How To Fix Game Card Could Not Be Read Error on Hacked Switch OFW 9.0+ Running Atmosphere CFW 0.10.5

What's up guys! Thanks for joining me for another video. In this video, I go over the fix for those of you who have gotten the error "Game Card Could Not Be Read" after updating your hacked Nintendo Switch's firmware to 9.0 or higher.

Basically, Atmosphere's developer ScireM enabled a NOGC patch by default into your custom firmware which prevents your game card reader from being updated when you update your firmware without burning any lotus fuses. The reason for this is in case in the future, there is a way to do a cold/warm boot instead of using a payload injector on a lower firmware, you'll be able to take advantage of that exploit. For most people, using a payload injector in RCM mode is good enough so they just want to be able to use their game cartridge as well as homebrews. The NOGC patch makes it so that you don't get the error message that the game card could not be read since the patch prevents it from updating. If you decide that you want to use your game cards, then you'll have to update the firmware for the card reader.
Take note, if you update your card reader, you will only be able to use the game card reader on system with firmware below 9.0 after updating. That means if you downgrade to a firmware less than 9.0, the game card reader won't read properly anymore until you update back up to 9.0 or higher. Most people tend to want to stay on higher firmware since most new games will require the higher firmware but the choice is up to you. Just thought i give you the low-down before you try this fix.

Please Note: BCT.ini no longer exists, nogc configuration has been moved to /atmosphere/config/stratosphere.ini. If the file is not in config, check the config templates folder and copy and paste the stratosphere.ini file there. (please pin this so they all know)

I've seen a lot of people saying you have to change it under /config_template but it didn't work until I changed only /config or both /config_template and /config.

ok so do i undestand right? if i change the "Boot-flag", after i reboot: the cardreader will be updated and after that i can´t go below 9.0 and use the cardreader?

Hi Chris, that is correct. So the only disadvantage of this is that in the future, if they discover a way to boot directly into the CFW without having to go into RCM mode but it requires a lower firmware to enable that functionality, You can restore your nand backup to go back to the previous firmware but the Card Reader won't function as expected until you get that firmware to be above 9.0 again. I suspect this won't be the case but do what you think is best for you. For me personally, if I'm going to be using my card reader, most newer games might force you to be on a higher firmware anyways in order to run and so you'll indirectly won't be able to use your card readers for those new games. Also, I prefer to be on the latest supported firmware that works with Atmosphere and Sigpatches cause I'm able to play anything I want and still have homebrew but do what's best for you.

I updated atmosphere, the switch and the sigpatches but it couldnt read the game cards and i was terrified. Your video saved me. Hey so this worked for my EmuMMC but not for my Sysnand/EmuNAND. For example, I did this for my EmuMMC and it worked. But it doesn't affect my SysNAND or better explained, the clean version i play online games for. Can anyone help me?

After i alter the nogc=0, i inject payload and startup my switch and then pop up a notification request me to update some things or the game card wont be appear. After i select agree to update the screen went blank but not turning off. Please help

Hey friend, I didn't understand what you said in this video about turning bcnt. ini off, or on, but here's my Q. I have fw 10.1, and ams 0.14 the latest one. I'm getting that same error message when I put my game carts in will these work for what I got, and by the looks of it I have two of the bcnt.ini in two places.

hi, I have the same problem but different setting: - I have a mariko switch using SX core on 3.0.5 - Booting is possible if no GC is inserted. - My firmwares are in both possible booting ways ( Custom FW and Original FW in SX starting Menu) 10.1.0 has anyone time and hopefully fun to explain those things to me ? :) Great video anyway ! I will as soon as possible change to Atmopsphere but would love to have the starting point for this on a "clean" outgoing point. greetings.

It'd be better to keep the patch. I forgot that the cfw patched it for security reasons. Because other people use my switch sometimes ,like kids etc.

Does this still work in 2022? My Switch also shows this error but isn't hacked yet. Replacing the Game Cartridge Slot didn't help...

Sounds suspect. This fix was for hacked switch on the curtain l version of firmware that it was made for. This doesn't work on current version of atmosphere. I'll make a new video on current version once I find some time. Been super busy.

I think you should be ok. I think it's the major version updates that will prevent you from playing your game cart on an older firmware. Please consider subscribing if I've been helpful.

Not sure but you can just create the file with notepad. Try scanning all your folders to see if it's somewhere else in the folder structure.
