“For anyone still dealing with this issue and cannot add fuel at the pump without it spilling” ..after replacing my Charcoal Canister, Vapor Canister Vent Valve and Harness, and Vapor Solenoid..and having NO LUCK. It’s a tedious but manageable job.. drop your fuel tank “SAFLEY” and follow the Lines attached to the Charcoal Canister. Disconnect the lines and free the lines using a Air Compressor with a Gun attachment and free the lines from Charcoal Pellets build up..put everything back and start the Vehicle back up and fill up at the nearest gas station perfectly. ✊🏽

I can confirm this exact scenario. My 2008 Tahoe had the same symptoms. Replaced everything with no fix to the fuel fill issue. It wasn’t until I cleared the vent line of all the charcoal pellets that had come loose inside the charcoal container and back flowed toward the fuel tank. After that, fuel filling was flawless. I’d even venture to say that I probably did not have even needed to replace the solenoid.

Tip: instead of squeezing the clips for the lines, you can use 2 flat heads. Pry the tabs away from the lip on the canister tips, weakening the hose clips, and then you can pull the lines off. Much easier than trying to reach around stuff trying to squeeze the tabs and pulling at the same time. Most of these cars are 15+yrs old needing this done. The lines are pretty hard to remove for the first time at this point in life

@GrubNGas
@GrubNGas 7 ай бұрын
Without seeing your vehicle it’s hard to say…if the fuel smell happened after you replaced the sending unit I’d say check the seal on the tank. If the smell was there before, you might have a line leak or it could be the canister. Or evaporation solenoid.

Great video, only thing I wish is someone would give details on how to remove the clips. There are three hoses and each one has a totally different style clip. I spent more time trying to remove the clips than replacing the actual canister and bracket. In the end I basically forced two of them off, as no matter of squeezing, separating etc would work. One clip was clearly a squeeze and pull which was the only easy one. Still excellent video for showing the general process/location. Thanks!

Ok so if yours is losing that much charcoal like this (mine is) then the charcoal nibs are vacuum sucked all up your lines all the way to the engine where only vapors are supposed to be. There is a vapor solenoid up on the wngine that was catching these nibs. I am going to replace that, this while charcoal cannister, and the vent valve and blow air back down all the lines to get the nibs out. Avoid blowing up towards the engine and avoid blowing into the fuel tank. Air compressor with blow nozzle is what I am hoping will fix the shit in the lines. I had nibs all the way up to the part on the manifold.

Was your check engine light on? Or was it just the filling up gas issue? My Tahoe is doing the same with filling up but no check engine light is on. Of the 3 evap components, this is the most expensive to change. I’m debating if I should start with changing that canister first, or stating with one of the cheaper solenoids.

Maybe the fuel pressure sensor? If it's bad it might not be telling the vent to open when it should... with everything else you've done, and if you're sure you cleared all the lines thoroughly, It's probably either the sensor or a wiring issue... unless you're just super unlucky and the vent or purge was a dud, but I doubt that if you've consistently had the same problem. Let me know what you figure it out. I'm at war with my evap system atm.
