Scotty Kilmer hello, I have a 1999 honda passport, I did not put my timming belt back correctly after I installed a new water pump, now engine won't turn over, I understand that I most likely bent some valves , but is there any possibility of an easier fix??? thx john

Scotty Kilmer I have a 2004 CRV and it overheats when stopped for a bit in traffic but once I start moving it cools back down. This only seems to happen when it's hot out. The air blows cold from the AC. It also cools down if I crank the heat up when it starts to overheat. Any help would be appreciated

This guy is great. I have had mechanics that get emotionally tied up and say "your car is a mess just buy a new one". To me a good mechanic looks at this pragmatically and thinks how can I fix this even if it's expensive. I'll make the decision if I want to spend time and money on my car. Most people don't have the know-how or desire to learn about how engines run so a mechanics' word is as a good as a witch doctors. The best mechanics imo have good attitudes and understand that if you have the tools, know-how, and time you can fix anything. I've had mechanics tell me my car wouldn't last a few weeks and the car ended up lasting years. I admire guys like this host, that are creative and have a can do attitude. Mechanics that scare too easy I don't have time for.

On the other hand if the person who is most likely to benefit from doing a ton of work on your car tells you it’s not worth it, it may actually not be worth it. Just saying. They have a financial incentive to do expensive work so when they tell you it’s not worth it - they might just be looking out for you.

With gummed up radiators, sometimes you can use some radiator flush additive to clean it up and bit. It's not as good of a fix as replacing the radiator, but it's a heck of a lot quicker, easier, and cheaper. It may even keep you going for a couple more years before actually having to replace it.

At 2:35 you are suggesting to pull a wire from the positive side from the battery towards the fan to 'jumpstart' it. You should tell that on some fans the required power will burn such a thing wire instantly. So be carefull when you jumpstart that thing lol, that small wire will smoke within a second. Some fans require a 15A or even higher current in order to run.

Top of the radiator where the radiator cap goes. Same hole you put coolant in. If there's engine gasses/fumes going into the radiator due to a bad head gasket, they will make their way into the coolant, through the radiator, up to the coolant fill hole, and mix with the blue fluid.

I learned so much in just one video. Currently trying to figure out why my 07 G35 coupe started heating up randomly on a quick trip to the store. Ill be doing all of these tests tomorrow. I checked the coolant and it was watery, my guess is that the previous owner was running it with water instead of coolant/antifreeze and little by little it started messing up. We'll see what happens.

Don't forget to check the water pump. A lot of them have plastic impellers that break over time and no longer flow coolant like they are suppose to.

I remember two years ago that I had a leaking radiator in my Chevy S10. The funny thing about it was that the coolant was circulating, but the leak was allowing coolant to escape. I went and bought a new radiator and it only cost me a little more than $100. All I had to do was remove the air intake, remove the fan shroud, disconnect the coolant hoses and out it came. I put in the new radiator and the truck ran great afterward. The best thing was that I no longer had to keep adding more coolant every once in a while. But, it didn't end there. The following summer, I had taken a beach trip. When I got there, I noticed my coolant was boiling in the reservoir. I thought nothing of it since my engine wasn't overheating. It wasn't until a couple days later that I realized the radiator cap had gone bad. It wasn't allowing the coolant system to pressurize and allow the coolant to circulate. I replaced the radiator cap and no more boiling coolant. Everything was normal after that. I love it when engine problems are very easy to fix.
