I took months to look for the perfect desk and never found something that suit to me. So I ended building my own. I had no skills at all, so I can now say that it's easier than you might think :)

Man I’ve been going through pretty much the same exact things. Similar need for lots of “desktop” items. I started with an adjustable height desk like you showed. Never used it either haha. Now am using work benches at slightly higher than normal desk height because I’m also 6’4”, or just under 2m. They work ok but I’ve been looking for so long for the right upgrade in desk. But it’s so hard to know if it’ll work for someone with long ass legs, someone who prefers a higher seating position, and still have it be high enough to not hurt my back when standing. Seems like you found the right solution for guys like us. Thanks man.

I really like the Ikea crank handle standing desk that I got. If you don't need quick sit/stand adjustment but want something you can set to the perfect height for your needs without spending a ton of money then it's a great option IMO.

I have a raising desk, because its actually my workspace for other Things too. I found the raising function particularly useful when recording other people. I dont have to geht extra chairs, the Energy stays high and for inbetween listening the Monitors are at a better height for everyone to hear Well. Have a great day!

I got a Wave Nature Studio Desk made in Germany, as it has 2x 10U + 2x 2U rackspace on top and 2x 12U below (that I use for loads of drawers for the myriads of cables I have), it has an awful lot of real estate into a 2.10 x 0.96m desk. It did take 5 months to deliver though and was quite pricey for skmething made out of plywood (still less expensive than others).

Hej, thx for sharing this. Experienced the same for my way of working in the studio. ergonomics, workflow, style and cable management were my topics. Don´t know why it is like this (for me); I am working from left to right. Seq. Programming and synths to the left and pedals, modules Fx. then the further you go towards the right hand side it´s the mixer and finally the recording part. My solution is an L and I can reach everything from my sitting position. Reaching all cables from the back end side is as well important and fastens up your workflow. Nobody wants to move gear from a to b, while being in a creative momentum. I always leave some extra space for a book, an A4 for notes and some space for drinks and parking a headphone.

I've decided against the Output desk as the 19" rack mounts would have been better at an angle - both visually and practically, as the controls on the lowest rack 19" unit is going to be difficult to manipulate.

For a standing desk, would pick an IKEA IDÅSEN. Most standing desks wobble from front to back. But this one is very stable because of the feet design.

@@sixstab2967 The table is not made of solid wood. That's not to be expected for the price either. A wood veneer is attached to the outside. The veneer came off in some places after a short time. The beveled edge at the front and the cross piece at the bottom were the most affected.

@@AnnesYarak thank you for your response! As its a huge purchase for me im sad to hear that. But at this point im having trouble finding another desk/setup that allows me to store and use a 88key midi keyboad. The slidable trays simply are not that strong or the desk is ergonomicly not well. The "diy" route is a option but in the end is still quite expensive. Thank you for commenting btw
@AnnesYarak
@AnnesYarak Жыл бұрын
@@sixstab2967 Even if the veneer comes off, the table was of course still fully functional. I would describe the price-performance ratio as good. I also had a large midi keyboard plus other stuff and had no problem with the sliding trays. I saw that there are now many new models with different edges on the front and some without an intermediate part on the bottom.

@@OoraMusic while on the subject, can you also talk about the Tascam DB25 cable multitrack feature? If you use that
@Orge77
@Orge77 Жыл бұрын
I use the DB25 connectors in my setup to run some additional I/O directly to/from my soundcard. I also have most of the inputs and outputs of the model 1 exposed on my patch bay so that I can easily reconfigure how it’s used in my setup. Additionally, I split the inputs to all channels on the model 1 directly to the soundcard so that I can always record the incoming signals. Finally, this also allows me to do some cool stuff with the switchable db25 I/O: 1. I can run plug-ins on my soundcard (or DAW) and apply them to the incoming audio to the model 1. These can be switched in and out just by hitting the db25 selector per channel. 2. I can use my soundcard (or DAW) to generate a submix and then send that to a channel of the model 1. Whilst this isn’t as flexible as a full on mixing desk it does give me some flexibility beyond the 6 channels of the model 1. 3. Model 1 is always directly accessible from my DAW.
@dubodhi
@dubodhi Жыл бұрын
@@Orge77 Badass. Seems the key is having DB25 built in to your interface. I've been running an Apollo Twin for years (in the box production mostly) and think I'm gonna jump ship to a more flexible system sooner than later. Using the Model 1 as you're describing is exactly what I've imagined. It seems like the perfect modern, high quality small format (dub) mixing desk. A way to stem out productions, perform, sculpt and sum them back together using pristine but colourful analog circuitry.
@Orge77
@Orge77 Жыл бұрын
@@dubodhi Yeah, whilst I’ve no direct experience with comparably priced/specified mixers from the likes of SSL etc. I presume that it holds its own given that Hawtin and the designers do have a reference on quality summing and channel strips. My sound card is the Orion 32+, which has tons of channels but only just about has enough to support the model 1 and additional I/O! Negative of this setup is quite a lot of cables. I even got some multicore looms made up for both my patch bays and the model 1.
