One of our technicians here at Stanfield Air Systems, Teressa, will walk you through some of the reasons your thermostat may be blank. A blank thermostat is one of the most common calls we get and is a sign that your heating and air system is having an issue. If you would like to get a quick rundown of the top three things you can do to correct this problem, please watch this video.
If none of these possible solutions fixed your issue and you need a technician, please contact us here to schedule an appointment online or call us at (706) 549-4767. We serve the Athens and surrounding areas and counties, and we will be happy to come out and see exactly what the issue is for your heating and air system.

I was just getting ready to call the HVAC repair folks when I found this video. I checked the batteries in the thermostat and found they were corroded. Once the batteries were replaced, the thermostat worked perfectly. Thanks!

My split unit HVAC shut off and the Trane XL824 screen was blank/black. Checked all the circuit breakers (outside unit, garage, attic, & inside the unit itself (left side) and they were all fine. Needed it fixed so we called the HVAC guys. All they found was a 3 amp fuse inside the interior unit that had blown. No other explanation other than there might have been a power spike of some sort. Replaced the fuse (this is the same type fuse you find in automobiles with the two flat prongs), flipped the power back on and everything was back to normal. Got charged $218 for the repair (holiday rate). The 3 amp fuse itself was billed at $18! If you have this same problem, power down the unit, remove the panel over the internal circuit breakers and check this fuse to see if it's blown. Replace if necessary. Hope this helps you avoid the same situation we found ourselves it.

Where exactly was the interior fuse? Is it on the air handler unit?
@DavesLife100

this 3 Amp fuse is in the 24 volt side of the HVAC system and does not blow without an issue in that circuit. That company should have dive deeper to find root cause. Hope it does not blow again

Thank you, i found my daughter who was visiting from LA had accidentally tuned off the furnace switch next to light in the attic when looking for an extra suitcase. Its a two story house and I had been having problems for past five days with no display showing on lower floor thermostat. I changed the batteries twice and made sure the terminals were clean. I also flipped the furnace breaker off and on in the garage. For the first time in 5 days the outside A/C for downstairs was on. We just got home for a quick trip from Houston to Galveston for one overnight stay for Mother's Day and were major bummed because when we entered the house this evening at around 8 pm both downstairs and NOW the Upstairs thermostats were registering 81 even though I set them both to 72 when we drove down. The furnace switch was accidentally turned off just before we left. So for now 20 minute late downstairs temp had dropped from 81 to 75 and upstairs from 81 to 78 with the former blank screen downstairs registering now. I also checked the pans which had no moisture from overflow and were completely dry. So hopefully your recommendation worked. I really do appreciate your video and great advice. Carl T in Houston.

It could be a bad thermostat, and it's easy to check in a house with two or more separate systems, all likely with the same model thermostat. Simply swap a good thermostat in place of the suspect thermostat (two screws and four color-coded wires). My replacement came from the less-used attic system and got us heat in the living area. Meanwhile, a new Emerson NP-110 thermostat will cost $18.

There are also fuses on the circuit board, could be in line, which might be blown. I looked at 23 youtube videos on this topic today and amazed not one mentioned this blade type fuse. That was our issue. Replaced and everything is working now, canceled appointment with HVAC person. 75 cent fix.

have a Lennox XP25 with a 10f81 thermostat. My numbers all disappear between the hours of 4 am till around 10:30 am. Then it comes alive again. Recycled everything. Does it even if system is off. I won’t call an expensive tech if the problem isn’t happening when they get here. A wasted service call. Frustrated. Not wifi related. Disconnected it from WiFi.

What if my thermostat didn’t have batteries in it for the last year & half & it just went blank & stopped working . I took the thermostat front off & seen it never had batteries but it does have a place for batteries. My question is should I just put batteries in it although it has worked without batteries or do you think it could be something else & I should just get a professional

The replacing the battery thingy is just wrong. Each thermostat is hard wired to the house electrical system. I woke up this morning, with the thermostat blank. Since it's hard wired, it's obvious, that it's not getting power. I put batteries in the thermostat, to see what the temp was inside the house, but other than that.....the batteries DO NOT start the furnace, if the thermostat is not getting main power from the house electricity. In my case, it's probably the thermostat that went kaput. I'll be calling a service person shortly, when they open.
