Dude, as a newbie in this mecha community, I just want to say that, you're saving me a lot of time and money. I tuned my stabs, and those tick sound persisted. Not rattly, but tick that made me crazt. I was thinking to re-tune my stabs all over again or buy a new set of stabs. It all changed after I saw your video. Now I can sleep in peace. Many thanks dude (edit, after hours of experimenting): the tick sound is caused by the tip of the stabs wire 'wiggle' inside the stem housing when we soft tap the edge of the keycaps. that wiggle creating friction, hence the tick sound. adding the small amount of foam like this dude recommend, prevent the wiggle, eliminating the tick sound. but the downsides are, the bottoming in and out become very mushy. I found out another solutions, covering the tips of the wire using 1 layer medical tape or plumbing tape (a.k.a the noob version of holee mod). it works. OR using a large amount of thick lube (like permatex) on the tips and stem hole also works.

or get a syringe with permatex grease inside and do minterly's "plugging the butt" method.

Yeah, but, it did work but not as well as I hoped it would. And, now my space bar feels stiffer than I'm used to. But I'm sure I'll get used to it and everything will be fine. Although, I used denser foam but less of it and lost it in the stabilizer so now I would have to take it all apart if I want to get the foam out. So while it doesn't rattle anymore. It's not perfect. And, I wish there were more of these so I could see how different people did it. There's only a few videos about this problem. I wonder why Cherry went cheap on these stabilizers. They were the gold standard of switches until their patent ran out. Now, they're no better than Gateron or any of the other "clones". Anyway, this stiffness is going to take some getting used to. It feels like my space bar is a Cherry mx green now. (I use blues right now). I'm thinking of building my next board and going back to browns. I started on them and I think they are my favorites. I love blues though.

Under the wire. I did a similar mod recently where you put a piece of fabric in the disassembled stem, through the back side with one hole and into the upper concave part of the front side, and it gets rid of the clicking. The reason it happens is because of the wire smacking against the bottom part of that concave area where the wire sits on the downstroke.

you can afford to put more dielectric grease, especially on the portion of the wire that is inside the moving part of the stabilizers. this makes the wire not rattle inside the stabilizer (the main cause of the rattling). the rest of the mods really only work when you bottom out, which is a lot more effort. using the sharp tool, lift the opposite end of the stabilizer such that you can see the ends of the wire, and coat it in the grease. alternatively, dip the end of the wire into the grease beforehand.

Here’s what I found out, you don’t need to use the make up sponges or whatever he used all you need to use is a paper towel cut in the slim slice and then fold it over once it should be just thin enough we’re still loose and can get in but also it’s very quiet.

I find using some soft rubberized floss picks do wonders for getting the grease up in the stabliizers. I skipped the sponge step and got the grease up underneath the wires where the stabilizer sits and it's a million times smoother. I think one thing to mention with this method is that some of the tactility is dampened a little bit while you wait for the grease to disperse a little better, and in my case, my Kailh Burnt Oranges felt a bit like linears for a while afterwards

Yo I actually found another way to eliminate the rattling sounds, if you have a pre-soldered PCB. Look up Acrylic Tape (They are thick rubbery, non-conductive transparent tapes that doesn't wear out overtime, or stick to any surfaces, which is a good material to absorb vibrations from the metal bars to the PCB). I wedged a small tiny piece perfect enough to fit under the plate, but right next to the metal bars, just outside the stabilizer. That helped me eliminate most rattle! If you clip and lube it, it will just 100% remove any rattles.

some stabilizer rattle is caused by the plastic housing being too small for the plate, leading to looseness (I'm looking at you Pok3r RGB). You can tell if you have this just by wiggling a finger on top of your key without even pressing it down, if it rattles, that means it's not tight enough on the plate. I have found adding bits of scotch tape on the tops and bottoms holds these 'loose' stabilizers down and prevents them from rattling.
@JustKeepFlying
@JustKeepFlying 7 жыл бұрын
This is actually the problem that I have been trying to fix, i tap the right side of my keyboard and it will rattle and go down a bit almost as if something is loose. This doesn't happen on the left side and this is with cherry stabilizers. Unfortunately I don't really understand what you mean by the "tops and bottoms" so I'm not too sure where to add the tape.

will try out the sponge thing on my anne pro2 tomorrow i think. What allready helped a ton was flipping one side up with that little nib and put some band aid in between so the stabs had no wiggleroom left. The spacesbar sounds okay by any means in comparison to pretty much all keyboards you can buy in local stores but its still far from perfect. What i noticed was that theee stab rattl sound mainly comes of the right side for me and touching that little cross with your finger makes it jump around on the wire quite a bit so the sponge hack might just do the trick there. Alltho next month or so i ll desolder it anyways for different switches and then i ll fix the stabs or put different stabs in anyways but you know... thats the thing with keyboards, ''good enough'' is just a temporary thing, once you know it COULD sound better...you want it to sound better

I did this without the grease, but used the exact same sponges from Walmart. They're actually more like $2, but that's whatever. I can say that this slightly helped, but it's definitely not "fixed by any means. I'm going to try and put another square piece in from the top as well and see if that helps. I'm also slightly worried that the sponges will move around after a while and get lost within the keyboard somewhere, never to be found again. But oh well.. I'm doing this on a HyperX Alloy Elite RGB with upgraded double-shot PBT keycaps. So it's not the most expensive keyboard in the world. But It's definitly not cheap either. I'm into this thing, just under $200. So anything to fix the rattle helps. But they should have just used quality stabilizers for that much money tbh...

I applied the same Dielectric Grease in the 2 areas he suggested, which helped. What really helped, was under the plastic stabilizer where the steel stabilizer rod goes into. I noticed slightly touching the keycap, the steel stabilizer rod would slap onto the plastic stabilizer insert, where the end of the steel rod gets inserted into the plastic stab part? If that's what's called? Applied a little more on the left plastic stabilizer and it helped. Question though, will dirt, dust stick to the grease and give it problems? If so, would cleaning it be a problem?

Do you need the grease or is it just a recommendation to make it sound and function smoother?

I lubed my stabilisers with dialectric grease two months back and they seem to be ratteling again. The less used right enter on my 100% board sounds considerable thokier

It would be cool if you could look into some old SKCM ALPS keyboards. Thanks for the useful video!

Yeah I have watched almost all his videos. I just thought it would be cool to get a second opinion and see if he likes them more than cherries or gaterons.
