Hi everyone, in this video I show you how to fix a damaged or corrupt SD card in Windows 10 using the command line prompt. Maybe your getting the response WINDOWS CAN'T FORMAT DISK then this video should help.

THANK YOU !!! The chkdsk /f command is all I needed after my phone suddenly asked me to reformat my SD card, but put it in my laptop, ran "chkdsk /f" and everything was instantly fixed!

I came back here to thank you very much for sharing this information. I went to all sorts of sites and tried many things to fix three 32G SD cards and none of them worked. I have been trying to download and flash an operating system for a little computer and ruined three cards in the attempt. This worked like a harm and they are back to full functioning. I was fortunate in that there was no data on them taht I wanted to recover, I just wanted to repair them. Agan, thanks very much. I'm looking forward to more videos from you in the future.

DISKPART> create partition primary No usable free extent could be found. It may be that there is insufficient free space to create a partition at the specified size and offset. Specify different size and offset values or don't specify either to create the maximum sized partition. It may be that the disk is partitioned using the MBR disk partitioning format and the disk contains either 4 primary partitions, (no more partitions may be created), or 3 primary partitions and one extended partition, (only logical drives may be created).

When i created a primary partition, I've got an error message: "Virtual Disk Service error: The operation timed out. DiskPart has referenced an object which is not up-to-date. Refresh the object by using the RESCAN command. If the problem persists exit DiskPart, then restart DiskPart or restart the computer." What will be the possible solutions for that?

So you don't have to watch it multiple times Insert card open Disk Management get drive letter and disk # Open CMD window as Admin > chkdsk /f x: > diskpart > select disk # > clean > create partition primary > format fs-fat32 label=myLabel > exit > exit

Thanks alot! I used disk clean to clean my 64GB SD card. Then it became unallocated. I then inserted the unallocated card into my Sony a6500 and formatted it inside of the camera. Now it works again!

crockett rocket I have the same problem with and SD card I’ve only used in my Nintendo Switch, so it can’t be a virus of any kind. It happened from one day to another and I’m able to access all the data inside the card (videos, images, save data) and even back it up but I can’t format it or delete the files manually because every time I do so they magically appear again 🙃

Had a 16gb micro sd, but it was only showing 11mb available. Following this video I found out that the 11mb somehow became the primary partition, with the remaining unassigned. Was able to fix it and now it's working great! Thanks for the vid!

Me too. I had very important shit on there that I was actually going to backup later. I was taking a few final pictures when my phone just abruptly decided to corrupt my microSD card. I was literally about to take it out of the phone to back everything up from it onto my laptop when my phone started acting funny, so I restarted it, then it showed I had no SD card. This happened apparently for no good reason and there's nothing I can do about it either. I've tried everything I can think of, but apparently everything is gone and there's nothing I can do about it. Needless to say, I don't think I'm going to bother putting anything on this or any other card ever again, if it can just be corrupted by my phone whenever it feels like it. I'm not going to waste my time caring.

i haven't managed to fix my corrupt SD card, but I've managed to save all the files from there. Created an image file (with USB image tool for Windows), sent it to restore.media online service, and got my archive with all my videos in return. This is the best result I could achive so far (other tools didn't work at all).

Thank you so much!! I was using a 128g mini SD card on a Motorola Xoom tablet and took it out to transfer all the music (over 7,000) songs and it was corrupted. I tried to open the card on a windows system and still could not open it. All my computers indicated it was a corrupt card and wanted me to format. If I did that I likely would have lost all my songs and photos. Using your guidance I was able to get all my music files and photos back !!

Thx! Worked for me. My surveillance camera somehow corrupted a 4gb micro SD card. None of the format options worked whether through the camera software or on my notebook computer. One of the error messages I got using the Windows format option was that it could not format a RAW disk. Seems like my camera is the culprit since it's done that to 2 micro SD cards now, the 4gb and a recently purchased 32gb. I was able to read & format the 32 normally on the notebook using standard format option. Not so with the 4gb, but your command prompt method did the trick.

I have a corrupted 128 gb card, the disk manager shows the disk having two partitions, a healthy active partition, 119 gb in size & a small 16 mb unallocated. I have followed all the steps in the video with no joy, the active partition remains active & formatted, a quick or slow format both fail & i've not found an option to remove partitions. I have nothing on the card of worth, i just want to clear it to be able to reuse it. A GOPRO session camera was the devise in use when this card failed, the go pro files still remain on the card.

at clean part, command says " Diskpart succeeded in cleaning the disk" however when checking back on disk management it didn't clean.. and when trying to create partition, i can't either... and when proceed to format fs=fat32, command says "there is no volume selected" at this point, i don't know what to do anymore... :-\ help me...

i got really messed up sdcard, i was able to copy all files to safe from it, then i did method 2 but couldnt do partition because it says 0 bytes free space, only my android device can read it.... its 128gb card and mostly i have music in there, i can play ones in it but i cant put anything new to it...

I have tried to format 32 gb sd card but after 100% complete it show virtual disk service error and says volume size iss too big so we can not format big volume disk ?

64 GB memory cards won't format or clean on windows 10 FYI what options do I have left? as it won't format on the normal format setting either.

I tried it with my netbase car camera sd in my pc on the command prompt after I typed in chkdsk/f f: the type of system is raw. Chkdsk is not available for raw drives.

Hello i had a sd card for 6 years or so 64 gb i installed lots of apks, musics and videos. One day it got full as my phone told me i didn't paid attention after reboot it said it's corrupt, tried connecting to pc my phone still can't detect its in my phone but phone sends notification for corrupt sd card but doesn't show up.. can't format it

hello, I'm trying to fix my 400gb sd card using the same method, but does it only work for sd cards of 32gigs and under, because last time I tried, I got an error stating something about the volume being too big or something like that.

"cannot write boot sector" after chkdsk...please tell me what to do "create partition primary also dont work" And got this: DiskPart has referenced an object which is not up-to-date. Refresh the object by using the RESCAN command. If the problem persists exit DiskPart, then restart DiskPart or restart the computer.

i tried fixing my sdcard using the cmd, but saw a message like "The type of the file system is RAW. CHKDSK is not available for RAW drives", i just dont want to lose the data on my sdcard, please hellp me
