I used 3m black weather sealant. The brake light is the most common place where it leaks
@socalautoglasskings5 ай бұрын
No these back glasses leak from factory. The reason is that its bonded to plastic, and the plastic cracks from body flex. Thus, theres a break in the bond and the glass leaks

Thank you for this video I have same 2020 Ram Rebel in L.A been using tarp to cover it last week during storm that hit Southern California it was windy too.. I tried sealing the fin and third break light and it’s still leaking. Thanks to your description and excellent video with a nice clean fix. I finally realized that my truck is leaking from about the same place on the right. now I will go ahead order the silicone from Amazon hopefully fix it by next rainfall. Thanks a-lot buddy cheers from L.A 👏🏻

You better do the entire top and sides of your window, as it will leak everywhere eventually. I have been there done that. I also used permatex silicone around the 3rd brake light and roof antenna. Because I learned the $1,800. Hard way. My RF Hub module corroded and failed that’s right below the rear middle window. See my video on my 2020 ram I did. Good luck!

Just around the entire 3rd brake light with the silicone ? Did you also do anything for inside the 3rd break light?
@leftturn67206 ай бұрын
@@josephw.gilmore7115 I took the 3rd brake light off and ran a bead of permatex silicone around the middle of entire gasket to make sure it could never leak there. Even though I wasn’t 100% sure that it ever did leak. I also just ran a bead of the same around the top antenna as an extra precaution as you can see in my video. It’s clear, and you cannot tell if it’s there. I just wasn’t going to take any chances as small leaks are hard to find out the exact spot they are coming from. Plus it’s an easy fix. I contacted permatex to make sure It was ok at 45-50 degrees for the temperature was good to adhere. They said anything 40 and up. And I did see many ram owners from 2019 and newer had leaks from antenna and 3rd brake light, but most water leaks came from window frame cracking. Bad failed design and no fix, they just replace with same old failed parts. Good luck!

Our 2022 Rebel has the same exact problem. There is a tiny leak near the rear window and water leaked into hub module. It is at the dealer as I type this and they are assuring us the replacement glass won't leak again. Extended warranty rejected claim saying 'water is an exclusion' . They have quoted us $2500 to fix. Reading these comments is making me think this is likely to happen again :(

Squeeze and razor blade the nozzle end to fit INTO that space between body and glass ... you want that sealant to go in BEHIND the glass, flooding the area on TOP of the factory window seal. That's how I did it.
@WeekndGarage7 ай бұрын
That works too, I just flooded the whole channel between the glass and body. The sealant flowed into the cracks just fine

@KrustyKlown6 ай бұрын
@@javiertopete1104 Yes... Amazon has it ... "Permatex 81730 Flowable Silicone Windshield and Glass Sealer" .. packaging is different for USA. This stuff is great because it is a low viscosity (thin not thick) silicone material that readily flows and fills, unlike normally available silicone sealants. Just cut off the included nozzle.. crush it with plyers to flatten it, then thin it further with a razor blade so if easily fits in between the body and glass to fill the space in behind the glass. I just filled the space above the glass and around the corners.. NOT down the sides and NOT at the bottom. When done right, that sealant won't be visible from the rear of your truck, as it will be in behind the glass forming a seal between the back of the glass, the OEM seal and the truck body. Also worth noting.. most leakage back there usually comes from the 3rd brake light seal... which IS NOT A Seal, lol .. the factory seal is a damn sponge foam piece of crap that leaks. Remove that useless seal and replace with this product on Amazon "Weather Seal Strip, Marine Weather Stripping - MD Building Products 01033" ... that's a REAL seal. DO NOT use any sealant on this 3rd brake light, because you must be able to remove the light asm to replace any bulbs. I did these two things on my RAM .. all my leaks are GONE, bone dry.. and I am very happy. Less than $20 spent....1-2hrs work total.

According to the sealant manufacturer it was designed for windshield use, I’m sure it will be fine since it’s in the crevice of the glass and not sitting on the roof getting baked

I had a 2019 Ram Laramie and had puddle of water under driver rear seat . Dealer ordered the glass, I sold the truck due to part on back order. Was notified 6 months later the part came in..here I am 3 years later buying a 2019 Limited and checked this before purchase but found no water . After 3 days heavy rain I have slight dampness under back seat. Do you have a preferred third brake light because I have heard to replace that as well as the silicon.

Glad it helped! No chemicals, doesn’t hurt to perform a surface prep though. Just make sure the chemical you use won’t dry and leave residue where it conflicts with silicone adhesion.

Man, thank you so much for this! I bought a 2023 Ram 1500 Big Horn/Lonestar in August of last year. While fishing at a nearby pier, a local approached me and asked me what year my truck is; I told him it's a 2023, and (in an effort to look out for me) he told me all about this issue here, and how he was a victim of it, and had to pay a few thousand to get the repairs done on his Ram. I just completed a thorough leak test, and I cannot find any leaks (and haven't noticed any since I've owned the truck here in rainy Florida). But can you tell me if I should still do this in the name of preventative maintenance, or do the factory seals around the 3rd brake light/windows keep their integrity over time? Also, is that a small camera that you have at 00:48, pointing behind your truck? I set up a dash cam, and installed the license plate camera behind a headrest in a similar fashion, but your method looks way more secure, and way cleaner. If that is a camera, do you mind letting me know which brand it is, please?
@WeekndGarage5 ай бұрын
No problem! you can confirm if your truck is currently leaking by spraying the top of the rear glass with a garden hose it will instantly leak if it isnt sealed properly. (It will leak eventually with the frost/heat cycles due to the environment) so you could do it as a preventative measure. Yes i have a front and rear camera hardwired for motion detection as well when the car is parked. Model is a Thinkware F800 Pro 2 Ch camera, theres a new version from this company. Sadly, this didn’t work on my truck, but…Ram just recently extended the warranty on the seals on the fin and lights. I called in and let them know that the seal failed on my back window.I explained that the only way for my window frame to crack on the inside of my truck was if water was getting into the seal and expanding from freezing temps. They replaced it. I didn’t have to pay a dime. I didn’t go through the dealership, but contacted the Ram warranty service directly.
