Your video was the only one that helped me figure out why I couldn't get my door handle to open from the inside of the car. The bowden cable was attached at the actuator but I didn't see the place where I had to push in the clip on that end and thanks to this video I have finally figured it out!!! I know this is for the lock actuator but it helped nontheless!! Thanks!!

How nice to hear an Australian accent mate. You had me tossed the first time I watched the video. Why with your accent was the lock on the left door. Thank you for your show. I bought the new one from ebay. Installed in with no issue; however, my remote door lock for driver side that I have just replaced not locked, not clicked. Will the new one from ebay not worked either?

Nice video! I have the symptoms of occasionally all 4 doors not unlocking when using the fob, BUT the tailgate does unlock. (2007 X5 e70). I wouldn't expect all 4 door actuators to be faulty at once - but does the drivers door actuator control all the others? Would you think I have a problem with the drivers door actuator or the control module? (98% of the time everything works fine). Would you also recommend disconnecting the battery when doing this repair?

Hi C41. I would be checking the aerial for the locking system and also the battery in the key Fob. I don't think it will have anything to do with the actuator. Hi, Thanks for getting back to me. 'checking the aerial'? was that an autocorrect typo and you meant to say 'manual'? ok, i'll check it out. The key fob does not have an accessible battery (its the non CA type that recharges as you drive - and it gets driven regularly). And yep, I did watch that video on my travels. It was also about just 1 door lock playing up... whereas mine are all 4. I wonder if my problem could be related to the early signs of a battery going? perhaps some days it just has not enough charge to unlock or something. Its been fine for the last 3 days... hard to work it out when it only happens rarely. Thanks again, Pete

Mark, Just got my 2006 X5 back from the shop. They fixed the driver's door handle, which stop function, and could not be opened from the outside (major pain, crawling across from passenger's side). However, I cannot lock/unlock this same door with the key fob, or via center console button. I can still lock/unlock this door manually, with key in slot from outside, but had to press down manually on lock itself to lock myself inside the cabin. Also, the dome light no longer comes on when I open the driver's door. Do you suppose they neglected to replace the actuator? And if so, is it likely to fix the dome light malady, too? Thank you for this great tutorial.

Sounds like it needs to go straight back to the shop. Something is up w the electrics. The actuator needs to be plugged in. The dome light is triggered by a separate switch in the door that lets it know when the door is open. MRT That should have all been tested before they gave the car back

Can you do this from the inside of a door that won't open? Front passenger side.

No. But there is a manual release that you can get to if you can get the door trim off.

Hey Mark, my 2006 E53 X5 has a similar problem with the rear passenger door. It won't open from the inside or outside. The lock itself goes up and down when I press the unlock button but the door is still sealed shut? Took out the back seat, removed the door panel with the door shut and tried everything to get it open but still nothing. Being unable to open the door, I'm not sure how I'm suppose to get off the locking mechanism in the first place to perform this repair. Any tips?

I do have a tip for you. Probably from what you are describing it could be your gm3 module. This is located behind the glovebox in your e53 X5. Go to www.bmwgm5.com And look under gm3. I took my car to this guy in LA and he fixed in on the spot. 😀 You can also post your module to him. My car would randomly trap the kids in the back seat. They literally had to climb out.

Could you or anyone confirm that my actuator is the problem? My lock felt frozen shut, so I twisted extra hard with the key and then it went from immovable to super super loose. Now the key rotates with ease (too much ease), and the door doesn't unlock.

Hi , i can’t open door from outside , handle works but door doesn’t open , I replaced door handle mechanism and still can’t open , do you think I need to replace door latch ?

There are little wires and clips that need to be in place to connect the handle, etc. step one I would make sure that everything is connected. Look to see inside the door of you can see anything broken or disconnected

Ha Ha. No auto correct, there is an aerial that receives the signal from the key fob. This can get corroded and give the type of intermittent fault that you have. Also the fob battery can be replaced you have to cut open the key an then glue it shut again. Do this when car opens with one fob but not the other.
