So this is exactly what is wrong with my car and i'm so glad i found this video. Mechanic just quoted me $800 to fix this issue. Im biting my tongue to say the least. Thank god for youtube in these trying times.

Surely your issue is more than just a broken hanger if you were quoted $800. What's on your quote as far as what needs to be replaced? I know there are rip-off artists but......

K Stewart keep in mind places like midas want to charge 700$ to change break pads and rotors. Greed sometimes knows no bounds

Thanks for the video it's the best one I have seen. I tried using coat hanger but there wasn't any where to wrap it around that kept it tight enough.

Great video. My hanger was rusted through. Broke off at the weld on the edge of back box. I luckily heard it going over a speed bump. I wasn't going fast but the car old and its a mazda 6 notorious rust buckets but keep going. It has a sports exhaust so twin pipes. Very expensive fix I put bungie cord temporary fix and tomorrow doing similar to this Was that a new exhaust insulator you fitted. The rubber piece?

The hanger is usually welded on, but you can slide it off the insulator

What can you do if the hanger rusted off the other end? The whole hanger piece is connected to my exhaust and rusted off the connection on the car. Thank you

Connect to the chassis and go around the exhaust pipe

How did he remove the rusty old hanger piece? Mine is still in a bit of an S shape and it’s tough to maneuver out of the rubber

Use a little oil to lubricate it, it should slide out with a little work

Why do cars use those insulators in the first place? Why not just bolt the exhaust?

To isolate the main chassis from vibration otherwise it would feel like your car is shaking. Every part that vibrates in your car has to transfer through rubber bushings or insulators like that including the engine.

@@lorenzod7829 If you're exhaust is bent enough to wear out an insulator in a matter of months, what would be the fix for this? I was going to buy another and then use a chain or something to help lighten the load on the insulator.

Depending how high up it broke, you may have to weld a new one. If there’s a little bit of metal left, you may be able to drill through and bolt on a new stem.

Hey man, I don’t know if you’ll see this but this is almost exactly what I needed. Unfortunately for me that little rubber piece came out. Do you know of the best way to glue/install a new rubber piece?? Thanks in advance.

You can purchase the insulator at any auto parts store. Trying to glue it won’t hold.

Just slide the old off the metal hanger and slide the new insulator on.

I have one problem, my insulator is turn the opposite way of the bracket if you catch my drift? It’s 90° off.

Putting thread locker on the end of the nut is not going to do a thing. It cures only between the threads of the nut and the rod---absence of oxygen. Usually takes about 24 hours to fully cure. Otherwise, good job and will save someone a lot of money.

i have a bmw,, there’s nothing above the exhaust pipe to clamp it onto, that bushing part is wayyy on the opposite side of where my exhaust pipe is… help idk how to keep it up , i’m currently using duct tape

@@PhillipsVision 2010 323i , i have a muffler delete so it’s just bare pipe where the muffler once was but it’s stayed up for months. idky it started falling now

You will need to replace both with the hanger kits

A mechanic broke off the metal hook it had the rubber thing over on my exhaust system cuz my car was making a bad sound underneath and he said it was that hitting the muffler It wasn't even what it was I need a new shocks and then he broke that piece off and said it doesn't do anything anyways you don't need it???

I have no muffler at all. Just my exhaust, i have 3 hangers/rubber mounts, the 1 hanger in the very back is for my non exsistent muffler so ignore that. Lol. I do however have one that broke off, so do i just need a new rubber mount and hanger?

@@PhillipsVision awesome, the only mounts i can fit for my exhaust are the middle and front, underneath...the very back doesnt have anything to support 😅 hence no muffler...cheers man!
