Raise your points 150+ in a few months. Its paying your credit card payment few times a month. Meaning if your minimum is 80dollars if can pay that 2,3 times a month for 3months or so. Your credit score goes up fast

Just wanted to let everybody know that two months ago had a 630 credit score and I got an unsecured credit card with a $500 limit. I actually maxxed it out (sorry graham) to help pay for a minor but emergency surgery. I paid my balance in full two days before the due date. And two days ago, my credit score jumped to 673. I now officially have "good" credit! Now it's time to keep climbing! (This is my own story, results may vary... but figured this might be helpful to somebody)

I agree. Dispute everything first. If it doesn’t fall off, try pay for deletion, if that doesn’t work, negotiate settlements. And definitely work on building positive accounts simultaneously.

I had a credit score of 821 before I bought my car. I have one credit for the last 25 years and I have never been late. Every auto loan I have had has been paid off and never been late. Wonderful feeling to watch them do a credit check on me knowing my score is 821.

Credit score is not something used in all countries though. In France, they determine if you are eligible to get a loan (e.g., to buy a house) based on the ratio between your salary, your expenses and your savings. Basically, if every month you 'burn' all your money, you're perceived as riskier than someone earning less but consistently making deposits to a saving account. I feel in the US people tend to buy things they don't need with money they dont have... The only times I feel one should need a credit is when buying 'big' things (house, car, etc.). Not for a TV. I'm 42 with over 792 credit score, time was put into that to build it up with the help of

Fixing bad credit after divorce and a financially abusive marriage is very challenging season, especially when the house has to be refinanced 😣 I hired someone to help me because I'm too busy with a full time job and 4 teens to manage this on my own. It takes a while, so far almost 2 years. Moral of the story, take care of your own finances even if you think your spouse is "taking care of everything!"

As long as it’s paid off before it’s reported. Each Company reports usually monthly and what ever the balance is at the time of reporting is what hits your credit report.

This actually really helped because i thought i was smart opening a low limit credit card and using that small amount i had then paying it off. It was negatively affecting my score because i was usually using 80% of the limit of the 300$ credit card.

Just a side note, be careful about opening additional credit cards. You will receive a hard inquiry and this impacts your score too and stays on your credit report for 2 years. Thanks for all the good content Graham!

I had a situation where my former landlord put all these charges on my credit saying I damaged the apartment and I left early, none of which is true. I was exploring the lawsuit option but in the meantime, I was not able to rent an apartment because of this and it destroyed my life. My mom did this to me as well. She took out large sums on things and included me on them and paid them off, so when I finally wanted to use my credit, I had years of credit history and a 700 + credit score

A bad credit score has also cost me in extra rent costs (and extra deposits), extra in cell phone bills, insurance, and deposits for bills. I've FINALLY gotten my score up to 700+ but it took a long time. Unfortunately those late/missed payments have really hurt me. Credit cards weren't my problem...it's all student loans.

Green j I don’t know about a website, but I am finally doing something about my student loans through hard work and paying them off. I have a channel here on KZfaq where I talk about how I’m accomplishing this. There are also tons of other people here on KZfaq that are becoming or have already become debt free. Check out the KZfaq channels: Budget Girl, Freedom in a Budget, and The Finn Mindset to see people that have already become debt free and you can see their whole journey already for inspiration. Then there is me, The Budget Bounce, Q Makes it Happen, Well Behaved Wallet, Pennies Not Perfection and a ton more who are still working our way through our debt...most of us have student loan debt that we thought was insurmountable, but we are doing it and paying it off!! You can do it too!!!
