Have a vehicle with cigarette burn or a small hole in a seat or carpet and you want to fix it cheap? You're in luck. In this video, you'll see what I consider to be the easiest way to repair a cigarette burn in a car seat or carpet. All you need is a razor blade and some Elmer's glue.
The Elmer's glue holds up pretty well, but if you'd like a more durable adhesive, try Tear Mender (amzn.to/2HoNS9t).
While you'll still be able to tell it was repaired, it sure beats having a hole or paying hundreds of dollars for it to be recovered.

** Razor Blades **

** Tear Mender ** (Optional) This is a little more durable than Elmer's glue but still flexible enough to work on fabric.

When you keep tapping it, it looks worse, try to just put the carpet in to the hole and leave it alone. After it drys, then just take a small pair of scissors that one would use to trim a mustache, and then trim off just a little. Makes it look more natural.Other than that. It is pretty simple. But this is the Best video I have seen yet. Thank so much to my friend for being careless in my car. I now have to go and do this myself. Ruined my upholstrey.

Gray seats. Black carpet. I glued in light-gray fabric off the fuzzy back of the seat and drew the pattern with a sharpie. A couple dots with the tip of a sharpie breaks up the round look of the repair.

You can even do this with vinyl seats or really any kind of seat. But instead of using carpet fibers, you can look for a piece of the seat cover that is out of sight or beneath a plastic covering or extra material after the staples on the underside, etc, and cut a square slightly larger than the burn hole. Then cut a square the same size around the burn hole. Next, use a piece of cloth or paper and put it between the seat cover material and the seat cushion material, to create a backing over the hole. Then use the elmer's or super glue to glue that square of seat cover you cut out earlier to that backing. You can even match the pattern if you find a big enough place to get spare material. Or if you go to a junkyard and cut a section from a junked car with the same seats as yours.

@TheCarFlip 6 жыл бұрын
If you have a friend with grey carpet in their car, you could ask if you could trim a little carpet from a place no one would notice. Under a seat or plastic molding is a great place to get the carpet because no one will ever notice. If you don't have that option (that would be kind of a strange thing to ask someone), you could always buy a cheap set of grey floor mats and trim the carpet from them.

I will tell you that Maaco in Cary will paint an entire car for $269 and a truck, van, or SUV for $298. That doesn't include prep work repairing dents, dings, or faded paint though. For interior work my guy also isn't taking new customers, but I just met the guys that run Auto Interior Plus. Aaron's phone number is 919-604-2562. The Car Flip That makes sense. Most people don't have fabric glue on hand; Elmer's is a suitable sub. Yep, never know when you'll need some overpriced, 8yr old fabric glue to repair a 12 yr cigarette burn in the upholstery of a 19 yr old car. OMG. This fabric glue is so old it was made in the USA! LOL

Super glue definately didn't do well. I do not know of a way to dissolve that type of glue. You could try breaking it up with a flat head screw driver potentially. If it will break apart, you might be able to peal it up and start over. Otherwise you'd have to cut it out with a razor blade, and then redo it with the right type of glue. That option potentially could do more harm than good depending on how large a spot it is. Hope that helps!

If you cut of the end of a cigarette filter it will be almost a perfect fit so you can glue it right in the hole. Voila the whole is gone! : ) If you are always the first to sit in the car, no one will ever see it anyway.

You're not a smoker huh? There are lots of ways for this to happen, hot ash can fall off expectedly, or you're smoking a cigarette and need to grab something out of the car so the cigarette is between your fingers and it's easy to forget the length of the cigarette and how your hands are positioned. Lots of reasons.

Robert Green You’re right. It definitely wouldn’t have been an expressive fix. My upholstery guy would have probably fixed it for $80 or so. For someone looking for a free alternative, this is as easy a fix a as you’ll find.

I have customers that like to get involved and keeps the cost down by doing as much as they can handle them selves. I’m sure your local upholstery guy would not mind you just taking just the cover in just to pull the seam in on the top panel only. Just a thought. Good idea to use materials with in the vehicle

Dealers Trick, Don't be fooled, Just a "band aid on an open wound" kind of fix, this won't last long before it separates and looks worse, im guessing just till the cars warranty expires if any at all, then it's on you, Wonder what else they band aid up just to flip a car,

If you need to fill a small hole in a bumper, something like JB weld Steelstick would be a better choice.

It's just straight up Elmers glue. I'm experimenting with a couple other adhesives, but I've had good results with the Elmers.
