*Great **Latest.Bike** , good looking, good suspension and love the gearing. I've tested some bikes that were more then twice the price but not as good. Get lots of looks when riding.*

3:19 Dude finally gives how to. I like also using pipe insulation to protect the frame and forks. My IBIS Ripmo sustained zero damage on international flights in my EVOC bike travel bag pro. I’m watching how to pack/unpack, since my sherpa husband won’t be along on my upcoming Camino Portugues, so I need to do this myself. Brian is engaging, so I’ll check out his other videos.

A couple of other pointers I've learned from experience - Buy some closed cell foam pipe insulation to protect frame tubes. They're cheap and they work really well. An alternative to the airline is send your bike ahead of time via UPS / Fedex. It will save a few bucks and it will be insured. And don't leave any hardware lose in the bag or it will cause damage. Good video thanks and I'll have to check out the Evoc Pro bag.

If you do rent a bike when you travel, try to remember that in some countries, (UK) the brake levers are reversed. Here in the US the rear brake is on the right, it's usually on the left over there.

This is a cool bag! How did it hold up for your trip(s)? Quick question - do you suggest removing rotors/have you had the airlines bend them? Traveling with extra seems like a good idea or just taking mine off!
@bkxc

It really gets beat up and ages about a year with each flight, but it protects the bike! I have heard people have problems with the rotors, I leave them on. I'll probably get burned by it eventually.

I've used a Scicon for 13 years, case has a few scuffs but the bike has always been intact. I would never use a soft case, seen a couple of damaged bikes at the other end of a flight with those and that was a couple too many. It would be interesting to know the damage list when you were in Spain, Brian, could make an interesting video on what too take/ prepare for on potential mechanical's when abroad. Keep up the good work!
@bkxc
@bkxc 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Woz! Does SciCon make a hard MTB case? Looks like just a road bike case. The only damage I sustained in Spain was some scratches to the frame and wheels. Nothing broke!
@wozzupp8647
@wozzupp8647 7 жыл бұрын
Technically it is a road bike case - but I've had my Downhill bike, and Intense T275c in with room to spare. The wheel wells are meant for a road bike wheel diameter so 27.5 fit no problem at all. And like I said 13 years and god knows how many flights (and baggage handlers) and still going strong.

Hello mate, Great job with this video. I have a question for you. I was wondering whether a fat bike would fit in this bag. I am asking because I saw someone else on facebook (store) who did it (the tires had to be flat) and I just wanted an opinion from someone who actually uses this bag constantly like you. What do you think? Thanks in advance, man. Looking forward to hearing from you

Just picked up the pro. I have to admit, I am a little nervous taking my full carbon mountain bike on an airplane but it’s too awesome to leave home. It’s also nice to know that I don’t have to go chase down a rental when my flight arrives and can go straight to the trails instead. Also I am able to keep it below 50lb and that will help justify the expense depending on the airlines. Thanks for the video because it helped with my decision. Can you note a little update on how your bag is holding up or do you find yourself renting more lately?

IF the axles are in the frame will flex less, but if they are not all the way in they can unscrew them selves and damage the threads if they get hit
@bkxc

Interesting!
@mtbboy1993
@mtbboy1993 7 жыл бұрын
But then again if the frame flex there will be friction between those two,so to eliminate this is to have a hub or some sort of axle insert thing,like on roof racks. In my opinion this is what you should do, have something in there. with Skewers the frame will still flex of course.

Reason for leaving a skewer in with a pvc or dowell spacer is so that when a baggage handler walks over your bike and stands on the stays, or your bike is the bag at the bottom of the pile, they can support the weight. Remembering of course that a baggage handler in poor health could weigh in excess of 200 lbs. I'm trusting the skewer and spacer over the foam bag.

sadly it's the same if you send the bike or components via mail. once i received a package of grips i ordered and some other stuff, it looked like a dog had it in its mouth, and some sued the package as a soccer ball. it was POSTEN NORGE but this happen only once. but a lot of the stuff i ordered from Norwegian online stores have been packaged quite well, with plastic air bags and cardboard, But even thou some workers are careless, they don't put stuff that weigh 30 kg on a small package, that's just Below Stupid. if you are too stupid ppl will notice and you get fired. recived a package to the door by ups ones the edges of the carton were banged up, but product inside was fine, but under transport under heavy braking i guess it could happen, so packaging stuff with ESP is a good idea,which most electronics are packaged in. so packaging a bike in it is a good idea I think. there will always be some stupid person some where. but so far I have had good experiences so far,but I have never travelled by plane.

For a second there, I thought you were going to install a hang-glider system onto your frame somehow and ride it off a desert cliff lol ohhhh airports....right

Your bike doesn't have skewers, it has threw-axles. A swing arm without a hub bolted in is not that strong. I had my Yeti carbon swingarm crack by side loading on a recent trip. That was probably around the 20th flight with the evoc bag and no problems. For the return trip with new swing arm Yeti warrantied (thanks Yeti!) I did the PVC spacer thing and would 200% recommend everyone does the same. You just don't know when it'll be that time when the baggage handlers (chuckers!) Have run out of fucks to give! By the way, evoc have a subframe thing coming out that looks like a good idea.

Gotta have the bike stand, it makes everything so much easier and more safe.

yeah def makes it more safe.. but isnt the non pro version essentially the same thing, except with the stand?

That actually looks like a good must have item even for road trips so you can stuff your bag in the trunk and not have to worry as much about prying eyes on a bike that's on a bike rack while your inside eating.
@bkxc

Very true about that, it does keep stuff clean and out of the way.

It's great! Hasn't had any problems. Definitely a couple little features with the Pro version that make it worth it.

I only started having moldy problems once I started putting stuff in my water. When I just had water I had no problems. Now I do a rinse out and put it in the freezer. That seems to work.

Takes only a few extra minutes to remove the 6 rotor bolts, rotors are fragile, and even though these evoc cases have a reinforced area for the rotors its flexible plastic, and on last trip to Hawaii you could see where the axle had been pressed hard into the plastic and deformed it, and my base alloy frame rails on bottom of the case were bent inwards between the crank and the fork, like it was dropped on a hard edge, nothing I can't bend back straight, (weighed 85lbs.. Westjet allow 100lbs, 29er wheels, are a bit of a tight fit, had to let tire pressures down to 5 psi, to get them in the sleeves, great cases none the less and feel happy packing it worldwide

I have seen a youtube video where a mountain biker packed his bike in a hockey goalie bag because hockey equipment flies for free. Nowhere near as secure. He had to wrap the bike with pads but it was free. He said the airline staff never looked in the bag. Give it shot and let us know if it works.

One extra tire, extra derailleur hangers, one set of brake pads and two brake rotors. There will be lots of bike shops around on this trip so we can always re-stock.

Did you do anything to secure the dropper so it doesn't get accidently risen? (secure it to the frame)

Is there any kind of insurance available from the airline or a third party? It also might be a good idea to take a bunch of pictures beforehand.
@bkxc
@bkxc 7 жыл бұрын
I'm sure there is some sort of 3rd party insurance available. The travel insurance I've seen when offered at checkout definitely doesn't cover the whole $8,000 bike though, so you'd probably need to go searching for a higher tier.

Homeowners or renters should cover it...probably best to call your agent though. I know my bike is covered if it gets smashed by the airport goons.
