Well he's been a mechanic for 46 years lol. When working on cars that long you can do anything because it takes about 5-10 to become a great mechanic and fully understand everything in and out when working on a car. The more experience you get working in a shop, the more you're going to understand better. From you're mistakes and from all the training you have working on cars.

im taking my 06 crown vic BACK to the shop this morning for the 3rd time..had the trans rebuild 2 weeks ago and have been back twice already for the tail extension housing seal..still leaking eeven after driving only 10 miles or so. Didnt leak when i brought it to them for the rebuild..just had some neutraling out when taking a corner and a slow 2-3 sec engage from park to drive. They did a full rebuild ($2300) They are either putting it in wrong? i dont see how 2 new seals just leak...its also a transmission shop and you would think they could figure out the correct way...again this is a crown vic...a super simple (classroom) car if u will.
@scottykilmer10 жыл бұрын
no dip stick, you remove a side bolt on the transmission, and fluid leaks out that hole. if it doesn't leak out, you add fluid until it does.

just old age, the pads are one time went down to metal, and the rotors weren't changed. BUT, it stops straight, doesn't make noise, and doesn't shimmy at high stopping speeds. So, the owner doesn't care, and neither do I. Perfection is often not needed in machines, realize that.

Dude, if you're keeping the car, you're gonna need to do this periodically. Buy the tools and they'll probably cost 1 trip to the garage, then the next and all future seal leaks and axle failures will just cost parts.

depends on the design, some you can do without taking them all apart. and some are made so you have to take it apart to get to an inner seal

Thanks for this. QUESTION: How far should the new seal go in? Got a 94 sentra automatic and there's no inner lip on the shaft hole in the trans housing. Should they be seated just flush to the outside in this case? Changed it a couple times and keeps leaking; dawned on me that maybe I'm pushing it in too far.
