I have 2 older Black & Decker cordless drills, one in 9 volt, and one in 14 Volt. Both have stuck Chuck!
This 5-minute video will show you how to un-jam in two simple ways
1. Using 2 pliers
2. Loosening the Chuck first and using 2 pliers to un-ham the chucks
I hope you guys find this useful in your drill!
Thanks

Thank you so much! First suggestion did the trick. Only had to use one wrench for the chuck, twisted the other part, by hand. Black+Decker Model: LDX120

FYI...That takes a Torx wrench for the chuck bolt, not a hex, and it's called a Left hand thread. You're using Channelock pliers. When removing the chuck and gripping I would recommend not gripping on the grooved keys you could break them or "booger" them up . the part that fits into the black rubber grip has two flat edges I would grip on that. Also, a vice would help immensely in performing this action. . You should also mention you have the clutch set to 1, so people don't put it on drill or a high setting . Good luck out there.

Life saver. I've got a Craftsman 19.2 that locked when it went to full open however even my death grip hands couldn't get over the thread end back onto the mechanism or whatever they got setup inside. Couldn't find a thin enough wrench to slide in between the adjustable torque piece and the 2nd of 2 adjustable front pieces. Now I can mount these 2 ceiling mount heaters in the garage which will get me through the winter and allow me to continue my projects.

Thanks! I didn’t have a large wrench so I used a small strap wrench on the bottom and used my hand on the top. Came loose pretty easily.

Worked great on my 20v B&D. The hex screw was 9/64 US then when I got the chuck off, a pliers top and bottom a little twist and 'pop' the jaws started working again I did not have to disassemble the chuck. 😊 thanks for the help,

How do I add 10 likes?!!! OMG, I am so glad I found this walk-though after throwing away one such 20V device (by e-waste recycling), and my new one got stuck after a single month of moderate use! I was upset at Black and Decker for making these silly products, but not anymore - just needs a trick to keep it going. Thank you!!!

Upgraded from an older 18v kit. kzfaq.infoUgkxW1vOBRCMrgTCDEijzpVzDWsgI-Jm2iQv I independently chose the drill and impact tool, before I came across the kit.I like the 3 speed impact gun. It seems more powerful than my older one, and it can be set to be really gentle. The drill is more appropriately sized for my use. I used to have a hammer drill, but I did not like that it was so big and it was not a great hammer drill. I rather have a smaller drill like this, and then get a corded hammer drill for the odd case I need that.

I have a 20v which appears to be the same as the 14v. Try as I might, I cannot break loose the screw that's holding the chuck assembly on the drill. I will look for a bigger wrench or screwdriver that I can add more torque.

Thank you SO MUCH!!! Yesterday my B&D 18V drill was working & today as I was getting ready to fix the lock for my front door, the chuck was totally jammed. The first trick did the job. Would using WD40 oil inside the chuck maybe once a month be a good idea to prevent jamming in the future?? Thanks again.

I don't know what's wrong with mine but when I pull the trigger it just turns on its light but doesn't do anything else. Also the chuck is siezed. If I were to free the chuck would it actually restore the drill's functionality? I don't know but I'll try.

Nice video, I just wanted to say that black+decker tools are some of the worst I've used in my (short) life. The handles are extremely uncofortable, the mashines seem to be very unprecize (stich saw) and my drill was blocked when i bought it... Bosh for the win 100%

Does not work for 18v black & decker chuck. After removing with torx bit, chuck won't separate from drill. If anyone has had luck please let me know.

That was cool the way you pointed out that is a torx, not a hex. Most people would have been rude and insulting, after looking us something because they did know everything. Good for you. By the way, my Porter cable bis still stuck too. Trying this next.
