Depression is a common mental disorder. Globally, it is estimated that 5% of adults suffer from the disorder. It is characterized by persistent sadness and a lack of interest or pleasure in previously rewarding or enjoyable activities. It can also disturb sleep and appetite. Tiredness and poor concentration are common.

I think we need to change this rhetoric of “brave” enough to talk about mental health, I believe everyone needs to talk about mental health openly. Someone died of a heart attack or a car crash and no one mentions you have to be “brave” to talk about these things and why do we have to be “brave” to talk about mental health. People need to educate themselves and open up. This is absolutely awful. And doctors in medicine and health care workers in general are doing such an awful job of education the public which is their first and foremost responsibility to make sure everyone is healthy because medicine is such a huge business that we actually want everyone to be I’ll yes we want people to become depressed and get anxiety and die. We actively want people in society to die. This is just to awful and comepletely disgusting. People need to wake up and contribute positively to society. You know all these bad things happening in society? They are not just occurring, they are happening because absolutely no one wants to step up to make a positive and healthy society. And so that is why you remark you have to be “brave” because absolutely no one cares about anyone else’s pain and suffering g. Such a shameful and disgusting society we live in.

I understand this on so many levels. I, myself, had family members who took their own lives. I started suffering from depression at 14.5 years when my menstrual cycles started. I have taken medication, sought counsel, and used personal health modes to control the cycles of depression. I have a family history of fibromyalgia and after taking the 19-vaccine, my predisposition became full-blown condition. It took over 9 months to diagnose and then the medication I was given caused over 30 pounds of weight gain. After discussing it with my health professional, I decided, against their advice, that I was no better off dying from heart or liver disease, so I weaned myself off the antidepressant medication. Now I'm trying to find other medications or methods to control the nerve pain, fatigue, and depression that make this condition hard to control. I have an appointment with a different doctor this week, so hopefully this will be helpful. So, when I say I understand the heartbreak of suicide and the formidable journey of depression, I actually do.

"I'm trying to find" is perhaps the most important and hopeful thing. What Dr. Mike didn't mention is that some years ago, a study of pyschotherapists showed about 1/3 of patients feeled cured after five years. Which happens to be the placebo rate. For some people, some therapists are right, so don't be afraid to shop for one the same way you would try on shoes, if you can afford to. And Dr.Mike probably would not be allowed to suggest alternative medicine, which must be looked at very carefully because it can be dangerous. But a lot of pyschotherapists are complaing that federal law MUST be changed to allow careful trials and study of psyllocibin. If you can do this safely, consider it. Or at least, look into it. And in the last 15-20 years, doctors have taken to referring to the intestinal tract and microbiome as the third nervous system. Directly affecting serotonin levels, which are what most antidepressants are made to do. Keep looking, keep trying. Don't be afraid to look outside the box. If I could only figure out why dogs ALWAYS start a new day with a playful mood and a smile...I envy them that.

I really feel what you are saying. I also have both depression and fibromialgya (also GAD) and life with it is so difficult. A lot of people doesn't see how grand is the struggle just to get out of bed and do the most basic things. I have always been an ambitious person and it's really discouraging being bothered by so many complications such as the widespread pain and the deteriorating condition of my mental health, but I still try to keep going and looking for better times to come. It's hard, it's really hard.

I worked many years in the field of mental health, and I am a survivor of a life long recurrent depressive disorder starting at age 9.. At age 66, I have been depression free for 11 years. There are various lifestyle, issues that help. Achieving meaningful goals in life etc... I also used a Psilocybin once at age 55, and I have been mindful of my gut health. I believe these two things were key in keeping the depressive episodes at bay. I also eat a low carb diet which I believe is invaluable in maintaining a healthy body, mind and spirit. I never had more than mild depressive episodes, but do NOT be fooled by the word "mild." I was able to continue to work through the episodes, but *just barely.* Best of luck to anyone living and coping with depression.

TIP: get all the narcissists/covert narcissists, borderlines, histrionics, malignant narcissists, sociopaths, and psychopaths OUT OF YOUR LIFE, if you want to maintain a life free from depression. It is one of the *most important mental health tasks* you can undertake, and it helps to keep you depression-free (and yes, gut health is CRITICAL to how we feel mentally due to the gut-brain connection and it being the largest part of our immune system). People with psychopathology can DESTROY your physical health faster than you recognize, and cause your health to deteriorate, often DRASTICALLY...from the sheer subconscious stress your brain experiences just having them in your orbit. It TAXES YOUR SUBCONSCIOUS BRAIN...which has to stay in a state of alert each time you're in the vicinity of a pathological individual...only you may not be aware of it on a conscious level. The field of mental health is FULL TO THE BRIM of people with severe psychopathology (both diagnosed and undiagnosed/well-masked)...and not just the people who are clients/patients, but the professionals and even "experts" in the field who go into psychology and psychiatry to better understand their own f'ed-up internal world (and the dysfunctional families who broke them). I wish you very well in your recovery, and I'm so sorry that your depression started so very young. That almost sounds like something akin to bipolar depression, which is one of the true mental illnesses (not a personality disorder) that start so young. Keep kind, empathic, truly decent human beings around you as much as possible, as you keep the toxic, empathy-impaired, manipulators out of your life. Then, you will be better positioned to maintain the healthier mental state you've worked so hard to achieve currently. It took me decades of reading the literature from multiple disciplines to truly connect all this, and my deep dive began back in the mid 90s when I developed leaky-gut syndrome, multiple food allergies (to foods I had eaten my entire life without issue), and a white blood cell count that was so high, the began testing...and retesting...me for HIV (as a 25 year old, married, monogamous female) because it threw my immune system into such disarray. If this info doesn't help you, I hope it will help someone who reads it. Best wishes to you! You're probably a kind, empathic, lovely person, as this is the type who often develops these issues after having been exposed to someone with a character disorder.

Don't ever beg a cheater to come back. You can do better. You aren't virtuous for trying to salvage or "saving the children" - the children too, deserve better even if this is their bio parent. Intrinsic locus of control, growth mindset, and an approach mindset to your environment. Don't avoid. Cheating also has a negative impact on children, not just divorce.

Thank you so much for this video. I've been battling depression for about two weeks. I recognize the triggers and have already implemented several of your suggestions: focus on good nutrition & not "comfort foods", keep up on the schedules for exercise & sleep, increase B & D vitamins, light therapy, & talk to trusted friends. If I still feel the need to seek counseling, I already know how to reach out for that help. My deepest sympathies for your loss. Sadly, one of my brothers took his life. No one in the family knew he was in such dire mental anguish, as he had isolated himself. I think it's part of the grieving process to also feel guilty that "if only we knew...." and perhaps we could have helped. I understand that there are at least three situations that are extremely stressful: a loss of a loved one in death, end of a marriage, and moving. It's good for us to be reminded that there is always help.

SUGAR intake is a HUGE contributor to depression. I can tell u as a sugar head who figured this out WITHOUT going to a doc/shrink/psychologist. It's the first thing a person should assess for themselves instead of running to a doctor who wants to pump u with meds. Like Dr. Hansen said, most of the time, depression meds don't work, and the fact that the he say patient got into a healtheir lifestyle, THAT sounds to have been the real reason she got better as she most likely dropped her sugar intake. My condolences to Dr. Hansen. While his sister's suicide was in the past, I know the feeling of being suicidal, A LOT, even as a child. Thankfully, eradicating sugar at a particular stretch in my life saved me. Best wishes.

@TreyIM22
@TreyIM22 10 ай бұрын
@mxn1171 More willpower, desire, and determination than anything else but understand, falling off the horse is part of the journey. Build your mind little by little to never let it get to u that u may have indulged again, and it ain't easy. Once that is built, u can progress more into not actually indulging, or if u do, it won't be a free fall. The more sugar u can eat, the more depressed, hopeless, and unmotivated u can become. Once it becomes a part of your thinking that not all is lost and u can and WILL bounce back while you're going thru the storm. That was how I started and believed in shoring up the mind to be the foundation. Your mind is who u are and if u don't work on learning about it and improving it, you're doomed to fail at beating whatever vices, bad habits or whatever u may have going on with yourself BUT there are.natural things u can consume and supplements that can help mitigate your blood sugar if u slip like cinnamon and ginger , potassium citrate, mulberry extract and berberine, among other things.Also, gymnema sylvestre and some other things can keep your cravings down.

During the period of Graves’ disease, the illness and the lack of income were the main cause of depression. The colourful rainbow of pills were prescribed and myGP asked me on every visit to recite the rainbow just to make sure I was compliant. Practically I was doped but in between doses I found my anguish, “I didn’t want to be like that… a zombie”, that was the time I used to google solutions like colouring and craft… my mind was busy while using my hands to create anything, as I was busy I forgot the medication until I was off. Not all cases need the same treatment, mine was solved by “using my hands to keep the mind out of the problems”. I’m free from the condition but I know my hands are my best treatment.

My condolences, Dr. Mike. I can't even imagine how difficult it must have been for you and your family. My sister has a schizophrenia diagnosis- and she's refusing treatment mainly because everyone is attacking her about how irresponsible she is because she isn't taking care of her children. She's isolated herself completely and because she lives in Austria, we can't technically do anything in terms of an intervention because of the law. They basically told us that we can't force her to get help unless she harms herself or attemps to harm someone else. It's really hard when you love someone but can't really do anything to help them.

BUT and soon as my PCP ran a thyroid test and proscribed meds for that, my depression went away immediately. Like someone turned the lights on in the room. Therefore, IMO a thyroid function test should be a FIRST item at the top of any doctors list who is treating depression. In fact, I advocate for everyone getting a thyroid function blood test. I don't remember a day that I went to school happy when I was studying for fear of stuttering and being laughed at. Now I'm in college and I'm days away from entering the public speaking class. For many this is a challenge but for me it is something that I literally see as impossible. My thoughts drain my energy and my anxiety takes control. I started doing exercises to fight anxiety and it worked but at times like these I just feel tired and exhausted. I'm still learning English and I'm afraid to express myself considering everything else. I try my best and I know that there will be people who will say that it is not such a big deal but I believe that if a problem is bothering you then it is a serious problem, whatever it is.

My parents trying to advice him to think deeply about his choice, but we respect his commitment, he said that lady need someone to look after her ,she deserved a man to love her. Praise God after a few years in marriage her wife mental health are getting better but still under medication. I can see how love and care from my brother and all of my family members help my brother's wife getting better. Her psychiatric doctor advice them to not have a child during her treatment. I pray that God give us strength and good understanding in dealing with those people with mental health issues 🙏🏻🙏🏻

I suffer from the depression up to now for almost two years since unemployment. Very often I got eating disorder and felt something anxiety as always when going outside. I decided to stay at home rather than going outside to meet my friends instead and there is day after the day. But luckily I really have no intention to suicide by myself. Hope everything changed after this period.

I first got really chronic depression after a girlfriend cheated on me with a former friend. I was battling with overthinking subconscious thoughts bombarding me when I said "I didn't feel like living" at the moment of pain. Which I didn't mean it in the literal sense. But I was dealing with retrusive thoughts from over thinking that gave me anxiety. Most of that came from childhood trauma from being yelled at for not doing things right.

I do not believe the story about the female patient. In fact, anyone who has major depression would know it isn't true. The only way it could be true is if she was just depressed but not really suffering from cliniical depresssion. You don't want to do all those things. You want to die. You described someone who slowly but surely experienced joy from various activities. True sufferers of major clinical depression know what would make them feel better but they dont want to feel better by doing those things because there is a deeper problem. We dont find interest or joy in anything. My eyes opened today about this whole subject of depression in my situation. I realized all the good times i experience involve the loss of memory. Drinking, benzos, cannabis,...every time in my life i have enjoyed involves my memory being destroyed or weakened. It doesn't take a genius to figure out i had been abused multiple times by different ppl before i was even 6 and that wasnt a new discovery...but the commonality of memory loss that threads through all my good times is sad. It is pathetic.

It took me a month to get an appointment. Saw therapist who took history and typed constantly into computer. Told me her appointment person would call me with an appointment scheduled in about 5 weeks. I called the office after waiting a month for an appointment. The appointment person said, "Oh, I forgot". I''d have to wait another 4-5 weeks for an appointment. FU !!!! is what I said. getting help is a joke, just like out justice system. I guess if I had better health insurance, more money and wasn't a senior, I'd be worthy of getting some help.

Human beings are basically insane we are committing every crime you could possibly imagine around the world. It is because of the avoidance of our psychological and emotional problems. Psychiatrists cannot help anyone because they are in capable of helping themselves with just one little psychological or emotional problem. And treating depression with medication just shows the ignorance of us all. Depression is nothing more than repressed anger. Let the anger out in a therapeutic way then you'll be no longer suffering from depression. Suicidal feelings are nothing more than repressed anger at yourself, release the anger in a therapeutic way, directing it away from yourself and you'll be free of these feelings. Jealousy, possessiveness, insecurity are nothing more than fear. Fear is a little bit more difficult to deal with but not impossible. But the human race is basically terrified of facing these problems. Thus the madness in the world.
