There is a tech service bulletin that Honda put out to address this specific issue (18-097). It mostly happens on dual handle chargers, when power quality might fluctuate depending on use. The update to battery charging software which dealer can push will address this issue. Please don't waste time with battery cables hack, the solution is the software. Good luck all.

Thank you for the video. I followed your video and disconnected, reconnected the negative but unfortunately it didn’t work for me. My charging system still shows range limited and wouldn’t charge. So I’m gonna bring to dealership and do a scan. Hopefully it’s nothing major.

Smart choice Li to disconnect the 12v battery. We all have to bear in mind that the Clarity is in essents a computer on wheels. Just like your desktop, reboots can solve a lot of problems. Honda had to build battery disconnect protection/recovery since battery failure/replace is inevitable.

My car had the same warning message but it went away after a few days. I think the sensors detected the problem went away, so it cleared the check engine light. I don’t recommend resetting the ECU by removing the screw terminals from the battery on a car with some many batteries. You can short something that you might not be aware of.

Did you reference the manual? Usually they help you troubleshoot. I am looking at get the Clarity, would you recommend the vehicle? How is your commute of 30 miles each way, how much fuel do you use? I have a similar commute, trying to get an idea.

A battery replacement requires a couple miles of actual driving so all lights reset.
