i have recently gotten into cycling and was not fitted to my scott cr1 by the shop. so i have to master my fit on my own. after scouring the internet, i came across this video. it fully explains the (in plain english) how to be fitted to a road bike. and, the guy with the video camera actually points the camera at what you are talking about. sweet video, thanks for the help. i feel comfortable on my bike already.

Thanks, just what I was looking for.

Yes, quite easily in fact. I'm 5'10" and weigh 300 pounds, and I prefer a road bike over a mountain bike. My road bike has an aluminum frame and aluminum 700x23c wheels, and it holds up to me pretty well.

Excellent advice! I'm going to keep this on my 'Watch Later' list, so when I get my road bike, I'll have the perfect reference video to make the fit just right! The *only* problem I can forsee, is that they only showed up to 6'1", and I'm 6'2". Oh well, I'll figure it out.

I had a pro bike fit recently and this is spot on. I only needed a few minor adjustments to saddle position, cleats and stem position but the difference it has made to my comfort, and my overall performance in only a few short weeks is remarkable.I'm definitely getting more forward prepulsion, with seemingly less effort from my new set up. So for anyone considering a bike fit i say go for it.

I was always taught that to determine stem lenghth that your hands were supossed to be in the drops when looking down to see where the bar is in relation to the hub. It seems to work better for me to do it this way. You can do it either way depending on how low and stretched out you like to be.

Nice video; thank you. People should remember to make very small & separate changes. If you change both your saddle position fore and aft at the same time as your saddle height, you can't isolate the effects of the change. Do them separately. For example, I moved my saddle forward in two 4 mm increments after changing to a Specialized Romin saddle (which I recommend).

I still think it's very odd looking how today's bike frames are so short and the top bar is short, giving the bike a very short wheelbase, and the stem is selected to give you the correct stretch. The frames also put the seat higher than the handlebars which isn't so great for older less flexible riders because the handlebars generally are still no higher than the top bar. Also the seat post extension seems extremely long, and needs to be, to get the proper leg extension, but for a heavier rider is not as stable as a bike that simply has a larger frame. It's the older standard that works for me, an older guy. I fail to understand the logic of a super short seat tube and a towering seat post.
