Merry Christmas from Down Under! My wife and I spent a long and leisurely Christmas lunch at our favorite Northern Italian inspired restaurant in my hometown. We always order their finest prosecco to start the first few courses. It is no folly, that I have found your channel and have totally geeked out on all the new facts about our favorite Italian style. I will be pressing my local wine providores to stock the more interesting varieties. During our Christmas lunch this year, our surprise pairing was rose petal risotto. My wife said that it is princess food, so guess what I will be making in 2023. Have a safe holiday and don't stop paying it forward by sharing your knowledge! Salute!

I like your style describing this wine region. I would like to add an additional quality aspect to Prosecco. Thats the "Spumante". It contains even more natural CO2 and plays definitely in the league of Champaign in regard of mousse.

Yes! Metodo Classico versions. I've heard they also use Chardonnay too. Have you tried one with Glera?
@Rolerus
@Rolerus Жыл бұрын
@@Winefolly Chardonnay only up to 15%. The main grape is always Glera. Actually I dont know if I had containing also Chardonnay. I plan a trip to the prosecco area next and can than probably tell more. Additionally, the Spumante can be done via Charmat or the Metodo classico. The dfference to a Prosecco Frizante is the higher pressure in the bottle. The higher content of CO2. Usually also easily to spot because the bottles for Spumante are made like Champaign bottles to resist the high pressure.

Wow, you really know your stuff. I'd be interested to hear your views on the difference between Prosecco and Cava...I have always leaned towards Cava as I feel its method of production is closer to that of Champagne. I know there's good and bad of both but can't help thinking that the Cava Marketing Board could be doing a much better job as it seems to be lagging far behind Champagne and Prosecco, and in my opinion, unjustly so.

@@Winefolly It was emphasized during Wset 3 that any category above Valdobiaddene is not necessarily related to better quality. Prosecco didn't just nudge Champaign of the spot but Cava too which used to sell more than Champaign. In supermarkets in the U.K. Cava, which always had a trashy reputation, has been removed and replaced by trash Prosecco. There's good Prosecco and even better Cava. The general trend for Prosecco, however, is cheap and cloyingly sweet stuff. Unfortunately that's how most people purchase it in supermarkets.

Oh ho! Facts. This is the way it used to be. In 2009, the grape's name was changed from Prosecco to Glera (Glera is an old name) in order to create a unique regional DOC which couldn't be copied elsewhere in the world. But, to your point! You can still find Prosecco wines from Australia named after that one grape. Other interesting fact: There are other grapes allowed in Prosecco! It's not just Glera.
