Other than using a paper clip to assist in removing the old wires, I followed your instructions to the T. A lot simpler than I could have imagined. I went with out my bedroom ceiling fan for months and just put a regular fan in my room. DUH!! Thanks bro!!

If you look where the wires push into the switch, usually there is a release tab on the switch . Using a pick or small bladed jeweler's screwdriver to release the wire is easier... Great video Lex.

Good video man !!!! As you I work in an apartment complex too and those ceiling fans are pain in the ass lol , noisy, shaky ceiling fans are very often in my property . Good video I always learning when I watch your videos .

It's a LOT cheaper than getting a whole new fan. More often, people just throw out an old fan and buy a new one, and older fans are usually better than newer ones so they are worth fixing. Fixing a chain is actually cheaper and easier than to replace the whole fan. I was actually able to fix the chain switch once by opening it up and taking chain out.

Before I learned how to work on them, Id install a whole new fan because the pull chain was broken. LoL! Yes, people should do all they can to keep their old fan going. The new stuff is crap with a capital C. Thank you so much for watching The Channel of Random Ceiling Fans!

Try to push open the slot a bit with a very small screwdriver. Shove the wire in then slide out the screwdriver.

my fan chain completely broke off, partially my fault as I don't pull it properly. Is there a way to replace the chain from the inside of the switch? my fan is a harbor breeze ceiling fan if that can help. This was the second time it happened and I don't want to replace a $40 fan.

Leo Garcia hmmm not sure. wrong switch or a wire went into the wrong hole. sorry for the late response. my phone died in Disney world and I had to get a new one today. 4 days later.

Lex Vance . No worries. The problem was the wrong switch. I purchased the switch from HD and my fan ended up being a harbor breeze, so I went to Lowe's and bought their switch. Works now!

Fallenheroes742 Hmmm could be a few reasons. I'd start simple first. 1. is the breaker good? if yes then 2. is the light switch good? if yes 3. check wires above fan & make sure they're connected good. If all that is good 4. could be a bad capacitor or burned out motor. Thats when i grab a new fan & install it.

My boyfriend decided to be stupid and hold one of the blades while they were spinning. It stopped spinning when he let go and does not work anymore. I'm thinking he broke the motor but don't know where to begin. Do you have any advice for us?

Lex Vance Thanks for the quick reply. They used fairly thin gauge wires on the Home Depot Hampton Bay (except for the black wire). They pull out too easy from the new switch. Will try splicing on a more rigid trio of wires.

worst fan is a lowes brand harbor breeze noise/ wobble-. they look good when they are off. paper clip beside wire, instead of pulling works to free wire metal tab at a inward angle

when doing these videos I wish the people who do them would show step by step video showing everything they do starting with removing the light kit. Also have someone else hold the camera so we can see what's happening. Need to replace chain on my fan but once I remove the light globe I don't know how to proceed from there (which screws to remove to get to where chain pull is).

I did that exactly but fan still not working. Orginal switch was square in shape but new switch was round. Could this be the problem??

that was too easy Lex. Earlier this week I had to replace a 22w circline ballast on a ceiling fan light kit, and it's not the first time either. This time I didn't repl. it w/OEM, because the electronic turd is a bad design. Retrofitted a big'ol heavy magnetic ballast in. It ain't pretty when you take the globe off, but it works great, and the tube lights up instantly with no delay. Also deleted the pull chain, to have one less thing to fail...thats what wall switches are for.

was that property wired with two switches on the wall? great if it does! Developers dont think about details when they build these complexes, such as "neighbor noise". Having the neighbor below yanking the chian in the middle of the night is hard to hide on some fans. That would be my justification for deleting the fan pullchain, and NEC 210.70(A)(1) for deleting the light pullchain.

I replaced the chain switch and now my fan won't turn on at all. It hums. What could be the problem and the solution to it.

If it worked before you replaced the chain switch, then there must be a wire in the wrong slot or the capacitor gave out. Or the motor is bad. Hard to tell by not being there with my volt meter.

Hello. Changed speed switch. 1 - grey, L - black, 2 - brown, 3 - purple. Same as before. Fan speeds, low, med, high seem to work, but I cannot switch the fan off. 🤔

I bought a new one but i didnt buy wire nuts. Should i just take the wires out of the one i bought from home depot and switch it with the broken one out inside my ceiling fan with the new one from the packaging?.
