Been fishing hair jigs on Ouachita and Degray for 45 years. I use 6 or 8 lb test on a spinning rod in 20 to 60 feet of water off points. Always amazed at how much the line jumps when they get it.

Just tied up a bunch of the these. The tails from younger deer don’t have hair that long! Fortunately I have quite a few tails. Can’t wait to try these! Good info thanks!!

I love catching the 12-14” eaters. They don’t always have to be big ones. Another great video, Thanks Professor Jonny. I look forward to more electronics lessons. If you cannot see them on your graph, you don’t have much confidence. Thats me.

do you live by the ocean? there are always places to fish! even small rivers and creeks.. just get really small hooks and real worm.. who cares how big or what species.. just get out and have some fun exploring and trying to catch fish get some family and friends to go with you then its better.. the ocean is the best place to fish though.. freshwater is fun though but with ocean you never know what you will catch or how big! gl out there.

I love your videos! I have been watching you for years. You're a great teacher man. I fish for freshwater stripers mainly. They love hair jigs but I didn't know how until now. I know they have stripers in Arkansas. Have you ever fishing any of those lakes?

Reeling fast = a more horizontal presentation. Lifting the rod raises the bait. Think about it.

No one ever talk about barotrauma. Fish deeper than 25 feet tends to die if you're catching and releasing. At about 30 feet, atmospheric pressure is doubled. Many states recommends keeping fish if you target deep water fish and only catch and release in the shallow water.

Johnny, thanks for all the great content! Why do you reel the jig to move it through the suspended fish, why not use the rod to hop the jig?

Hey Jonny, could you do a video on feeling the bite. You can't see it in a video and nobody says what they're feeling for when they let the line go limp as the jig sinks back to the bottom. This is where I tend to lose my confidence

Yes it matters......you are trying to get a reaction strike .....just crank the handle 5 times fast and stop and you will feel a tick when they hit it on the fall.

that's a big hair jig.. ive never tried em that big.. from shore.. I have done a float and fly.. where I use super tiny jig like that under a bobber and got a hog near a ledge and two stripers and one smallie that day.. the trifecta. i think i might have to upsize it to one of those jigs and get a bobber that hold that thing up and try one of those from shore.

@landonmoore76
@landonmoore76 5 жыл бұрын
Yes they will If they're released they go right back down. They only need to be fizzed if you put them in the livewell
@mattseifert
@mattseifert 5 жыл бұрын
NC Bassin that’s untrue. They need to be fizzed any time their bladders expand. If not they can’t regain depth and will possibly die.
@landonmoore76
@landonmoore76 5 жыл бұрын
@@mattseifert depends on fast you pull them up and how fast you get them in the water. I think he knows what he's doing he's a deep water expert

NC Bassin I didn’t question what he’s doing. As you can see, none of them had their bladders expand. In my response I said they need to be fizzed anytime that the bladder expands.
