WARNING! Attempt at your own risk! This video is not a solution for all bearing fitment issues as every situation and circumstance is different for everyone. So take this tutorial, guide, etc with a grain of salt.
What got me to really take a closer look at this issue was due to many people posting on forums and FB about quality control on certain yoyo brands or other issues such as vibe for example.
I can make a video about this discussion if you like, but I'm just going to cover bearing fitment issues. I bought a few yoyos that I encountered this in the last few months and I had to return one where I was surprised that it occurred as it's from a brand that has never let me down. I then saw a post on FB recently about someone stripping the thread of the yoyo...which is pretty catastrophic and usually means it is damage beyond or requires extensive repair. When this issue happened to me again, it made me wonder what would cause this, so instead of returning the yoyo, I dug deeper to figure it out.
I've concluded that most metal (aluminum, bimetal, etc) yoyos I've purchased get machined which means there will always have tolerances since it is part of the manufacturing process. I eventually pin pointed this common issue to be the seat where the bearing rests on.
I hope you like this video or find it informative. As mentioned be cautious as this can potentially ruin your yoyo. if you have any comments or question please let me know.

@@Steve-vl1uz Thank you! So this is a very good question. I have a few yoyos that has very loose bearing seats. Unfortunately I haven't found a solution or remedy for this yet. I've been playing with different materials that I one can find around the house that won't damage the yoyo. But when i do find a solution, I'll definitely cover it in a video. The biggest worry is, even if I do find one, this has a very high possibility to introduce major vibe on the yoyo.

@@YAPYOYO This is a great video and next yo-yo in that case i will try it on. I've had success with using loctite and putting it with loctire red in the side that was given me an issue. I assumed that this would not last too long, but then I ended up having yo'yos still working with it today and it's been years. Obviously, once you do it, it's pretty much stuck there, unless you use loctite blue, but i always use red for strength. I love how yo-yo is basically a DIY hobby and we learn from each other. My advice to anyone who might read this, before doing anything, try seeing if another axle works first. Might just be a busted axle. Death to carbon (the black ones that feel brittle) axles!

I may need some more details. Is it quiet when it spins? How different of a sound is it compared to your other yoyos? Usually a quieter bearing could possibly be a lubed (lubricated) bearing, but certain sounds can differ slightly but be different reasons.

@@DexChoi. Honestly, when the bearing can be easily removed by hand rarely poses a significant problem. It may slightly cause vibe, but rarely to the point where it affects the way it plays. Usually when the bearing seat is too tight, when the bearing is removed and then "tried" to be put back, it sometimes may not align properly which can potentially cause permanent damage as you tighten the yoyo.

I received a nsk platinum kincave bearing and it was a tight fit on my magic yoyo v-10. It played great for about 2 days and then it went haywire, i took it apart and noticed extreme scratches/scoring on the bearing aeat, as well as a scratch running the inside ring of my new bearing. Not dure what the issue was but maybe it was just a bunk bearing.

Having the EXACT same problem on the aceyo amusing. Their bearing seats seem to be manufactured to the wrong tolerances. Their stock bearing fits extremely tight onto the bearing seat, whereas generic concave bearings tend to have a loose fit. I have no idea how the messed it up like this. Got the amusing, was glass smooth for the first few days. As I took the bearing on and off for cleaning I found that the bearing seat was too tight, and there is A LOT of powdered metal near the bearing post (never a good sign). After a couple days the bearing seat got ruined from the tight bearing and now the yoyo vibes even if I clean everything and try new axles and bearings. Funny thing is I've seen a customer review on taobao talking about aceyo having poor QC on the bearing seat, and also seen some comments on bilibili (China's version of youtube) straight up saying aceyo has trash QC in general. Yet I decided to give aceyo a chance and got the amusing. Will be my first and last aceyo. Not amused.

@YAPYOYO 3 жыл бұрын
Aww, that's very unfortunate to hear. I also got a Amuse...getting a second one (a little of a long story). But It's very hard to pin point an issue to be QC because there can be so many factors that can affect a yoyo besides after initial usage. I actually first experimented this mod (if you can call it a mod) with one of my MYY Node. My first encounter with the issue is when I bought a used Duncan Windrunner, but it was due to the result of an over tightening where the axle started to tear through the threads of the yoyo, so that throw is totally dead unless I retap it which would be too much work. So with my Node (you might see it on one of my "learning as I Yo" videos), it was silky smooth at first. But I started to take the yoyo apart for cleanings and etc and noticed that the bearing seat was tight as heck and noticed that vibe started to occur. Not thinking anything other than "Oh it may have been a QC issue", I started to tighten the yoyo slowly and noticed, "whoa...it's not tightening properly", I stopped tightening it and put on my engineering hat since I did go to school for it. =P Found out that the issue was slightly thicker bearing seat. Possibly by manufacturing tolerance issue, ano...etc? So I sanded it a little...actually a little too much, and it definitely corrected the vibe. Not entirely fixed it because I think I further damaged the threads slightly. But nevertheless, it was salvageable since I still use it as one of my EDC. So fast forward to this Gravitation 3, right when I unscrewed it during my unboxing video, I noticed how tight the seat is. I just went into recording myself doing my sanding. If it didn't work, I wouldn't have uploaded this video. But it worked for me and this time I didn't over sand it thankfully. I'm sorry to hear that AceYo will not be a future brand you'll own but I would totally understand. whoops...this reply ended up being really long. =P

@@YAPYOYO No biggie about the long reply. Your insight is great for a newer player like me. Yeah I guess it's hard to call it a QC issue since it was vibesless ootb. But between seeing the comments from other sources and now watching your vid on the gravitation 3, I'm kinda having a hunch that aceyo does have wacky bearing seats. It was a total bummer for me as I was really looking forward to owning the Amusing. But oh well, guess I'll just take it as a learning experience. I'll keep this video in mind if I ever get a yoyo with a tight bearing seat.

@@YAPYOYO It has been a few days and I'm confident that I've found the issue behind my Aceyo. I got the Raw version of the amusing and after some digging around in yoyo forums, its seems like the raw aluminum has galled to the stainless steel bearing. It happens when 2 different metals are pushed together tightly. Didn't even know that galling is a thing. Guess I should stick with anodized yoyos in the future. Anyway, I'm still a beginner so idk what kinda suggestions to give haha. Given your engineering background, perhaps you could do a video on all the physics going on in a yoyo? I got a bunch of yoyos like a ton of em and in my collection is my favorite yoyos of all time the iconic SuperYo Sonic spin which comes stock with a Hybrid bearing it's a plastic case steel ball / ball bearing makes a very unique buzz noise when it sleeps and it will sleep for a long long time put it this way its basically a looper style yoyo that can sleep as long or longer than modern yoyos with Concave and center track bearings yet it's perfectly balance between sleeping and responsive you can do loop tricks easily and loopers easily n throw it down n it'll sleep 3+ mins no issues. It's a amazing yoyo can do basically anything thrown at it. N I got like 9 of em ATM. N recently bought a few more. And one of em came with the Red plastic bearing which 99% of em come with blue plastic bearings and blue/white plastic bearings all of em are hybrid plastic/steel. Anyway their a odd size.. a specialty size called size H which are same outter diameter as a C but has a smaller inner diameter and slightly wider than a responsive C bearing but slightly thinner than a unresponsive concave... And you can't find the replacement bearings for em anymore. They discontinued the yoyo in 2003 2005 era and super yo made that bearing only for the sonic spin 1 and 2 and the Superyo invader.. no other yoyo came with these bearings... N one of em came with a shot bearing it's in bad shape I tried cleaning it multiple times with acetone with no luck it's basically lop sided with the inner part so the inner part of the bearing case rubs up on the upper / outter casing. Causing it to spin badly n get hung ect.... So now I'm trying to figure out how to repair it or replace it with another yoyo bearing that will actually fit.. the only one so far that works but it hardly works is the C its outter diameter is basically perfect but it's inner is to large by a smidge... You got any suggestions??? You prob have a sonic spin or had one so you may know what I'm talking about.. their special bearings n finding a replacement is impossible and finding something to work in its place is ridiculously hard lol

@YAPYOYO 2 жыл бұрын
First, yes I remember the Sonic Spin by SuperYo. I unfortunately never owned one but I had friends who did so I do know what kind of bearing you're talking about. In regards to finding a replacement bearing for a Sonic Spin, unfortunately I do not have one where I can experiment with but the size almost looks like a Size C non responsive. I'll be making a video soon to see if an idea I have will work for bearings that have a slightly bigger inner diameter. I think the most important part is as long as the halves of the yoyo has something that can hold that inner ring properly. Sorry if I'm unable to help much on this, but I do know which yoyo you're talking about.
@bulldogtonyyt1116
@bulldogtonyyt1116 2 жыл бұрын
I have an idea that could potentially fix the problem, by using a type C, place it so that it's perfectly centered in the yoyo seat, now if you're yoyo is plastic this should work exceptionally better, but if it's a metal yoyo you may want to rough up the inner bearing seat where the inner bearing touches the yoyo with some very fine steel wool or scotch bright pad! Now get yourself some two part resin epoxy, take your axel and spray it with a thin coat of Rem oil or WD-40, also give the inner ring of the bearing a thin coat, this will act as a non stick barrier kinda like butter in a cake pan! Make sure the bearing seat is clean and dry and don't let any of the oil get on it! Seat the bearing and fill in the inner portion of the type C bearing with a small amount of the epoxy and let it dry, make sure you mix it well before applying! You should be able to remove both the bearing and axel after the epoxy dries and then you will need to file down the epoxy even with the center of the yoyo bearing seat! Now you should have a small ring of epoxy around the yoyo seat that should fill in the larger area of the type C bearing! You will need to do both half's of the yoyo, also make sure you clean off any small burrs of the epoxy, you could also go as far as polishing the epoxy for a smooth finish with the fine steel wool! As long as the type C matches the thickness of the type H, it should work, and I would pop a new type C in there just to be safe the bearing has no epoxy in it! Give the bearing a good spin on both half's if possible to make sure it's not touching the outside of the bearing seat! Hope this helps and if you're not to sure what I mean, just reply back to me and I'll try to explain further or come up with another idea! The just of it is to add a small portion of material to the inner seat of the yoyo to fill in the gap of the larger inner diameter of the type C bearing, but also make sure to keep the bearing as centered as possible to keep the outer ring of the bearing from rubbing on the yoyo! It's a delicate process and if it's to much to do, then maybe think about shelving the yoyo as a display of some type since you seem to have quite a few of them! Good luck! 🤞

I'm going to assume the this circle pieces you are talking about when you open your K1 are the rubber rings that surrounds the bearing. @@Yoyohan175 OK, I think I may know what happened. Sadly it sounds like the bearing seat (for the K1 it's made from plastic, the same material as the body) may have broken apart. Because the circle or bearing seat is a circular shape and is slightly smaller than the bearing itself. If you keep on spinning it and it doesn't tighten, and if you see any cracks inside the body of the yoyo near the axle, there's a high chance that the nut holding the axle may have broken loose from it's plastic body.

I'm going to assume this is where your screw doesn't have the hex opening that is accessible. These can be tricky to remove because it can potentially damage the "screw" (it's technically a threaded shaft). This has happened to me and what I do to remove it is wrap the screw with a thin cloth. I use a needle nose plier and grip the screw with the cloth carefully and I'll carefully try to unscrew it. I'm careful with how hard I grip as this can potentially damage the screw. So please be very careful with trying to remove it. I also try to make sure that I have extra screws just in case I damage the one I removed. I hope this helps.

So I'm assuming you mean that when you tighten your yoyo, it doesn't stay tight and gets loose. This can be caused by a few things. First you must NEVER over tighten your yoyo because the axle can strip the threads of the yoyo. You usually would first contact the company you purchased your yoyo from or from the manufacturer as some yoyos may have slight issues where it doesn't stay tight. One that I would not suggest as it has risks is applying a small amount of thread locker. But be aware that thread locker is intended so that you will have a tough time to take it apart.
