Ideas vary on how to fish for and catch open water schooling bass, especially spotted bass. One might ask if there is any rhyme or reason to when and where these bass show up. Or is it as random as we think on clear water lakes.
Elite Series Pro Casey Ashley has spent a lot of time out in open water targeting and catching spotted bass and proves that you can actually predict where these fish will school and more importantly bite your lures. Ashley has grown accustomed to fishing lakes that have blueback herring in them where bass are often very nomadic, roaming all over the lake on bait.
When finding these fish, a good pair of polarized sunglasses can be your best weapon as bass can be seen herding bait balls under the surface. Ashley admits these bass are not the easiest to catch, but if there is some sort of cover that they relate to nearby, you can often predict where the strikes will come from.

Casey really is an expert when it comes to bass that suspend and roam on baitfish. One of the best in tournament fishing at the specific application.

I learned that I need a fast retrieved & the right lure choice. Also when to slow the retrieve & stay in 8'-10' foot range & stay over top of fish. Very informative video!

I caught 9 bass today in about 2 hours fishing open water schools in 40ft of water. I only threw at fish that were busting. Caught 3 on a jerk bait and 6 on a popper. Talk about fun!!

Conditions change daily. What works for him probably won’t work exactly for you.. I used this method and I’ve actually used it for a while and never get skunked. I work a bullet pop 80 followed and a jerk bait or fluke. But in general around the world depending on day this is perfect advice.

I'm not talking about whether or not that works in that situation. I'm saying I've never been in that situation. I've never seen a big school or multiple fish breaking the surface in the same area. I get excited if I see 5 or more fish on the screen and I'll occasionally see a random fish breaking the surface, but not very often.

@@robertgill8833 I'm 42 and caught my first fish when I was 7... I can catch fish on top water and on flukes. I've just never seen a giant school with multiple fish breaking the surface like that.
