This is a how to video on replacing a water pump seal on a very early 1948 TEA20 water pump. I go step by step so you can follow along.
Some TED20, TEF20 etc may be the same with the early pump.

I can mention that the little part you identified as a piece of the water-pump seal, is in fact a seal-ring that sits there on the shaft, just by the drainage slit. I'm talking about the half round thing you had laying on the bench. It had broken in two. Originally it is a ring, with a flat inside and a pointed outside. To throw off any water travelling down the shaft. I've done this job a couple of times on my Fe 35 from 1957. It has the very same waterpump. The circlip inside there is a mystery every time. It does not show on the image in the MF 35 service manual. You can't get to it on dismantling, so I suppose you just have to force it through. But the manual is doing it the other way. They remove the impeller from the shaft, and take things out that way. Personally I believe it is best to leave the impeller on the shaft, and do it the way you did. If you like to you can have a look in the slot to check if the circlip is still in the groove or if it was pushed too far. By the way, the manual do have a distance piece between the front hub and the bearing. And I do believe I have on mine as well. So it should be there.

G Day Slorrifjart321, I did some looking at old parts books etc today and the water slinger in them seems like a bellows. I have a gold 35 petrol and the old pump doesnt have it so it may have been lost . The circlip is still in place on this one and the spacer isnt on any of the three here but I think I will make one. On the more modern pumps the impeller is always pulled off to get at the seal especially with the modern type bearing where the seal in located in the housing not the impeller. They updated the pumps 3 times just in the TE20 tractors and I suppose continued to do so in the 35. I checked out the new pumps at work today and none have the front spacer but if they have the modern type bearing I could possibly see why. I find this all interesting as there are a few different options on the one machine. Mine has a stainless steel shaft to and Im not sure it would have been standard either. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Should be ok. Lift pump has stripped thread in the top bolt. I've put in a longer bolt, caught about 4 threads with a few fibre washers. It's a bit spongy but should be ok.....other than that pretty confident. Malc has a pump body for me but didn't want to change it just in case of issues. Do it when I get back. Day ploughing all went ok and running for a few hours, plus my short trip earlier in the week.

Lovely! This will save my day, I hope. Just got my leaking water pump off of the tractor (TEA20 -54) yesterday and could not figure out where to put the new seal, but now I do. It's the same pump but the old seal is not the same, but the new one is. Thanks a million! And by the way I actually use the tractor every week (at least) for the whole summer - I've got an orgiginal Horndraulic front bucket and a modern, slightly over sized chineze back hoe (LW-7). This is good life :)

@@BundyBearsShed Correct, I have one pump with a large port to the bearings and two pumps with a small port to the bearings. Your pump has a small opening to the bearings. Problem, I can't see exactly which spare parts I should take for the restoration and who is the dealer. Nevertheless, your videos help exelent. But you are also very well equipped in your workshop. Now Australia, everything is a little bigger. Think the hedgehogs are also bigger with you, about 1m :-)))

I believe that's almost the same pump that's on my tR2, 3 and TR4. Engine is wet liner and based (I hear) on the Ferguson TRactor motor. The TR pump has a woodruff key on the shaft vs flat for the cotter.

As always Lance no fudging issues with your videos, which is good. Having watched your video on water seal replacement, am doing the same on 1950 TED20. The Sparex 40075 seal which I've bought looks similar but does not have the inner cylindrical rubber seal with shoulder both ends which you removed nor the ceramic washer. The mating surface is a steel pressing (approx 22Gauge) which does not look serviceable to me. Please advise. Colin from Bishops Stortford, England.

Well I suppose I could rip out and buy one, most I have seen in our area are heaps of crap. I will be doing steering box etc which are the same. This water pump is the same as the TEF as well but I am looking for a more modern TE20 pump to do a video on as there are 3 different types so I may as well work through them. I also have the PTO seal and bearing etc on the way. I am open to suggestions though. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I've got a few things to do, just can't decide whether to go full blown, or just the necessities. Pto seal, water pump, injectors. Probably renew core plugs as a couple popped slightly, head and block, but tapped back in and have sealed so far.

Hi fron France Bundybear! One question, if you have the circlip, how do you press out the axle? Because of course it is preventing the axle to get out and you can't access the circlip with the bearings in the way.... Nice videos I am learning so much! Thank you!

Good-ay Mr Bear great information thank you... I am about to repair a water pump on my Triumph Spitfire car. The motor is based on the 50's Standard engine. The original wp has the same carbon seal as your Furgy and the new replacement I have been supplied with is the same as you have demonstrated fitting. I had been scratching my head a bit so thanks for the vid I am now confident that it will fit up ok. Just one question...... did I miss something or did you? You removed the inner rubber shaft seal early in the vid, is that it after assembly, still sitting on the bench next to the calipers at 47 min. ? I enjoy your wit and approach to educating your viewers. Cheers from Tassie

@BundyBearsShed 7 жыл бұрын
G day Bruce, No the bit on the bench was a bit of broken slinger that was fitted originally but I can no longer buy and I dont think is really necessary. There are many bolt on pumps available out there here is one on our web store. www.queenslandtractorspares.com.au/Store/tabid/91/ProdID/3648/Default.aspx I cant even seem to buy a complete kit now a days A point of interest is that Allan Bare from Bareco has a Triumph sports car and a lot of the tractor engine parts fit straight in and for the vintage racing with his car he developed the electronic distributor for them. I run one of his distributors on my grey and gold tractor and it has been great.

Thanks for the information. I do have a couple of new replacement pumps if needed but like you I would prefer to use the original one if salvageable. Besides the new pumps are heavy and not as nicely cast. I will keep you and Allan in mind in case I strike other items with similarity. Cheers.
