This video is all about how to find walleyes when fishing in the spring! In this video I talk about how to look at a map and find walleyes during the spring period. I use my Humminbird but you can use whatever gps you have or you can use a paper map if you choose. Spring walleye fishing is generally all about shallow water and it this video I talk about how to find the best shallow water structures and how I approach them once located. I also talk about the differences between fishing flow ages and fishing natural lakes. I get a ton of questions regarding, well pretty much everything. This is a question that has been asked a lot...How to I find walleyes in the spring if all I have is a map. I hope this video was helpful. Thanks for watching!

I'm primarily a Muskie guy (I'm better at buying lures than catching muskie) but your videos really help me with understanding the graphs. When I first started with them I had no clue what I was looking at. After watching a couple of your videos it was easier to connect the dots and actually see what I was looking at. I appreciate your help with that and just wanted to say thanks!

Thanks for another great video Tom, learn something new every time i watch. I have a question regarding the trajectory of your boat when side imaging a shallow water outcropping. Lets say you want to drive over and side image the submerged peninsula at 10:30. Assuming north up- would you side image over this south to north, or perpendicular to it- east to west, etc? Thanks!

Great video and greetings from Eastern Washington. Being a novice walleye hunter, I do see the spawn is probably over here too. It’s almost 60-65 degrees and fishing state wide has been stopped, by the State until further notice. The Wuhan Virus ya know. At any rate, I learned much from you even though I am old school so I fish by sight and not by electronics. Tight lines.

Tom I have recently discovered your videos. Absolutely love them. Been fishing for 50 years myself. Love how you are so concise and informational. People like us are not worried about the entertainment aspect other than to prove a point. If we want entertainment we can go watch the Linders and etc. that are so good at entertaining and making a show that rarely puts the whole picture together as completely as you do. Love your boat, I have the competitor 205 rigged completely. If you guide at all would love to fish with you, but if you do I'm sure your schedule would be too full to get in. Anyway, THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU DO!!!! GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!

Hey, love your stuff. Just purchased a new boat with Helix 7 with Navionics card. Remembered this video and came back to watch. Tried to set up depth highlights exactly like you do in the video but no coloring comes up on my map...I figured out "shallow water highlight" so can do 0 - whatever but can't add another highlight it seems. Any tips?

Tom, you are my "go to guy" for walleye fishing information. My home lake is Greers Ferry Lake in north central Arkansas. In addition to being home to bass, crappie, stripers, and hybrids, Greers Ferry is also a premier walleye fishery in Arkansas. My question is, since Greers Ferry is not a natural lake, when you are surveying your maps for walleye "spots", would you treat this reservoir as you would a flowage? I'm fairly new to walleye fishing, and I rely on the information in your videos to get me going in the right direction.

Tom I see you are running what appears to be 2 Helix 9's. I am currently upgrading my fishfinders. I have a 999 SI on the stern of my tiller boat. I am thinking of getting a new Helix 8 and mounting it next to the 999 and network them. One would be used for full screen SI and the other for just mapping. Or I could sell my 999 SI and get 1 Helix 12 SI mega and use it split screen SI/mapping. What would you recommend?
@broz0024
@broz0024 4 жыл бұрын
Mark Langeneker I had the same question. I went with two separate units. Don’t regret it. You will need to network them to maximize their interaction potential. You can network them with Ethernet or hub from humminbird.
@theobserver3021
@theobserver3021 4 жыл бұрын
@@broz0024 Thanks! I was wondering about the advantages and disadvantages of 1 alone vs 2 side by side. I can see if u had 2 if one broke down you would have a backup. The other is screen size. I would have a 2-8" screens vs a Helix 12 which has a 12" screen. I haven't seen a 12" screen in person so I'm not sure if you spit it's screen SI/mapping just how big the viewing area would be vs the 2 8" screens. I know you can change the sizes of the split screens on the 12". Another thing is their aspect ratio. The Helix 12 screen is taller vs wider.
@jimlarson8615
@jimlarson8615 4 жыл бұрын
Mark: you might want to check with Humminbird. They advised networking 2 Helix units with the same generation (GN2 or GN3). Older units like a 999 may not be compatible networking to a newer Helix.

I am always uncertain on my lake (metro lake twin cities) if spawn is even pertinent to a solid pattern come opener. Walleye are already done spawning on my lake, or most walleye anyway, and it's April 16th today. Are they really going to hang around spawning areas for basically another month? That is a lot of time for them to move I feel like.
