Good video - one thing to watch for though, if there seems to be a problem with shifting that points to the actuator, it may actually be excessive stiffness in the agitate/spin selector. Even if it moves by hand, best to hook AC power to the actuator with it installed and see if it can mechanically move the selector arm. A good actuator can appear to fail if there's too much friction to allow it to finish a full back and forth cycle. The motor senses the ends of travel back and forth and switches internally (on the red bodied actuator) and excessive load causes it to stall and fail the mode switch while switching to agitate. It returns back to spin, and the control module detects the error.

Once I found out how to use the diagnostic code sequencing then I found the F7 E5 actuator fault I examined the part and could tell it was frozen into position and replaced it with new (W 10597177). I releveled, followed the tech booklet on how to calibrate the machine (not necessary to calibrate). I works great!

Note: Some models do not require you to spin the selector knob to the left several times. Directions from the actual Tech Manual: Just turn the knob (encoder) counterclockwise ONE (1) click, then: Clockwise 3 clicks, counterclockwise 1 click, clockwise 1 click. Then select your desired mode by turning clockwise in the following order: - Done = Fault Codes - Spin = Automatic Test Mode - Spin + Done = Manual Test Mode - Rinse = Calibration Mode - Rinse + Spin = User Interface Mode (tests the other front knobs) - Rinse + Spin + Done = Software Display Version Mode - Wash + Done = Tachometer Verification Mode (speed of barrel rotation)

Having a similar issue with a Maytag MVW style washer. Mine does everything fine except the spin cycle. Everything points to the shift actuator. Took the guard off the bottom and removed the belt and inspected the clutch. No problem there. Hope it's just the actuator.

Seems to me that if the lever in the transmission were binding that it would overtax that little stepper motor. Putting a new stepper might fool one into thinking they were barking up the wrong tree.

We have a Whirlpool Cabrio washer (WTW5500BW0) that only clicks rapidly when start is pressed. Codes are F7E6 & F7E5. Will this repair be costly? Should we just purchase a new washer?

It doesn't have a transmission, it's a gearcase assembly completely different. Whirlpool should be sued for this crappy machines, and then put Maytag on it.

I have a man of speed Queen with three knobs not the two and my actuator went out last year so I bought a new one and put it on I had to replace the shocks and everything got used. It's been out of service for about a month now. And the only error code on it is it says the drive system shifter which is your this machine won't say it the peace that he's talking about the I won't say the name but the RPM shifter thereso mine only lasted a year brand new and it's saying it's having a faulty problem again. Sounds like design malfunction it seems to me.

Your diagnostic test never revealed anything, so why did you even include all that video? Then you drove off to get a new shift activator and replaced it. Was it getting the previous error code that helped you decide to change it? When it was fixed, you seem surprised.
