In this video we are fixing a Milwaukee nail gun.
The nail gun just spurts and makes a farting type noise and does not sink nails.
I show how to disassemble the nail gun, and repair it.
The fitting to fill I believe is a 1/8" BSP male, and you need a pump capable of providing around 160psi fill pressure.
I had a comment that the method used would not work because the centre pin wasn't pressed on the valve.
There is no need to have anything press the centre pin of the Schrader valve, as they have an "opening pressure". They are a one way valve designed to keep the air inside the container.
If the pressure of the air being pumped in is greater than the valve opening pressure + pressure inside the container already then the valve will allow air to flow into the container.
If you search "schrader opening pressure" on google for instance you will see the specifications for different valves.
Here is an example:
Product Code: 015660113 / 1566T.
Opening Pressure: 0.2 - 4PSI
Working Pressure: 15 - 150PSI
As you can see, the opening pressure really isn't that much, the working pressure is what the valve is meant to hold inside the container.

I bought this nail gun as we were planning to renew all the fencing in our back garden. As this involved 19 double slatted fence panels, 10 of which needed to be cut down in size, we knew there would be a need for a great kzfaq.infoUgkxHQsUrwNr5GQrnx9V4xDdUr56qxwuiBHt deal of re-stapling the wooden slats to the wooden framework. Each alteration required the re-stapling of 62 wooden slats with double staples. Prior to starting the work we ordered sufficient additional staples as per the instructions with the gun.The gun performed fantastically throughout the entire project with no jams of misfires. The adjustable power was excellent allowing the staples to be fired into the 8mm slats to the correct depth. For the price paid this was a bargain and it proved itself to be so reliable and versatile making an arduous task much quicker and professional. I cannot recommend this product highly enough and it will be used on many other projects in the future.

Thank you sir. I took a gamble on Milwaukee battery powered tools. Replaced all my pneumatics and corded power tools with Milwaukee platform. If a pneumatic gun goes down, it's easy to order parts and they are not nearly as expensive to replace. So, upon trimming my third house using the battery platform, when my 18 gauge lost it's oomph, I was heartbroken that I may have to dish out 300 bux for a replacement. Hopefully, this video will prove to be helpful.

hi where can i get the schematics of this tool? i need to reassemble the gearbox
@BuyitFixit
@BuyitFixit Жыл бұрын
There are no schematics. Most of the tools use a planetary gearbox arrangement where there are 3 cogs in the centre where the motor shaft goes with an outer cog, this then usually connects to another similar set (I disassembled a drill some time ago)

Thank you for the video, I have this nailer and it has lost some pressure as it only fires 90mm ring shank nails half way as it never used to. What is the valve connection that you used? is it possible to get something like that to connect to an air compressor? Any help would be great. Thank you
@BuyitFixit
@BuyitFixit 2 жыл бұрын
I think it is a 1/8 BSP male connection, as searching for similar pumps that's pretty much what they said. The pump used was a stirrup pump for a PCP air rifle, but apparently Scott used a high pressure bike pump that goes up to 160psi with an adapter he made from a normal bike style valve to a 1/8 bsp male. Glad you enjoyed the video and found it useful!

Do you think the narrow 1/4 crown stapler gun m18 also works the same as these ? So how often those this maintenance has to been done ? And one big quest does Milwaukee warranty cover this service of the refill of air or there’s is a cost even the 3/5 years warranty , so you used just a compressor to fill up no special gas like nitrogen? I saw the ryobi version brush but they use the same motor to sort of compres the air in like a chamber no need of compressor which is good and bad as idont know how deep can the brad or staples can penetrate the material. But I learn a lot just by watching you video

Hi, Found your vids really helpful. It's hard to have these filled with nitrogen as I'm not sure if there is a maximum psi lable on cylinder. So tyre or diving shops are reluctant to touch. Theses no info around to give maximum psi that you kindly supplied. So air pump it is. Did you use some kind of regulator on that pump. As it's hard to get an accurate 160 psi with a gauge that goes up into the 4000's
@BuyitFixit
@BuyitFixit Жыл бұрын
Thanks 👍. I was told around 160psi, but s viewer recently said he thought it was too much and around 120psi was better. You can always start lower and add a few more pumps you think it's not powerful enough. Yes it was hard to gauge on the gauge as you said due to the scale.

Yes, parts for a lot of Milwaukee tools aren't readily available, and even when they are I've found they tend to sell a full assembly rather than individual components. I repaired a M18 orbital sander which the motor shaft had snapped. You could not buy the motor, but had to buy a whole assembly with bearings, belts, cogs etc which was £89 and a new sander was only £99! I managed to find almost the exact motor on Aliexpress and repaired it for £9.

It's not O2 as the air is 78% nitrogen. They use pure nitrogen because it is supposed to be less susceptible to temperature differences and less likely to cause corrosion. Apart from that it will work fine. You can get nitrogen refilling kits on Ebay for air conditioners which should work too. Works fine with air also 😂😂

These sure have come a long way. Back when i was a sparky in the 90's, the fancy home builders had cordless nail guns that took a gas cylinder and had spark igniters. They fired the nails in to the framing with a really loud report and a venting of gas. I thought THOSE were cool.

Great video! I have a question thought. Do you think using compressed air will rust and cause problems long term with the cylinder and piston? Hydrogen is lighter than air and effects the electrochemical kinetics of the metal. not sure what's worse pitting or rust? I guess if the air was clear and dry it shouldn't make a difference. Thoughts?

Yes if the air had moisture in it then it may over time cause some oxidation of the aluminium, Hydrogen is explosive so I wouldn't fancy that!

@BuyitFixit
@BuyitFixit Ай бұрын
The canister is used like an air spring. The gas in the cylinder is compressed and gets compressed even more when the motor winds the ratchet back. When you press the trigger the firing solenoid gets energised and releases the firing pin / ratchet which then shoots forward. If there is a slight leak the cylinder loses pressure over time resulting in a kind of farting noise when you try to fire the gun.

@BuyitFixit

There's a solenoid that release it (fires the gun). I'd be very careful doing that though. What I did was empty the remaining gas and stripped everything down (as in the video) then there is no issue and probably a lot sater. If it still has gas it, I'd watch your fingers if you release the pin manually. Perhaps move it with a screwdriver or something so your hand's are well out of the way. The little solenoid is silver and has a little lever on it that gets pulled in and releases the firing pin.

@BuyitFixit
@BuyitFixit 5 ай бұрын
What pressure does your compressor go up to? You need to have 160PSI for it to function correctly. Try pressing the valve centre to see if anything comes out. If it won't pressurise then there must be a leak. Perhaps try filling it and then listen to see if you can hear where there is air escaping? I doubt it will be the valve and more than likely one of the seals. Did you strip it down and clean it all?
@danielrussell8764
@danielrussell8764 5 ай бұрын
My compressor goes up to 180psi, but when I try to pressurise the canister, it stops at 100psi and won't go any higher. The valve definitely holds some pressure as I can release the air by pressing on the valve. Do I need a higher out compressor. The spring is then extra hard to pull out of the canister, hence why I thought that it must still retain air.

no, no need. I explained in the video description about the opening pressures of Schrader valves as someone said the video was fake due to not pressing the centre pin. The air pressure to open the valve is only a few PSI more than the internal pressure of what is in the cylinder so if the cylinder has 30PSI inside and you try to put 36PSI in, the valve will open regardless. It's there to stop the air coming out 🙂
