The rack can't be fitted to cars with spoilers or any other modifications, split tailgates or with lightweight composite body panels. Before you start fitting your rack, check that it won't obscure your lights or number plate. If it does, you'll need a lighting board to be legal.
The rack maybe positioned to rest against your rear windscreen which means you won't be able to use your rear wipers while it's attached. Some rear wipers automatically operate when reverse gear is selected, and this function should be disabled before using the rack
To build the cycle rack, you'll need two 10mm spanners, sockets or adjustable wrenches. Please ensure you follow the instructions included with the product. Once you've built the rack, it's time to fit it.
Start by opening the boot, from inside your vehicle thread the straps over the top edge of your boot leaving the dumbbells hanging free. Carefully close the boot and gently pull the straps until the dumbbells sit firmly against the interior trim of your boot.
Next, adjust the rack. Ensure that the support arms are in a position a little above the horizontal position, and then lock them into place. Check that the teeth on the ratchet adjusters have all engaged and then apply some pressure to the handles to make sure they are locked into place.
Now we need to check the position of the arms is correct. Take the bike rack to the car and put it in place.
The upper arms should sit in the top or bottom 1/3 of the window, with the lower arm pressing against the bottom of the boot. Check there's around 8cm (3 inches) of clearance from the boot door. If you need to make any minor adjustments, put the rack on the floor and check it fits again.
Once the rack is extended, pass the two top straps through the buckles, making sure the straps are fed through in the right direction, as shown in the instruction manual.
Check the rack is in the right place against your tailgate. The top straps should be around 45cm apart. Make sure that the foam pads are positioned correctly and that the bike rack tubes do not touch the car bodywork.
Next, it's time to fit the lower straps. Make sure you thread the straps in the correct direction. You can attach the straps to the bottom of the tailgate by sliding them gently into place or fix them to the side beams on the chassis of your car. You mustn't fix it to anything made of plastic like your bumper.
It's time to tighten the straps. Tighten them evenly to ensure that the rack remains in place and straight. Check that all four straps are as tight as possible and then check the rack won't move or wobble.
Once the rack is secure on the back of your car, fit the red bike securing straps by threading the ends through the loops of the straps. This strap is very important as it secures your bikes to the rack. Please see the instructions for full details
Now, your bike rack is ready to load up and hit the road for some adventure.
Begin by placing a bike onto the holders furthest away from you. Place the crank so it faces the boot and fasten the two top straps. Next, place the second bike facing in the opposite direction and fit the straps.
Secure both bikes by threading the supplied through the wheels and tightening it. Ensure all bikes are safely and securely on the rack. Step through bikes or full suspension bikes without a cross bar will need a false cross bar before they can be safely fitted to the rack.
At this stage, you’re now ready to hit the road! Before you set off on any journey, ensure that the rack is stable and secure.
