That avocado colored thing is a cat caller. As soon as you turn it on the cat shows up in the kitchen.

Too funny. My friend used to do that to his cat with that exact can opener. Same color and everything. So funny for you to mention it since I was thinking about his can opener when she was showing it.

My grandma made herself one of those “jewel” purses and carried it for years, it came in a kit with instructions and the jewels were glued on a printed picture on the purse one at a time. I wish I had that purse, I thought it was lovely because I still like shiny things. Thank you so much Dr. Lori from bringing back that wonderful memory of my beloved Mamaw, we were very close when I was growing up, she lived on the same block as me, I was blessed to have her around and I loved to spend the night with her on weekends.

I have a wonderful steel fan that probably came out of a government office from the '30s. I found it on the street, and it worked immediately when I plugged it in. It's also like standing in front of an airplane propeller when it's on. I love it! My partner rewired it for me when a capacitor blew out, and it's so solid and built much better than anything made now.

Thanks for the information you provide! It's a great help to know upfront what to look out for. I've always loved vintage items and antiques for some reason. It seems so ironic that most products made in decades/centuries past were so much better crafted with higher quality materials and workmanship, when there was less technology and precision machinery, yet today we have those tools and can even send people into outer space, yet you can't buy a toaster that will last more than a year before breaking!!! 🤔

And once again, there's the "Bank give away" porcelain dinner set. That's the one I chose. I loved the button picture, especially since there were three pair of Lucite earrings on it. Unfortunately 90% of the thrift stores around here hire folks to rummage through the donations for anything of value to sell on line for the company. They never make it to the floor ! Goodwill is one of these.

I painted my kitchen green 10 yrs ago or so. It’s more like a very light green/celery green. I thought I would never do any shade of green after the 70s and 80s. My friend called to ask why did I do that!! (He heard about it but didn’t see it yet). We always joked around about Harvest Gold, Avocado Green, and the Brady Bunch kitchen. If you lived it, you can spot the exact colors a mile away.

@@DrLoriV i’ve been wanting to become a member but funds have been a little tight just as it has been with everyone else I’m sure. It’s at the top of my to do list though because sometimes I have questions about things that I have found that have been really hard to research online myself and I don’t know how many times I’ve said to myself “Well Crud , i know Dr. Lori would know!” 😁 So for now I have just binge on a lot of your videos so I can learn as much as I can lol.

Actually that doesn’t sound too bad lol. A lot of the time I binge watch your videos while I am trying to organize my bulk jewelry or search through my coin rolls 😂

'70a colors were avocado green, harvest gold, and burnt orange. Copper tone was more from the '60s. We had it on our cook top and wall oven in a house built in 1963. Interesting that she says muted colors reflect a recession. We must be in the worst one yet based on the non-colors we see everywhere now. All grey, black, white and other dull muddy colors.

Coppertone was popular in the 1970s too. I report this information about design to help viewers understand and identify the trends and how colors reflect society. Current monochromatic colors are not muted colors. Thanks for watching.

@@DrLoriV Thank you. I didn't remember so much coppertone in the '70s as I did the other colors. Fun video. The colors today, to me, are drab and depressing. I'll be glad when that trend goes away.

The thrift store I volunteer in sold a Trifari 3 pc. set loaded with rhinestones for $20. Sigh. Resellers keep us going, though, I have to say sometimes it hurts.

Rats! I had a cheese server listed on ebay forever. It was pink, European, and very pretty. I didn't know to use the word "server" though. Had to put it on deep sale and I hope it went to a good home. I moved to a rich area and thrift store prices are crazy high now.

Does clip-on costume jewelry have value I'm afraid to buy it because people don't use clip-ons what do you think???
@DrLoriV
@DrLoriV 3 жыл бұрын
Of course it has value. Value will depend on the piece. Everyone wants a one answer fits all for many questions about value and things just don't work that way. It's like asking is my car valuable? It will depend on many factors :) Does that help?

I collect 1950s jewelry, in particular Red and Green for the holidays. The first time I came across one of the jewelry pictures I was appalled. Apparently it’s a “thing” in rural parts of the USA. I’m still appalled but less so I guess when you consider the number of red and green pieces of Jewelry and Xmas pins I own that I assume are going up in value just based on availability shrinking.

Why do you think availability is shrinking?

@@kerrydonk8272 Ok, but you have to consider a larger market. I'm not saying that you aren't looking hard because I'm sure you are, but these pieces may exist somewhere else in a different part of country or world. Maybe somewhere else were people just don't like red and green for some reason (the revival sports team wears the colors?) :) I just want everyone to be careful when making these types of statements.

I have a Kit Pleasant Company doll. She is in really good condition and I also have a few original outfits and the original bed. I don’t know if she’s worth anything and I don’t want to sell her for less than she’s actually worth. And I can’t afford an appraisal. I’d love to know what you think
@DrLoriV

Have you even checked my Specials page to see how much an appraisal costs? I can help you but need to see the doll to verify what you really have. Plus the factors that determine value.
