If the sliding door on your van is hard to open and close, or if it feels like the door of your van is stuck when you open and close it, you can fix the stuck door by oiling the rollers. The van in the video is a GMC Safari, which is the same as the Chevrolet Astro Van. Most minivans use a similar system.
To fix your van door and make it open smoothly, get some spray oil, like Tri-Flow and spray oil on all the rollers, top, middle, and bottom. Once the rollers on the stuck van door are oiled, the door will open smoothly.

My grand caravan's sliding door got jammed after a recent flood. It budges a little, and it's closed mostly. It just won't seal closed. It also doesn't open, automatically or manually.

Which Tri-Flow are you using (there's more than one kind)? Does it have Silicone or Teflon in it? I'd like to find the details on it and compare it with something that I can buy local so I can make decision what to get.

That sound calls for roller change. I did mine with regular ball bearings in size that fit, also a peace of electric termosleave that goes over the cables for isolation. Over the bearings, and heat it with the hot air. Now you can bearly hear the door sliding. It took me 1/10 of the price of complete used arm with rollers.

wonder how long the plastic sleeving will last -- was it heatshrink?
@mihamaker
@mihamaker 3 жыл бұрын
@@morrayp Hi, it lasted couple of months. Nylon would be better. I ordered bearings with nylon sleeves on them. Will se how it will perform. Yes it is heat shrink, but thicker one with adhesive inside for underwater cable connection. Regular one is too thin. This one after shrinking has 2mm walls.

Mine was hard to get open in the first place. I’m not sure what could be stopping it from going all the way open. You might want to check the tracks and see if there’s some crud in there stopping things from opening all the way.

That works. It is better to lubricate it before it gets stuck, rather than after.

@hoohoohoblin 8 жыл бұрын
+Small Business Experts You should be able to force it loose by pulling on the handle and pushing the door outwards from inside the van. That is, unless the lock is stuck shut. My van once had an electrical problem in the door lock which kept it locked and I couldn't open it with the key until after the battery ran itself dead.

You need to clean all the channels and recesses first ,before oiling or greasing the rollers ,monthly is good ,or sooner if your carrying dusty ,gritty loads .

This is general maintenance, NOT A FIX. I'm no mechanic, but if I'd found this to be a way of 'fixing ' something, then it wasn't really broken in the first place. Utter waste of my time. Glad I skimmed it instead of waiting for it to play. FYI, wd40 is fine.

Hi Damian, first of all you failed to read the title: "How To Fix a Stuck Sliding Van Door". If lubing mechanical parts removes the condition of it being stuck, the yes this is a FIX. Second, the wd40 is a great all around tool, but for this it would be a fix that will last very short due to nature of wd40. wd40 is very thin so it will drain down very fast and you end up at the beginning with stuck door, also wd40 is not really weather/water proof. So yes there are better lube types that will do the trick here.

@@madigorfkgoogle9349 No, Mr. M is correct! This was a waste. NOTHING is STUCK on this guy's van. It's just hard to open and close cause it's not lubricated! These van doors do get STUCK and either rocking the door up and down while trying to close it shut will jiggle it loose or you can stick a screw driver in to a section on the bottom left hand side to push it open so you can EASILY slide the door shut. The mechanism has an issue and no amount of grease or whatever will FIX it!
@madigorfkgoogle9349
@madigorfkgoogle9349 Жыл бұрын
@@eo3064 so you are another guy who cant read, nor can listen to narrator in video. NO, the door is not stuck in the video as he even said, since he is lubricating the mechanism at least once per year, but if you dont, the door will move hard until a point where it will get stuck. All it take to fix it is to clean and lubricate it, so it will not get stuck. What you describe: *These van doors do get STUCK and either rocking the door up and down while trying to close it shut will jiggle it loose* that is NOT fixing, it is just loose them, when they are already stuck and you cant move them, that is NOT fixing, they will get stuck again. While cleaning and lubricating with some thicker lube will fix the problem long term. As you can see in the video, the door is sliding fine, the mechanism has no issue and can slide easy, if lubed. Just for your information, moving metal parts if not lubed, always get stuck, no matter that bearings are the contact point. Even bearings have to be lubed. And second, if you would read my comment more careful, then you would get that I was not directly referring the video, I was just stating to Damian what is a FIX (since he was just skimming the video without listening to author), and why WD-40 is not really a good tool for long term solution. I was not talking about the specific door in video at all. So yes, for people who are unable to pay attention when listening to video, are skipping the video and cant read, for them this video is a waste of time, everyone else can learn from it and it may even help him. You are clearly not the second one...
