HOW TO FIND SHARK TEETH [Top 5 Tips] PROFESSIONAL ADVICE!!
#sharkteethhunting #megalodonshark #howtofindsharkteeth
If you're headed to a beach for vacation and want to find shark teeth, this is the video for you! Paleontologist Ashby Gale covers his TOP FIVE tips for how to find shark teeth on the beach. Plus, you'll never guess what else he finds! Watch until the end to find out!
Finding shark teeth on the beach is easy if you know a few basics. While collecting beach shark teeth isn't the same as megalodon shark tooth hunting, with a little skill, and a whole lot of luck, you may just stumble across the big one!
If you’d like to visit Charleston and find your own fossils from the Ice Age and beyond, please consider booking a tour with Charleston Fossil Adventures. Our trips are unlike any other in the state! We ensure a fun time, and provide accurate identification of every fossil you pick up - as a paleontologist, Ashby will teach you not only how to find the fossils, but identify them as well. Find out why we’re Charleston’s Choice for Adventure Activity and Best Tour Guide (2018, 2020)!
Please be sure to subscribe to our channel for more educational fossil content, and tips on how to collect fossils legally in the state of South Carolina.

Ty for posting this. I just started going to shark tooth island in swansboro, nc. I found a few 1" sand tiger teeth. Once you train your eye it's easy to spot them.

I wished I would have found this channel when I was on Amelia island last week. We went out to Ft.Clinch and I did find a nice tiger shark tooth but nothing else. I’m sure I saw other things I just didn’t recognize as fossils. It’s not easy but it is so much fun! Thanks you!!!

Hi JoAnn, thanks so much for watching AND subscribing! 🤩 🦈 Ft. Clinch is a great spot to collect fossils! The Florida photos in my field guide are from Ft. Clinch. Keep your eyes out on the beach for those symmetrical black objects; many will turn out to be some pretty incredible fossils!

I highly recommend everyone get your book A Beachcomber's Guide to Fossils, I received it as a gift from my son and without it I would be at a loss of knowing what the items I find are. I love being able to identify the different sharks teeth and other fossils. Because of my new found knowledge I'm adding items to be on the lookout for like the shark vertebrae and stingray teeth and ray tail spines.

Great tips Ashby 👍🏻 But I don't know when I will be at a beach to find shark teeth 😂 It would be a great adventure if I can find shark teeth at a beach some day! 4:23 You found some beautiful words but it's sad that you have to say that because there are so many people who doesn't care about it 🙄 We have to preserve our nature and have to act in a good way in fossils locations! 💪🏼

Hopefully you'll visit a beach with shark teeth some day!! Yes, it's unfortunate that we find trash on the shorelines where we collect fossils. We don't have much trash at the beaches we frequent; it's definitely worse elsewhere in the world, but we always pick up trash and broken glass on our tours!

Thanks for the vid. I am currently on vacation and I went out at night with my flashlight as the tide was going out and I found quite a few but today when I went out during the day, I tried multiple locations before through after low tide and quite honestly my finds were better the time I went out in the night. Are there some days that there just aren’t as many shark teeth on the beach? I went to the same spot. It was pretty discouraging today.
@CharlestonFossilAdventures
@CharlestonFossilAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kennith, thanks for commenting and also for your excellent observations! You’re absolutely correct: there are many times when the beach can change drastically between tide cycles. Sometimes the longshore current that runs along the beach encourages deposition of sand, while other times it increases erosion. Surface winds and frontal systems can also play a role. Not to mention variations in the depth of low tides! There are many times when you might observe a low tide of 0.1’ at 8 AM, and then a vastly different 0.5’ at 8 PM. But the key to decoding all of it is careful observation and becoming familiar with conditions at your specific beach. Happy hunting! 🦈

In the time it took to make this video you could have found close to 100 teeth in my back yard and nowhere near the beach. Great white, tiger, mako, all sorts and some over 3 inches and more. I used to fill shoe boxes in one summer.
