Fix a Neckline that Sticks out and is Gaping.
If the front bias cowl neckline of your dress or blouse is supposed to be draping down but only sticks out, adding pleats and lowering neckline can fix this problem.
This usually occurs if the style if meant to stand out and away from the body or if the fabric is to thick and stiff to drape properly.
Also, if the cowl neckline isn’t designed low enough, it will not hand down at all.
You can also do this for Bias cut skirts that have the same issue.
It is best to pin the pleats with the dress on so that you can adjust the pleats accordingly for a perfect fit.
For a shortcut or if you’re in a pinch, you could even pin a brooch through all the layers and not have to sew the pleats.
Make sure to keep stitches in one spot for a neat professional finish.

This finish is definitely better done by hand . It can be very thick and you can knot off better by hand. Thanks for watching

No it was about it not sticking out instead of draping nicely as the fabric was too stiff. It’s actually less revealing now as it sits against the skin and not away from it.

You can try to pin it as nicely as possible from the inside. OR if you have a nice decorative pin, it could be a feature on outside. In that case, you could even just pleat the fabric onto a nice stick pin. 😊

Glad you like them! I did not make this dress but you need to always cut your fabric on the bias to make a cowl neck. Use a soft fabric that drapes easily. This is why I had to fix this dress for my client. The fabric used was too stiff and did not drape. It just stuck out and did not look nice. how/why would this even occur in the first place? is it made for women with larger breasts?

this happens with a garment is designed with a cowl neck but the fabric used is too stiff to drape down properly. Even though it is cut on the bias, it will still stick out. It is not a but size issue as you can see it is only too loose above it. A finer silk or satin would’ve worked better for this style. Sometimes you are able to fix this issue by sewing a weight on the inside of the neckline facing. Thanks for watching😊

Not every detail suits every person wearing it. Client liked colour, straps and style but had a very small bust and it just looked like it was squashing her chest. The fabric was also too thick to drape nicely so by adding the pleats, it was much more flattering.
