Good to hear your neck is a bit better! I send the link of this video to my brother-in-law. He has a pond with a hole lying around in his shed for ages. I told him to finally fix it or i will come and get the pond for myself, now i know how to properly fix it myself. Hopefully this will get him moving :-). I'm pretty impressed with all that work you are able to do yourself. Looking forward to more video's about the new deck. Cheers, Marcel.

Grote Griezel Well then, I’m glad I did the video now :) I think you should get the pond anyway! ;) I’m a jack of all trades, master of none. I’m in ICT but would MUCH rather be building stuff and saving wildlife. DIY does save you tonnes of cash though, I could never afford half the stuff I do if I had to get someone else to do it. I’m almost at the final stage of this part of the project and have only spent about £256 so far. Lovely talking with you again, keep safe xxx

Very helpful video, thank you. I have a similar leak to repair in a second-hand green fibreglass pond I have bought. The only thing is, the hole is near the top of the pond and the repair will be visible so I wanted to go over it with a matching top coat (gel coat?). Do you have any tips about that?
@Calastein4 жыл бұрын
jph2910 No problem :) Re. gel coating, I believe that as long as the surface is bondable, i.e. roughed up, then you could use an over the counter paint and just brush it over?

Great video! I am about to do a similar repair. Could i ask which resin you used?

I honestly can’t remember, but it would’ve been one I bought from a boat yard specifically for fibreglass

Do I have to do both sides? Much of the lip has been paved over. Thanks
@Calastein3 жыл бұрын
I don’t believe it would be essential to do both sides no. if you can get to the other side then you are obviously doubling up the amount of support and structure you are putting over the damage so it’s better but I don’t think it’s the end of the world if you do a good patch on just one side.

nice video mate can you just leave the repair like that or do you need to seal over it with sealant or gelcoat
@Calastein4 жыл бұрын
Milo Mower Hi, you can certainly just leave it, the resin would be super strong for years, but you could add the required colour gel-coat for aesthetic reasons if you wanted. ☺️
@mowersonsltd4 жыл бұрын
Okay thank you also do you have to do it on both sides of the leak
@Calastein4 жыл бұрын
Milo Mower I did the same repair on both sides yes :)

Would new fibre glass repair damage my gold fish , eg the chemicals from the new repair , do l need to seal in with another type of sealant , or is ok .
@Calastein Жыл бұрын
My gut feeling is no, because fibreglass ponds are essentially made of exactly the same thing as the repair patches and resins.
@spuddybag Жыл бұрын
@@Calastein thanks , yes , that’s ok .

Is it not toxic ??
@Calastein3 жыл бұрын
Hi, not once it cures, I mean technically all plastics and resin based materials aren’t perfect in the environment but in a pond that’s constructed with the same fibreglass/resin anyway, it’s fine.

@@Calastein thanks I had ago patched a old pond great stuff . Thanks 😎
