Hi i came across your video on how to FreeStyle. I am 72 yrs. old and I loved dancing when young but didn't let loose, like you said I was worried what others would think of me. Anyway, i was able to follow your steps and add some of my own. You're a great instructor. When my grandson is playing his music I always dance around the house now he will be surprise with my new moves. Thanks to you, Christine

Thank you for this video. My instructor is constantly asking us to improv in the spot and I always freeze but the way you just taught it makes me feel a little better about. I think this video just solved my dilemma, when I'm alone, I listen to music and just vibe while dancing whatever I want to dance, it made me feel free. But when I'm in public, I just can't do it and feel awkward whenever I try to freestyle, and it's because I'm scared of what others think of me. But I can do it alone, because no one would be watching. Thank you for this! I'll be focusing on my confidence real quick XD

Excellent! It’s frustrating for me because I try to mimic some of these moves exactly as shown but somehow I just don’t look quite as smooth as this guy. Guess some people have a knack for it. My goal is to not be terrible, this is the best vid so far I’ve found

tbh freestyle is fine and "Easy" if you [fyi im no pro, just "experienced"] -become confident "fake it if you're not w im on top of the world attitide" -use moves you know, or make new ones. start w bopping w the base line etc then as you get the feel for it [or vibe] it will come naturally -"study" pro freestyles, you can learn some moves /techniques [but please do not try and do something way too advanced] -stay on beat -dance musically, the texture/dynamic/rhythm etc -vibeeeeee -stretch and warm up before [ trust me...] -practice at home, on your own[ with some songs you re familiar w and not so familiar with] remember: no ones judging you. There are no rules in freestyling and you cant fail or lose. no one is expecting you to dance like a pro [yet...].

Im good at coming up with foot work but I never know what to do with my hands

I've wanted to learn how to dance well for years now, but only last week decided that I was finally going to do something about it. Like I do with everything I'm new to, I started by researching as much as I could, but everywhere I looked people repeated the same advice (just get drunk first, just be more confident, just *feel* the music). Maybe it's just the way my brain works, but all of that was terrible advice for me, and it didn't tell me anything at all. But this video helped me to realize what I need to do: practice a number of "moves" individually until they become second nature, then string them together while staying on the beat. That's it! But the important part is to practice the individual moves. That's where the confidence comes from. You master something simple, then it's just a matter of combining that simple thing with the other simple things you've mastered. Well, thanks for the video and the 'aha' moment!

I've been learning to dance thanks to you, and also from taking classes, and doing a cypher in some classes has caused me serious anxiety! I've never been able to do them, I'd just freeze up or refuse to get in there. I'm going to keep watching this video and practicing, would it be possible to do a series out of this video? I guess there isn't much else to teach since it's freestyle, but you're so good at teaching anything, even a part 2 repeating what you've taught would be welcomed

Love freestyle - it's all freestyle, really, once you get the music that makes you want to get up and do sumthin'. I take this the gym w/ me w/ light weights and the moves- and I'm not talking a class room. I'm talking out in the gym floor in my 2x2' space. I'm amazed how good it looks, following his instructions. M 63 years old and pretty fit. Peeps come up and want to know if I'm a dancer. Of course, I say, "...yes, I am, right this minute, thanks to poppin' John and Mihran K." Can't bust some moves as smooth as these two, fine, young men, but of the moves I have... I crank up my music and...dang....three hours at the gym feels like 30 minutes and I love the the gym....one of my fave sanctuaries.
