hmm seems like a good time for new terminals, but if i had to I'd put something like copper sheet metal or something with good conductivity around terminal and you sure don't want that nail to stick up and hit the hood.

It's good that you switched out the original nails for shorter nails (ask me why). Still a REALLY bad "idea", except in an emergency (and, even in an emergency..... if you don't know what you're doing)
