Very informative video. Good to see garage design has advanced, no need for large weights hanging off either side of the door. I'm in the process of building a garage, think I will go for an already framed garage door, as it will be easier to install and the legs of the frame are made from metal so the feet won't rot.

A very helpful video - thank you - helped enormously in fixing my garage door. Just a constructive comment - you brushed over many small things that are blatantly obvious to you... but for the less experienced it would have been helpful to video the minor detail... i.e. close ups of component parts... not taking away anything from you efforts so again thank you for taking the time and effort to make this helpful video. May your garage doors always open smoothly.

Hi David, thank you for your very good video on up and over doors. Can I ask, do you know why having put the tension on the spring, why the cones don’t turn and opening the door the wires are slack . You can turn the bar manually with a spanner. Myself and my Dad just can’t work it out. Any advice would be welcome . Kind regards Angie

As a garage door fitter myself I was cringing when you leant that wood up against the door, ya may scratch it 😉 I love installing canopy doors though, nice and easy. Behind the reveal Six brackets and bolts, jobs a good un 👌 Sectional doors are a pain though.

Hi David, your videos are extremely helpful, thank you for taking the time. I need to replace the cones & cables on my door, the left hand cone is hard up against the wall - would I need to remove the whole door & spring in order to get this cone off? If so, do I need to remove all the tension from the spring first, or can the assembly be removed providing the crook is in place? Alternatively, is it possible to slide the bar to the right by a couple of inches in order to fit the new cone? Thanks again - Dave in Macclesfield :)
@dmgladden6 жыл бұрын
The7576Dave hi thank you for the kind comments. yes i think the only way is to remove ths spring bar from the head frame if you can the door could just stay closed

Hi David - my nan’s had a new garage roof fitted and we think the guy who did the roof has refitted the garage door in the process because since then, the door is hitting / scraping the frame on the top corner on one side. To adjust do I need to refit one of the top brackets to push the door towards the other side where there is more clearance? Thanks for making these useful videos.

Hi David I've just fitted a second hand wickes garage door like the one in the video. My problem is that when I lift it up the 2 cables down the side go slack and the 2 cones at the top don't turn and wind the wire up(although they turn when I put a spanner on them.)Would you say it just needs tensioning
@dmgladden7 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew yes thats a clear sign of a tensioning issue it happens often with second hand doors as long as its both sides the same
@dmgladden7 жыл бұрын
i have also made a video on tensioning this door it might help
@TheOne-dc8bo7 жыл бұрын
Very good video David and will help a lot of people thanks! my problem is one side is lower than the other and trying to close is is very hard! the other day I went to shut the garage and there was a bit of wood in the way on the inside and the door hit it, since then it's crooked and really hard to close and the cable on the left is slack when trying to close the door but the right hand side is tight, can you help with this please
@dmgladden7 жыл бұрын
Steve Bridgewater hi and thank you for your kind comments. I have also had this problem and what has happened is on the side that is the lowest the tensioning wire has jumped of a turn, to rectify it use a peace of wood to push up and support the slide pin on that side as high as you can and then wind the wire one turn on the spool then try it repeat if Ness. please let me know how you get on
@TheOne-dc8bo7 жыл бұрын
Thanks David, yes this sounds logical and I really want to do this job as I have contacted a company to come and do it but after seeing you great video I'm gonna do it myself (hopefully lol) and cancel the guy! so the heat is on whether I can do this before he rings to come round hehe Yes I will definitely let you know how I get on...and thank you your video is the clearest explanation of these jobs I have seen! Kind Regards Steve

Hi Dave, watched this video as you suggested, can you just clarify that the spring is locked off on just one side, the side with the locking point with the two Allen key screws. Or is it necessary to use the ‘U’ bolt to lock off the opposite side? Thanks, Rob
@dmgladden11 ай бұрын
Hi well I must first cover my self by saying I'm no expert but when I did mine and yes it was locked from just the one side so I would say go for it but be ready for it to be wrong, I've never known such springs to have individual tentioning so it should work .David

Hi David, My garage door frame has rotted at the bottom. I plan to take the existing garage door off, fit a new frame then re-fit the garage door. One question - Do i have to do something to 'hold the tension' in the spring before I remove the existing garage door ?
@dmgladden5 жыл бұрын
Yes as you will need to remove the cables from the sides so lock the tension with a pin in the slot and the you can remove the cables. After re fitting just remove the pin and all will be back as it should be

@conorl83405 жыл бұрын
I've got the same make door as you and the problem I've got it the spring has lost its tension and the cables are slack. When I lift the cone to put the pin in, the cone slips so I can't put in the pin to tension the spring
@dmgladden5 жыл бұрын
Hate to say but sometime there comes a point at which the only way to go is to replace. maybe just the cone or the full door

Hi David unfortunately before watched the ur video my garage door cable one of them came off and I did take another one my self now question is how can I put them both back I have too open the door putting the cable back or I have to close the door then put the cable back thanks if u replaying
@dmgladden6 жыл бұрын
amir azad if you still have the tension then it's not that hard you need to carefully wind the cables around the cones until there is just enough left to connect to the door then when all is safe release the tension and it should be ok you might need To re set the tension abit or not. Good luck

My door is wonky from the house builder. I need to take it off and remount it. Is there anything I need to look out for? I know the risky part is messing with the spring. Is the door openable if I untension the spring completely?
@dmgladden2 жыл бұрын
No just put the pins in to keep the tension when you remove the screws
@fungames242 жыл бұрын
@@dmgladden Thanks for a quick answer. The trouble is I think I need to unmount the door completely so that I could fill the existing screw holes with dowels. It seems dangerous to unmount while the spring is still tensioned.

@dmgladden3 жыл бұрын
First I would say it's not going to be easy, Do you remember how many locking points you have ? I have three some only have one, they are springs on them and you will need to get to each one some how and click it open if like me you have three you need do all three before it will open, but remember it's designed not to be easy for security. Good luck and let me know how you do please, David

Hi David, Sorry for the late reply, today I finally got round to looking at the garage door, I decided in the end to take the floor up in the room above and get in to the garage so I could have a proper look without damaging the door, it turns out the two arms either side of the door that allow it to lift up had come off. I popped them back on and the door works fine now, 👍 thanks again for your help 👍 🙂
