I like how you proceed methodically through this, not getting frustrated, just trying things until it works. That's how I fix things, too. Question: if the mirror gets hit and swivels on the rotator, can it be loosened and put back by taking it off the door?

Thanks for this video. I just fixed my wife’s car. Hardest part was removing the mirror (and remembering where all the screws went back). Most complicated, but cheap fix ever. Just as a tip, I used a small suction cup to remove the mirror. Was scared of breaking it as it took a lot of force but it came off. Also interesting to find out that the painted part on the outside of the mirror can clip off. For those that are not up to pulling the whole mechanism apart, this means that you could replace with another mirror and simply change over the cover if not matching the car.

It works common problem I just did both mirrors On my 2012 optima, when you replace gear all things on the mirror will work again.

Sometimes my left mirror will go out but never fold in, or I’ll have to manually do both after hitting the button that controls the mirror. And it’s makes a sound immediately after starting the car. Followed the video instructions with help from a GM tech. The repair did not fix the problem. Disassembled and reassembled several times the confirm the procedure was followed correctly. Before the repair you could hear the motor running but after replacing the broken gear your could just hear a hum like the gear was jammed preventing the motor from turning. Any thoughts about another problem with the mirror? Thanks

@@tunez4moodz34 The nylon plastic gear (wheel) became an free on the horizontal metal gear which caused failure of movement of mirror.

I have disconnected my cable attached to the mirror as it makes a grinding noise one way and can't folde or adjust my mirror. My mirrors sometimes fold and other times don't fold . First specially when i went to car washing . It returns to fold . After a while don't . I don't know what is the cause and how to fix it . Specially now it is completely stopped to fold even when i was notcing it was folding after car wash . Something related to strong water of car washers . Lovely to know how to disassemble one of these. My mirror is dangling by the wires currently. Any idea whether that's fixable? From this video I now suspect some screws or their holes have been stripped. If it can't be repaired I'd like to know before I take the whole thing apart.

i changed my Hyundai broken gear too but when i connect it to the car the keys are malfunctioning . left single folds the mirrors and the folding key turns left signal ! any idea how to fix it i rechecked all wiring and all are correct. i even tried the right-wing mirror on it and the same happens

You should have shown how to remove the actual mirror, it's not as easy as u made it look. The glass can actually break while removing it.

9 months late but for anyone else, use you’re fingers and push the top of the mirror in so that the bottom portion of the mirror is facing up. Should be a gap there now, plenty large enough to then take a long nylon plastic trim removal tool. Wedge it in there behind the mirror then pry down so the trim tool is getting leverage against the outer edge of the mirror housing and the tip of the pry tool should be pressing against the back of the mirror and pop out. You should be able to find a set of these at a local parts store or a Harborfreight tools store. I have a set of Bojo made in the USA trim removal tool set that’s nice. Use a plastic one and not a metal pry tool or screwdriver, you will be less prone to marring any surface of your mirror. Good luck 👍🏾

Though it seems like you may break it off, just slide your fingers on the back side of the mirror and pull. The mirror is attached by plastic clips.

The passenger side mirror on my 2010 Hyundai YF i45 Elite Sedan will only fold in a short way and then stops. Maybe its a faulty gear as in this video. Has anyone replaced the mirror gear in a i45 model ? Where would I purchase the gear for a i45 from ? Thanks for the video.

Typical engineering stupidity - when will they ever understand that nylon gears mixed with metal ones do NOT mix! Done only to rip the poor consumer off via expensive repairs.

I honestly don't know if I'm correct about this, maybe you may know more about the matter, but a shop near my place explained that it was designed to break under load apparently to prevent jams from damaging the motor/circuits? Do you know if this is true? if it is, will using the metal version of the gear be a concern? Again, I dont know anything about the matter. But i'm in the exact same situation with my Kia Forte 2013.

@@spazticorange1 Well possibly - but there are far better ways to go about preventing breaks under load.....a small frictional disk - type system for instance could easily be incorporated in the mirror to give way under excess loading. One example are most fishing reels - they use a fictional disk system which lets the reel give way under load.....nothing complicated and nothing to break. The mix of metal and plastic gearing incorporated into anything mechanical is always very prone to damage in the short term, whether the system is placed under excess load or otherwise and it's a dumb and ultimately expensive way for a customer to solve the issue if the advice you received from the shop is correct. A great many household appliances for instance use a similar mix of gears and fail solely because the plastic and metal gears aren't adjusted or aligned correctly in the first instance - hence the appliance is rendered useless when the plastic gear section/s wears out prematurely. Due to the cost of labor, repairs to the same are not considered a viable option and as such, these items are simply thrown into the refuse bin and another one purchased! And this is the purpose behind the whole exercise - to lift every dollar from your pocket that can be obtained from a society which has been cleverly 'educated' into throwing everything away as soon as it becomes broken. There's no money in repairing things when robots are your main work force turning out hundreds or thousands of the one product an hour - and you need to flog them off real quick!
