My dude, I fixed mine today. After 10 years. Everytime I would iron my clothes, I would pull the iron plug and the top part would pull with it. Was driving me CRAZY!! The top screw wasn't catching. I pulled off the face plate and used a slightly beefier screw to hold the plugs in. It worked!!! I'm beyond ecstatic. Such a simple fix.

Great solutions! Thanks... My issue is somewhat different. Yes, the smoke alarm pulls away from the ceiling. The j-box has dog ears to hold it into the ceiling for an interconnected smoke alarm system. After loosening the two adjacent screws holding the j-box I found both dog ears had been broken off... Who ever installed the box probable used an impact driver. Since the ceiling drywall is NOT damaged, i'll just install a new j-box. I'm glad it's easily fixed. Thanks again for your quality videos.

Black course thread drywall screws will usually work well, as their threads are wider. The wall plate will cover the slightly extended head of the drywall screw. Often times the more robust Phillips head of the drywall screw will tap into the box better than the flimsy soft head of the factory 6-32 machine screw head. This may not be code, but I've used it dozens of times. This is similar to the suggested wood screw fix, but much studier.

My metal J Box appeared to be stripped. I tested this out by inserting a new screw of the same size but a little longer and it was easy to pull out with my fingers. So I took a screw with larger threads and it worked like a charm.

Sometimes the plastic box itself is not flush with the wall, and is sagging as well, old work box supports will clip on the box, and crimp to the drywall when tightened to pull the box back into the wallboard.

@@mattlipkin1926hi, try this, I put a double socket + usb charging with a back back plate 'shelf' had the same problem one side of box loose on wall, I have extra long screws to compenate for the backplate, the 2 lugs that are in the electrical box act as some sort of retaining wedge when the two screws are tightened up, the 2 internal lugs need to be moved forward and you can see when you insert the retaining screws where the screws will go, you have to do the screws up so it pulls the the socket to the wall, you do a little bit on each screw so you do it evenly, this worked for me, please turn the electricity off that feeds the socket circuit, ...if those internal locating lugs stay to the back of the electrical box they are not doing their job to wedge the box in the wall, cheers

For the electrical box.. put a wood screw in there and its should hold... (on a plastic box) if the box is destroyed in anyway and you can tell. pull it out after shutting of the circuit and change the box. also it doesn't hurt to but in a GFCI receptacle in if your working on it anyway. code changed recently and its walking towards everything pretty much being GFCI and AFCI protected in residential

A course drywall screw works. Don't know if it's recommended but if definitely works
@stargazer7644
@stargazer7644 Жыл бұрын
The new code didn't expand the locations where GFCIs are required (basically outside, garages, basements and anything within 6 feet of water), they just no longer restrict it to 15 and 20A 120V outlets. You now have to put them on all 120 and 240V circuits in these locations. You really don't want random outlets in the house as GFCI. When they nuisance trip they kill all the outlets downstream and then you don't know where to look for the problem. If you're that worried about needing GFCI in your house, replace the breakers with GFCI breakers. At least then you'll know where to reset them up until you get fed up with them tripping and rip them out in a rage.

I used this for a normal size fridge. please kindly advice 🙏

Hi! Personally since it has come off the wall I would deem it UNSAFE, even if it’s not a high traffic outlet. I would turn the power OFF from the breaker and get the receptacle (outlet) fixed as soon as possible, please be safe 🙏🏽
