you can search for it in your store. Sometimes the cashier doesn't know it's a penny until they scan it on the register. You're never supposed to ask the employees about penny items though because they are supposed to pull the items from the shelf and you are actually just getting lucky if you find anything they missed.

I plan on making a video that explains everything about penny shopping. One of the things people say is don't talk to employees about penny items. When it goes to a penny they are supposed to remove it from the sales floor and pack it up.

Unfortunately there are a lot of dollar generals like that. I've been to several where I decided that town was not worth returning too. 😬

I reported one Dollar General to the head office and they were nice and said they would check into it and about a week and half later the store was cleaned up you can try that if you want to return to that store

Penny items are things that Dollar General is getting rid of so employees are supposed to pull them off the shelf, if the employees miss the items they will ring up a penny. If you are new to penny shopping you might want to watch my how to penny shop video for more information.
