Welcome to Meghan Grace DIY! I have been sewing since I was 8 years old and have done lots of great things in the sewing world from making figure skating costumes to teaching high school fashion to freelance costume design to college fashion professor. In this video I am covering the basics of rhinestones or otherwise knows as flat back crystals. I explain the materials, the brands, the sizing and most importantly the cost. Swarovski is the best quality out there but also comes at the highest price. There are ways to find stones online that will be great for your project and you will pay 1 tenth of the price! Before we get started I think it is important to note that there are many different styles and techniques in the sewing world, so take with you what works and leave behind what doesn’t! Last Important Disclaimer - Amazon and other vendors change their prices often as you can see in the video when I purchased the Jollin stones they were 11.99 and the day I filmed they were 9.99. So the prices I quote were as of when I filmed which was May 14th, 2020 and may change by the time you view this video!

I really APPRECIATED this video because now I know the TYPES of CRYSTALS/GLASS rhinestones to USE, the ACTUAL SIZES of the CRYSTALS and GLASS, WAYS to DIFFERENTIATE the GOOD RHINESTONES from the BAD, the TOP TWO name BRANDS to USE and most importantly the PRICING of the RHINESTONES that would get me MORE BLING for MY BUCK. I needed this video SO badly, I'm trying to fix up a ballroom dress costume, and I wasn't sure if I should go with sequins or rhinestones. SO THANK YOUUU omg, I know you said that crystal is better for ballroom, but Idk if I'm ready to spend 100$ on them, especially since I'm just starting out. As a jewelry person, a beader, I got so confused when you were talking about AB b/c Swarovski AB is on the one side of a crystal bead but also, besides that, it’s more transparently sparkly. When I order AB2X, those are the ones that can completely change the color like the Jet that you showed. (Also, not that it matters, but cupchain, square or round, is in ss as well). But I have no idea if they call it, one sided, the same as what they coat to make AB2X. I would say, if they are regular AB, if you stick to the color “crystal” that they’ll sparkle through. I wish we were able to put pics in the comments so i could show you JetAB as a bead. Anyways, thanks - 3 years on - for the info. It’s helpful and I’m happy to dip my toes in these types of crystals. The only ones Ive used before were Dream Creations

NEW SUBSCRIBER!! Ive been using crystals for years both Swarovski and Czechoslovakian for different crafts projects. I always bought in person at a local craft store which can be pricey since it is a smaller local shop. Looking to buy more in bulk and where to buy online for cheaper and also researching glass and resin i came across ur video. Amazing and informative thank you!
