This Swagtron Swagger 5 scooter would only pulse when the throttle was pressed. No continuous drive. This video shows the steps to troubleshoot this type of scooter as well as shows the solution to this particular failure and how to fix it. Very easy fix once you know where the problem is.

Thanks for making this video. None of the easier fixes worked on my kids scooter so I bought him a better version than a Swagtron, but one day I will get around to taking the wheel apart and checking in there.

This video was super helpful thank you for making it. I started having an issue with my swagger 5 scooter recently where driving straight, the scooter just loses acceleration like yours did. I know its a problem with that switch by the brake handle because sometimes if I pump the brakes it will let me accelerate again. Although sometimes, I see the display flickering in and out of consciousness and then it just dies... but I can start it back up after a few seconds. I was at work today so I only had time to remove the bottom plate and reseat all the connectors. if it continues happening Ill pull off the wheel hub and take a look like you did. im glad there are helpful people out there like yourself that will make a video like this, at no benefit to themselves. Very much appreciated. thumbs up and subscribed.

@@Aggressivefun apparently these scooters have another problem. When the odometer hits 57 plus miles and you come back from a ride and try to turn it off it will beep and get "stuck"and you will not be able to turn it off and the beeping will stay steady, you can simply disconnect the battery and that will reset the odometer to zero, it already happened twice with mine

With some tweezers,they slipped out of my hands burning the display board. My scooter is new and has only been used less than 10 times. My daughter rode it yesterday on good dry pavement. She said it just turned off while she was riding so she ended up kicking like a regular scooter. I am currently charging it to see if battery just died. I tried to turn it back on and nothing was happening. Going to leave it plugged for at least 3 hours and hopefully that's all it needs 😭

The same has happened to our sons, we tried to charging it and the panel will still not turn on. We’re still working on it and trying to figure out the problem. We have only had for 2.5 months and purchased brand new before it happened. 😢

Hi sir have the same swagtron 5, got issues with, rode it one day and suddenly just died on me, call the company, was told to ship it to Indiana, they couldn't even tell me if they could fix it or not , they're not helpful at all , on top of that the lady was rude , so I decided to buy another one glarewheel same as Hiboy max 1. I really like swagtron, after almost a year not riding it I decided to ride it and see if it's going to work, it did work and it ended up dying again, so I don't know if it's the battery or something else. But one day I got caught up with the rain so you think that water might got in. Please help. Thanks

Yeah, it might be related to being in the rain. Water can do really unpredictable things with electronics. I'd take the bottom battery cover off and check the connectors, like I show in the video, and then look for any water damage or corrosion. If that all looks good, I'd then open the wheel motor cover and verify that nothing got wet there and that all of the wiring is in the correct locations. I'd then take the display electronics out and check for any water damage and proper wiring. Hopefully you'll find something amiss in one of those areas. Thanks for watching! Good luck!

Thank you so much for your reply, I'm a female haha😂😜 I will ask my boyfriend to take it look at it, he's very good with cars , I also gonna have him watch your video to repair my scooter because the hiboy max is acting up lately, I'm riding and it just stopped, so i pressed the handbrake few times and it start working again there must be something wrong with, not the battery but the headlight is flickering since last week, so i really don't know what's going on sir. I can't afford to buy another one right now . Back to swagtron 5 if it's the battery it is possible to buy a new one ? Where can I get it from , because I really don't want to deal with the company. I watched a video saying that xiaomi M365 , Bird, and Lime have the same battery, do you know if it's true or not. I don't know about the compatibility with other scooters but a good Google search should point you to the battery info across the models.

I've not seen that error myself and I'm not finding anything when I do a search for it. It sounds like it might be from the main control PCB but I don't know for sure. Sorry about that.

Hello I have a problem. I have a swagtron sg-8 swagger 8 and my throttle wont work to accelerate. But i did notice that 3 wires are loose and not attached to where it was attached before. what should I do?

Is the battery charged? Do the display lights come on? Have you checked the battery connectors? If you follow my steps at the first of the video, how far do you get? Lots of things to check to determine your individual issue. Let me know what you are seeing. Thanks for watching!

Hello, I have a problem that looks a lot like this. When I was going down the street it only turned off before turning off the display said E3 and then it didn't turn on again I plugged it in to the power and it turns on again But it turns off very soon I accelerated it by lifting it so that it would not advance and the motor was still working but as soon as I stop accelerating it it turns off very soon and does not turn on again until I plug it in It has 5 battery bars I don't know what it will be, I'll disarm it by watching this video to see if I can find the problem

Thank you. Great Video. I have a Swagtron Sg-3. It is acting similar to the 1 in the video. Just Pulses when Accelerator is Pressed. Then "01" starts flashing on display. The cables are internal to the handle and the go into the axle of the front Wheel. Could not remove Front wheel due to cable being too tight. 1) Are there electric Scooter repair shops? Could not find any on Google. 2) Where can I get a replacement front Wheel? (xdy36v180901872)

Very welcome! Thank you! Not sure about scooter repair shops. I've not seen any around us so I'm not much help there. I found some front wheels that I purchased at an auction but I don't have a source for specific scooter parts. It would be quite the find to find a website that specializes in that. There is a lot of need for scooter repair parts but I think most people want them to just be disposable and purchase new. Wish I could help more. Thanks for watching!

Mine did almost the same thing but the throttle did let me go a little longer but then stopped working at random times. So I opened the throttle part to see if the wires were maybe touching or lose and now that I put it back the throttle doesn’t do anything Anymore more but now when I press the brake and after releasing it now the scooter goes forward continuously until i press the brakes and then it turn it off. Any ideas on how I can fix it ? Thanks I’m advance

Very odd. My experience has been that when something is so erratic, it's wiring. Including connectors. You may have some worn insulation or a pin in a connector that is loose or no longer making contact. Or it could be that the electronic controller PCB has a bad component or bad solder joint. Also, has anything on the inside been wet? That can cause huge intermittent problems.

@@Aggressivefun thanks for your help I ended up fixing the problem weeks ago. The problem was the magnetic chip that engaged the throttle was not soldered correctly from factory and I just bought a new one and that solved the issue

I got mine for 80 bucks and it was brand new. It had the very same problem, it took me a couple hours to find out what was wrong and i simply used a mini zip tie to keep them away from the plate.

Happened twice with mine and you simply open the bottom part and disconnect the battery and that will reset the odometer to zero again

Have the E 1 code fixed it but the Error code wont go away. How do you reset the code?

I've not had that issue before but have you tried unplugging the battery, to completely power down all of the electronics, and then plugging it back in? You may want to leave it unplugged for a longer period to make sure it has completely powered down. Hopefully that will reset the electronics and clear any error codes. Keep in mind that if the condition that causes the error code still exists, then the error indication will come right back. Hope that helps.

My Swagger 5 died as well. Just stopped 15 min into a ride. No display or any signs of life. Battery was fully charged. Opened up the base to look for loose connectors, blown fuse, shorted wire etc. Found nothing. Does anyone know where I can get a diagram of the motor connector pins? I want to use the motor on another project.

Hmm...I've not dealt with a Swagger 5 death yet. If you know the battery is charged/good, all of your connectors/wiring are in place and correct, and that it didn't get wet inside, then I would suspect the electronic motor drive/electronic PCB. Poking around with a DVM and oscilloscope would be my next step. Not sure on the actual motor pinout. I have some very similar new scooter wheel motors, for a different scooter, that I need to pinout for as well. I'll do some searching and see what I can find. Thanks for watching!

My daughter scooter stopped working. The screen shows like an upside down 13 and you push the brakes its jerking like it wants to move but does not and tried reseting it bit does not work but it charges up no 000 on screen.

Hmm...I've not seen those issues with mine so I'm not sure what to suggest. My guess is maybe a battery issue where the voltage is to low even after a charge. Maybe a bad battery. Thanks for watching!

I heard about a hack for removing the speed limiter where you hold the brake lever while powering up to get in to a programming mode and then use the throttle to change settings. Not having a clue what i was doing I've got the scooter all screwed up - and Swagtron assures me there is no programming feature - no help at all. Don't try it unless you know about programming.

Locked like it mechanically won't spin? Even with power off moving it with your hand? Have the mounting nuts come loose and the wheel shifted so it is rubbing or have the bearings locked up?

I'm not sure what causes the E4 error. I've not seen that myself. Has your scooter gotten wet lately? If so, I would start looking inside for any moisture that could cause problems. Thanks for watching!

You'll want to verify that the wiring inside is still plugged correctly, are any of the wires damaged, has the scooter gotten wet, does the charger make it go to a full charge, and is it old enough that the battery may need to be replaced? Also, are all of the wires to the throttle and controls connected and undamaged?

I don't remember one in the external wiring harness but I didn't open the controller so there might be one on the inside of the controller enclosure.

Mine has a code of E_1 that shows up on the indicater display , just clicks when u hit 5he throttle

I've not dealt with any codes so I'm not sure what that is indicating. I would try disconnecting the battery and letting all of the electronics completely power down - leave it disconnected for an extended time - maybe even overnight. And also check that all of the connectors are still connected. Good luck!

I've heard that it may relate to a bad throttle control or you may get it to clear by disconnecting power to the controller and plugging it back in. I've not done these myself so I'm not sure if they actually will be a fix. Thanks for watching!

I'm not familiar with that scooter model but the same principles apply from the video. I thinkni found the problem the screen wont come on so im thinking it the control. Im going to start with that also wantedvto ask you i tried turning the motor with my power source but only has 15v will that turn the motor?

@@rudyzavala3437 15Vdc might make it turn but it depends on the actual rated voltage. Typically the batteries are 36V or 42V so the motors are going to be rated closer to the battery voltage. You can us a DVM and measure the resistance of the motor windings. The resistance should be really low, you're just measuring a big coil of copper wire in the motor, if the winding is good.

I'm not sure what causes the E4 error. I've not seen that myself. It may be that something did get wet inside so I would start looking inside for any moisture that could cause problems. Thanks for watching!
