Before using, fresh roe is often cured first to extend the life and make it much easier to fish. Roe is cut into small pieces before being tied onto the hook. Amount of eggs depends on the species your targeting with the roe. For salmon steelhead, and trout fishing in rivers, roe or fishing eggs from chinook, coho, steelhead and chum is usually used. Super awesome man 🤙 today was my first day trying to drift or float from the bank and I was a mess! The Skykomish was running faster than I was set up for, I was making it over complicated, and I shouldn’t have even bothered with the float and just done drift. I'd love to hear an in depth discussion on cures. There's a lot of stuff to choose on the market, but I always see guys concaucting their own recipes or combine pre made with their own. Also what type of eggs to cure when fishing for steelhead vs Chinook vs coho (if there is a difference?)

Another tip I use when drifting, leave a tag end off the back of your egg loop and peg a bead or core on to it. Not seen alot and has been effective for a long time for me. Great ep. giys. Keep up the great work.

Nice vid dude thanks again for the info. When i drift I use a lead ball under the swivel with a pretied stop knot so it doesnt slide down. It rolls down the river bottom nicely with a good feel. My buddy swears on using a 4 or 5' leader line but i like your shorter approach.

I don't fish for steelhead often, but I drift for catfish and I usually start the opposite, I start deeper and work my way up shallower, which is quite helpful because most of the cats I find will be anywhere between 3-10ft deep, a slip float and a 13ft centerpin combo work wonders for this

Awesome job. Very to the point, informative and all the main points. Perhaps a close up on how exactly you fastened the eggs to the hook. I saw the loop and the hook and eggs but not sure if you made the loop just around the eggs of also around the hook again. Thanks

Nice video, this is the first video I have seen that use the same set up I have used for year's ( I'm 70) only I use @ 2" of 3/16 tubing on my snap swivel it's easier to change the length of the pencil lead and in case of a hang up the tubing and weight are lost not your rigging. I only use 8 lb green color line 6&8 size hooks year round. I'm on the Trinty River Hoopa CA.

You can run your line through wax and it will float very nicely so mending a bobber drift is just a flick of your tip.

Hi y'all, I'e been wondering for quite some time what your ideal hook is for Coho jigs, i tie jigs and i can only find jigheads with Mustad 32833 2x Strength Aberdeen Hook or similar. Any ideas if those will withstand Coho or Chinook? Thanks.

Love this video. I go down to cotter arkansas alot and have been wanting to try to catch some rainbows on the drift with a "steelhead rig". Also, I have never fished for steelhead I am from kansas. I have opportunities to go to milwaukee wi frequently. Have been wanting to hit the milwaukee river this year from foot trails. I'm curious if the fish will have moved into the river by thanksgiving, also if you have any suggestions on where to go in milwaukee? All I want is to catch 1 fish. Thanks

To make life a bit easier and cleaner for you on the river use roe bags. They aren't often mentioned on this channel I guess they aren't as popular in the states? But they are definitely nice to have tied up instead of handling those messy globs of skein and they stay on the hook awhile longer. Tight lines!

I will drift my worm from time to time, until I find a sweet little cranny, then I'll take my worm and , first plunge and then lift, occasionally rotating. I'll continue to do this, repeating the maneuvers, you know , sometimes switching it up ... maybe do a half plunge, maybe a few half, or so, plunges .. . into a slow rotating lift. It works good .

wish the old farts at the local hatchery wouldn't use 50lb mono to drift fish either... its like punishment for being a good fisherman when you have your presentation right along the bottom perfect and you feel it stop or a tug. oh wait its a mess of braid or 50 lb mono...
