Ethereum gas fees are high and you may encounter "stuck" transactions when interacting with the Ethereum network. It is important to understand how to resolve "stuck" or "pending" transactions. In this video, I create an unsuccessful Ethereum transaction to show you how to resolve it.

I don't have a video explaining purchase price in Etherscan but I will do my best to explain how to find it. So if you go to your MetaMask -> select Activity tab -> select the transaction you are interested in-> click "view transaction on etherscan (arrow at the top right)" -> on this page you will see "Value" and "Ether price". Value represents the cost or value sent in the transaction represented in ETH. Ether price is the price of ETH at the time of transaction. If you select "Click to see more" you can also see the gas prices paid for the transaction. I hope this helps you!

If you go to your etherscan, check your transaction log and look for "pending" transactions. If you don't have any "pending" transactions you are good.

Nice. this fixed my issue I was having. Any idea why I cant see all my transactions on metamask now tho? i noticed it happened to you as well. I can only see money I've sent to the wallet. I ideally would like to see money going out of the wallet as well.

If you reset your MetaMask then you won't see the recent transactions. You can always go to Etherscan and look at your transactions though so its not a problem.

Im having a problem with something similar. I reset my wallet as you showed, went to go swap WETH to MC again (Merrit Circle) and when I open up the etherscan it says "Fail with error "too little received". When I go into Metamask it says "Exact Input Single" in red under activity. Any ideas on what this is? Its incredibly frustrating.

Sometimes resetting the MetaMask works. Other times you need to knock out the transaction using the Nonce as mentioned in the video. I am not familiar using the Harmony network. Good luck! I have heard about DFK, I will check it out! Maybe check with DFK discord if they have any advice?

when you said you are sending the transaction to yourself for the replacement, the etherscan page you showed had different addresses for from and to. shouldn't that match if you are sending to yoursellf ? Also, when we use the advanced controls, is the gas limit already set by metamask?

Hey, Ashok! I have multiple MetaMask accounts which is why you are seeing different addresses for from and to. To make another account you simply click the icon at the top right, create account, then name the new account. Also, when you do the advanced controls, the gas limit is already set based on the current congestion of the network as determined by MetaMask.

Hey, this video def helped me understand some things. But I am still having trouble getting the hang of this for some reason, I know the network is really congested and gas fees are very high at the moment. I created a tx to withdraw SLP from ronin to metamask, and I paid my gas fees right around the "slow" recommended ranged ($88 USD of ETH) it has been 17 hours and the tx is still pending, what would you recommend I do? Thank you for any advice/help I could really use it

When fixing a stuck transaction, I recommend using normal or fast. When withdrawing from Ronin to MetaMask, I believe that the bridge requests not to adjust the gas fee so usually I just eat the high gas fee if i must go that route. Since you selected slow, you will need to wait it out. The issue is, if you select slow and then the fees keep going higher and higher, then your transaction keeps getting pushed further and further out until gas fees come down since it is truly a bidding mechanism for miners attention. The Ethereum gas fees are higher now than I have ever seen. For the future, my advice is to watch etherscan.io/gastracker and and axie.live, avoid ethereum network until the network congestion calms down. I would not even consider exchanging anything on ETH with gas fee above 100 gwei.

It must be from the 1st pending transaction. You may need to open your etherscan and scroll down to find the 1st pending transaction, you may have several.

Any luck now? Sometimes waiting for the network to catch the transaction helps. Did you find the nonce of the first pending stuck transaction? And when you pay the gas fee to unstuck the transaction, make sure you stick with the recommended gas fee.

This is tough. You need to buy more ETH or wait until gas fees are cheaper. Its the unfortunate reality of a overcrowded congested ethereum network. I cannot recommend using ethereum network at this time.

Out of all of the videos on KZfaq that I have seen for cancelling a stuck transaction, everyone seems to leave out one important fact; not only do you have to use the same nonce that you want to cancel out, But you also have to set the priority fee one higher than the one used or else you keep getting an error message that states: replacement transaction underpriced. I used a lower gas price and it still went through. I was able to replace it by sending 0.02 cents from my ethereum wallet address back to my ethereum wallet address using the same nonce number of the stuck transaction. Again, you must use a higher priority fee.

I believe in the video I stated to use the default fee when replacing the stuck transaction, the assumption being that the max priority fee set in the original transaction was low (trying to save on gas fee) and when replacing the transaction a higher fee should be used. I think the logic of using a lower fee to replace an already stuck transaction isn't sensible.

Thanks for the video. Could you kindly let me know how to solve a dropped and replaced tx? I did a withdrawal from an exchance LCX 24 hours ago and never reached my Metamask wallet. If you withdrew from an exchange, the entire process of securing assets is through the exchange so must await assistance from them. I have personally never used LCX nor can attest to their legitimacy.

I need to cancel a transaction in order to complete a queued withdrawal. Can you tell me what's the difference between your solution (custom nonce) and just clicking the"cancel" button in Metamask. Which one would you recommend and why? And what about this "priority fee one higher" advice Edward Romo keeps posting in the comments here? Is he right? Thank you so much. The cancel function in MetaMask is not functional in my experience. Unfortunately, I cannot explain the details between the two options as I am not sure how MetaMask operates their "cancel" function. I would recommend replacing the nonce with a new transaction. Here are a couple of articles if you also need to see written explanations: blog.chronologic.network/how-to-change-and-reset-your-nonce-in-metamask-f7ca52f480e5 metamask.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360015489251-How-to-speed-up-or-cancel-a-pending-transaction Edward Romo is saying that essentially, the replacement transaction must have a higher priority fee than the original transaction. Are you swapping wETH for ETH? You need to have ETH to pay for the transaction. Otherwise, you must wait until gas fees are lower and pay when you can afford the gas fee. Good luck!!

I'm not quite sure I understand. So your previously pending transaction "went off your account" meaning the transaction was approved and sent? It's possible that your transaction was executed while you were conducting this process.

You make need to add the token to MetaMask. Go to Coingecko, search for the coin of interest, click the metamask symbol and it will add the token to your MetaMask wallet.

@Allan Ryan Hi Allan, I have a pending transaction because of low gas fee. I tried to speed it up but it is still pending. The NFT i wanted to buy had been sold to other. I can see that my transaction is still pending in my Metamask. There was a cancel button but it wont cancel it. So I went ahead and reset my Metamask. It clear the pending transaction on my Metamask. However, on the etherscan, the original transaction is still showing as pending. I tried to send myself a 0 eth with the same nouce of the pending transaction, but it failed. What do I do now? Do I have still have issue if my etherscan still have 1 pending transaction that is stuck? Also, because the NFT i wanted to buy has been bought by someone, do I still need to cancel this pending transaction? Thanks for your help.

The "speed up" and "cancel" function should always be avoided in MetaMask. In my experience it never resolved the transaction. If you tried to send 0 ETH to yourself to knock out the transaction, you must pay "enough" gas to allow it to knock out the original transaction. Make sure you are using the correct nonce. Also, make sure you are knocking out the lowest number nonce pending in transaction list on etherscan. As for your NFT that you are sending, it sounds like you will need to conduct a new transaction after you resolve the stuck pending transaction. Good luck!!

Hey, i knocked out a txn with the lowest nonce, does that mean the two other txn with higher nonces will get knocked aswell?

Correct. Knocking out the lowest nonce resolves the other pending transactions upstream. Make sure you double check your etherscan to confirm there are no other "pending" transactions.

When you say cancelled SLP, do you mean you were sending a transaction and then cancelled it? Once you start a transaction on Ronin bridge, do not cancel it, your assets may be lost forever. You may need to reach out to Axie support in discord.

When you swap your coins on Uniswap or Shibaswap, is it possible that you just haven't added the new token contract details to your MetaMask wallet? In certain situations, you need to add contract details to your MetaMask to "view" your new tokens.

Hi, I tried to follow your video but I’m still having issues. I have a pending transaction that I tried to cancel but now it’s stuck pending cancellation. I tried to reset my MetaMask wallet and so the ending 0 eth to myself with the same nonce but the transaction just says failed. The transaction is on etherscan. Any ideas?

Did you recheck it now? You want to pay close attention to etherscan.io/gastracker and don't try to knock this transaction out when gas fees are high otherwise you will pay a massive gas fee.

Does it matter what kind of transaction is stuck? Or just by using the same nonce with the send transaction you kick out any type of transaction?

It should not matter what kind of transaction is stuck. You just use the same nonce, or if you did multiple failed (pending) transactions, use the first nonce. Good luck!!

Hello Mr Rayn Thank you for time and effort doing this videos. I hope you will have time see my comment and also have the time to respond , because I am despaired. I have got stuck transaction for the last week or so.I have been trying to do 0 ETH transaction multiple times but unfortunately not successfully.I am doing everything according to your video and many other videos.I have been reading and watching hundreds of videos and articles and would say I am doing everything accordingly. So as soon I try to replace the stuck transaction , the 0 ETH transaction goes to failed straight away and nothing changes.The stuck transaction still appears as pending. I will be very grateful if you Mr. Rayn or any of you guys help. Thank you in advance

I understand how frustating that can be. Follow the first part of my video to "reset" your MetaMask wallet. Then look at the etherscan to see how many "pending" transactions there are. You need to identify the nonce of the first stuck pending transaction. Then you need to send 0 eth transaction using that first particular nonce that was stuck. Check gasnow.org to make sure you are NOT doing it at a time when gas fees are crazy high. Good luck!!

@@AllanRyan Yes - I tried all such options. At the moment, every time I try to make a replacement transaction, nothing happens. There is no confirmation of my Ledger wallet at all, and the transaction immediately goes failed.

I didn't realize you were dealing with Ledger wallet. I personally don't have experience with Ledger wallet but I have heard that you may need to go to ledger live and updated your wallet, then go to your Ethereum app, reenable "contract data". I think there may be problems with your transactions from the Ledger side. Hopefully this solves the problem!! Otherwise, you may need to contact Ledger for support.

Are you using hardware wallets like Ledger or Trezor? Are you adjusting gas limit (don't adjust gas limit).

Hi - this is not working for me. Please, please help. I was sending something to another wallet and then it didnt go through to so I tried staking which is showing pending and then I tried cancelling which is in queue.. I tried via nonce route and it is in the queue too. How do I resolve this? I am also unable to see the arrow which takes to view transaction on etherscan

The cancel function in MetaMask is not functional in my experience. I am not sure how MetaMask operates their "cancel" function. I would recommend replacing the nonce with a new transaction. Here are a couple of articles if you also need to see written explanations: blog.chronologic.network/how-to-change-and-reset-your-nonce-in-metamask-f7ca52f480e5 metamask.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360015489251-How-to-speed-up-or-cancel-a-pending-transaction The replacement transaction must have a higher priority fee than the original transaction. Make sure you also are replacing the first nonce that is pending.

Are you using the first nonce that is pending? Are you paying more than the original gas fee sent? Are you checking scan.io/gastracker prior to attempting this to make sure you are doing it at a time when gas fees are low? Did you reset your MetaMask?

Hello. I was swapping AVAX to TIME on Trader Joe's using my Metamask. It has been pending for over 24 hours. I paid higher gas to speed up transaction but then that new one was pending. So I hit cancel and had to pay a gas. I was under the impression that the latest transaction I did, if I set a higher gas fee, would just cancel the previous transactions in my que. Is this accurate? So now in my Que it has 6 activities. 5 of them are queed and one has pending next to it which is the speed up. I'm just really confused at this point. I have enough AVAX to cover the gas so I don't know why it's not going through. Even if I'm doing AVAX as the gas fee and using the Avalanche Network do I still have to have a certain amount of Ethereum on Metamask? Thanks

i don't use "speed up" function because essentially this process is a "drop and replace" which usually is delayed, buggy, and overall I have had poor experiences with it. I have never used Trader Joe's so i'm not sure how much of this is on their end? You may also contact their support if they have it. It sounds like you have multiple stuck transactions. Follow the steps in your video including resetting your MetaMask. I think you may also need to contact Trader Joe's support. Otherwise you need to replace your first nonce of the stuck transaction and it should resolve everything.

@@AllanRyan Well yeah I guess I will have to reset MetaMask. I was just a little skeptical about it. But it's been days and still stuck. I tried to insert the previous nonce like the video but the new transactions all have new nonce's each time I tried but they are the ones in que. The initial one that has the pending still has the original nonce which is 4. LOL idk. I guess I will try Trader Joe's and I won't hit speed up again. Thanks for responding!

Your assets should be available on MetaMask if transaction was received. Make sure you are on Ethereum Mainnet.

If you cancel the transaction you will lose the gas fee. It will not go back into your wallet.

@@raydioactiveraymund3732 The actual ETH that you were intending to transfer from your Ronin wallet will be untouched. Essentially, a failed transaction means that no transaction occurred and therefore your original ETH remains in your Ronin wallet despite wasting the gas fee. Occasionally, the transaction will occur at a much later date/time once the congestion of the Ethereum network resolves.

Unfortunately, I think Axie has a holding account for transactions that are initiated. In the Ronin bridge I believe they state, not to lower the gas fee for this reason. I believe that your wETH is stuck in the process of getting unwrapped to ETH but before the process that is sent to your MetaMask. You may need to reach out to Axie Infinity discord support to ask them if they can assist.

Hi Allan I am having issues with my transaction. I transfer eth from my Coinbase account into my Metamask wallet. Transaction went through and shows received eth, however it did not appear or unleash my balance. I did everything to fix the problem but I am not having any luck with it. Hey Joyce!! Double check the send address of your ETH to make sure it is the same address that you have in your possession. Also, there may be a long delay between sending and receiving lately given the congestion of the Ethereum network. You may also reach out to Coinbase to see if they can help you. If you follow the steps in the video that should give you a pretty good starting point on how to fix the stuck transaction. You should restart MetaMask and then replace the first nonce that is stuck.

I sent some ETH to another address and it has been stuck for almost 2 weeks already. the ETH was deducted from my metamask and the transaction shows pending in my wallet activity. Will this method solve my problem? I want to cancel the transaction and get the ETH back to my wallet. thanks

You may have tried to send ETH at a time when ETH gas prices were high. I recommend to always check etherscan.io/gastracker prior to making any transactions on the ethereum network. Lately we have been dealing with massive hype cycles for new projects that mint on Ethereum, sometimes even spiking the gas above 1000 gwei! Make sure you follow the instructions I guide step through step in the video. You won't ever get the gas fees back but at least the amount you were sending should remain in your wallet. Also, your MetaMask account is frozen until you fix the pending transaction.

Leaving the "customize transaction nonce" engaged will not negatively impact you in any way. I typically turn it off to clean up my interface.

Just to be clear, you were sending ETH out of your wallet initially to a different wallet. The transaction did not go through. You followed the steps and "knocked out" the original transaction. Now you are asking when your original principal will return in your wallet? Did you reset your MetaMask wallet? If you go to your etherscan, are there any remaining pending transactions? A couple of notes: 1/ The gas fee on the original transaction will never be returned to you 2/ The gas fee for knocking out the original transaction will never be returned to you

Follow the video and use 0 as your nonce. Make sure you check etherscan.io/gastracker and don't transact until gas price is less than 100 gwei otherwise the gas price will be too high.
