You DON’T need to remove the diff to replace the seal. It is a ton of work for no reason. It is very easy to do wile it is attached.

You kept saying previous owner, and I just kept going “me” cause I bought my car at 20k miles salvaged. When I installed a watts link on my mustang, it came with a diff cover that let the links attach to the cover. Boy that thing leaked ALL the fluid out the first time I installed it. The bolts backed out and the cover separated from the diff from all the forces on the watts link. When I installed the cover for a third time I did all these steps and it is finally dry as a bone! These tips def work, for my application I added some thread locker and I marked the bolts with paint to be able to visually check if the bolts were starting to back out. Haven’t had a problem since! Thanks for the content Shredder!

To save you all some time. Put perfectly clean container under the differential and collect your fluid, keeping it clean. Put silicone or a new gasket on, and slap the cover back on, making sure to torque the bolts correctly. Put fluid back in and you're good. Now, if you haven't recently replaced your fluid, and that fluid you took out is old, just go ahead and buy a few new bottles of whatever your diff needs and dump the old stuff. In my case, I had a shop work on my rear end and they didn't seal it up right, so I saved the brand new fluid and used an old bottle to spray it back into the diff. In your case you'll probably just buy new stuff, so get a little more than what your rear end takes and squeeze it in while making sure the bottle is mostly full. Do this by putting the other fluid into the bottle you are using to keep it filled up. This way you don't need a pump. Fill until it begins to gently pour out, wait until it stops pouring and you're done.

If you just buy the gasket do you still need to put down a the sealant or if you have the gasket that’s plenty enough? My 04 ford f250 needs gasket replaced and it’s only $10 bucks for the gasket.

i live in the uk and bought an 200sx s14a around end of October, i didnt want to put it on the road until april this year because in the uk even in mild weather the government or whoever puts around a half inch of salt on the roads and being an old car it will just rust when that salt gets in it so i didnt bother.. now with this corona crysis i cant afford to put it on the road its just in my garage every time i see it i get so annoyed i cant drive the thing. but anyway i got a spare diff which is leaking and i wasnt gonna do anything with it but after this video might dust off my tools and perhaps fit it

I can see why pulling the diff would be an option for anyone who is looking to reseal their diffs. The reason being is oil contamination during the curing process if not cleaned throughly. If the diff is still on the car I can see some remaining diff fluid flowing down and getting into the new seal and ruining it. Other than that, love this vid!

Hey sorry for this thought dumb question but I’m a situation where I don’t have time to look for my leak, I know it leaks from diff. My car is also lowered and don’t have flat ground to jack up and check. Where are all the possible leaking areas? I might have bent it from hitting the ground or something, I think it might just be an old gasket, can that happen? I don’t think it’s ever been taken apart. Just need to make sure it stops leaking so I can have my car for the future. Thanks! I’m in a tough spot and don’t have money for a shop. Need to fix this and don’t have time to play with it now

Your son can take it on, it's just that for most guys, it will take them 15 hours. The car will sit there for many days and many weeks. Or if they start at 10am-5pm will come, and they are still working on it. Maybe because they got stuck on a particular step. A missing socket, missing part, need replacement part, etc. That $500 u save, will come out of your son in laws time in life. No doubt he can do it. But at what cost.

It doesn't matter, your using permatex black. . You can mar the metal on the lip, use permatex black, and you will have no leaks. That's the advantage of gasket maker.
