MacBook Pro Trackpad and Keyboard Issue (Fix!)
I’m teaching last week and my trusty MacBook freezes and won’t allow me to use my track pad or any of the keys... I still had one more class to go and I didn’t have time to go to Apple and replace the part, so I had to use my ingenuity ASAP! After scouring the internet for about 20 mins, I was unable to find a “quick fix” so I started getting “hands-on” in a desperate attempt to fix the track-pad/ Keyboard. At some point I decided to plug my classroom projector into the hdmi port as I reset my computer and “viola”! It worked! Not sure exactly how or whether or not it will work for you, but if you are desperate and need a quick fix, it wouldn’t hurt to try, right? Please lmk if you know why this does work or if it helped. (Shout out to all my teachers out there helping shape the world. (Hopefully for the better) And if you aren’t a teacher 👩‍🏫 👨‍🏫, I still hope you find this useful! Peace ✌️ and positivity!B

After being on with Apple for 3 hours I found a KZfaq video with the least complicated solution of all the KZfaq videos. plug in an hdmi. Turn it off. Turn it on. And unplug hdmi. And now my mouse and keyboard works again. Man is a wizard

This worked for me with my 2015 MacBook pro. Took 3 tries re-starting computer hooked up to my TV through an HDMI. Keyboard and trackpad started working again after unsuccessfully trying all the other recommended resets online. Thanks so much!!

A quick update here easier. ( cheap way ) When you power on press left CMD button and hold until screen comes on. From that moment the keyboard and mouse should work

Just press Ctrl+Alt+PowerButton+Shift, if that doesnt work then press Shift+Control+Option for more than 15 times. This issue has been on my laptop before, it's been working for a few days now! :D

It worked! But I needed to restart my Macbook Pro Retina Mid 2014 three times with the HDMI cable connected to the TV 👍🏼

guys, it's not a hardware problem but a software issue Alt+Comand+R+P reset, turned off Bluetooth, and changed my resolution to normal FIXED!! No more stuttering as well while scrolling.

Actually, it was. It was a track pad sensor that was faulty. Ultimately it cost me $80 to replace because this method no longer worked after about 3 months. I appreciate the post. Maybe you can make a tutorial not stuttering and I’ll repost your link. Hope you and your family are safe and well during this time.

Hey Ken. This worked as of right now. Guys the message about external keyboard must present itself while reseting. I used hdmi on veon TV. Any questions I will answer.

I'm guessing here but I think it's got something to do with a failed no installed apple update this plugging into the port causes of forces the laptop and update software to run again but successfully install the hi etc hardware update that's failing is my guess just cuz of how it works essentially. But another person said they saw an update screen that finished after this and it fixed hers

Raj kumar Connect it to HDMI cable and restart. That should work. Just follow the instructions in the video.

Step 1: Get an hdmi cord that’s plugged into a device: tv, projected, PlayStation, etc... Step 2: power off Step 3: turn power on, while moving finger on track pad. 4: If nothing happens, try unplugging hdmi and plugging in while computer is loading. If none of these thing work, it might be another issue.

You’re welcome. This was only a tempo fix for me. After a few more moths, the trackpad sensor ultimately died and needed to be replaced. It cost me $80 to replace the trackpad through Apple.

It finally broke and cost me 80$ to fix at the apple store. It was a trackpad sensor issue or something to that effect. This is only a temporary fix. Sorry. 😐

Juan Quiroz It was a “track pad sensor” issue according to the APPLE employee who I took it to. It cost 80$ to replace. The hdmi trick was a temporary fix until my computer failed completely. After reading these posts, I think cleaning the ports may be a possible solution? But again, I am not 100%. Thanks for the reply. I hope it was useful. 👍

Yea, I’m not sure either. But I know it worked for me. I’m glad it is helping people. Just FYI, this was only a temporary fix. I kept doing it until my trackpad sensor completely stopped working. It ended up costing me $80 to replace the trackpad sensor from Apple. There are videos online where you could purchase the pieces and replace yourself if you have the time and resources. Omg this has happened to my MacBook Pro I think, when I tapped on the trackpad it clicked but then I couldn’t move the mouse and it was frozen and the buttons wont work and also the apple light at the back and the screen stays on, idk what happened but please reply to this and tell me what to do bc I’m clueless Rn
