These figs were frozen specifically to make Fig Newtons. They have been dried in the oven to a certain consistency. If you have a fig tree or can find fresh figs, they make excellent fig preserves or just cook and put them over a hot buttered biscuit. Drying the figs makes them as sweet as candy.
Figs are very nutritious and loaded with vitamins and minerals also ant-oxidants which help to remove free radicals from our bodies.

Hi Phyllis, my husband found your KZfaq video and we both enjoyed it so much. Thank you for taking time to really explain what you are doing. We are just processing our second big batch of figs after following your instructions last week for the first batch. That batch came out great! So easy, and no added sugar. We really didn't want to make preserves since we still have left-over jars from last summer. Canning is a LOT more work. Thanks again, Phyllis - I've already passed along this video to the friend that let us pick her fabulous figs!

Thank you, this was so helpful. A friend brought me 100s of figs from his tree, and I spent all day making preserves and then he dropped of 100s more! Such a wonderful gift but I didn't know what to do with them all until I found your video.

Saw your video yesterday, and followed your suggestions of cooking, then for some duration in oven. Figs turned out perfect. Thanks so much for sharing. Cheers from Texas!

Great Video! I have a fig tree in my back yard, we usually eat a few and give the rest away. What a great idea to freeze them! I'm really excited to try your fig newton recipe :) Thanks for the video.

Thanks. I made a basic pear tart that used fig jam i made on top of a base, then pears arranged on top then baked. It was great. But I don’t use fig jam other than for cooking so I was researching freezing them, I’m now going to prepare some figs as per your video and freeze in a circle same size as a small baking tin, then I’ll have that fig layer always ready to make any kind of tart or as a cheesecake topping.

Thanks so much for this video with great instructions which helped me to not freeze them this time, but prepare them for the Fig Newton recipe you also made. Thanks so much.

Love your oven idea! I think I'll try it with parchment paper under the figs. Wanted to mention for folks who just don't want to turn on their oven at this time of the year - there are several posts on sun drying figs - that's what I'm trying next.

I never knew that a fig was a flower! Holy cow! Again you have taught me something. My grandmother canned fig preserves and I use them in my fruit cakes. I don't make the traditional fruit cakes, I have stepped out of the box sort a to speak. lol I have never made fig preserves but I would sure love to learn. Hint, Hint. LOL In fact I used my last jar and I have got to find some more. Good thoughts sent to you my friend. :)

A couple years ago, an asparagus plant appeared under our fig tree and has done fine. It's under the base, though. It seems to really like where it is. Perhaps it's the damp climate where we live. Great video. Thanks.

Hello bina2one, I'm sorry I don't know the first thing about dehydrating but buying a dehydrator is on my list of things to purchase soon. I love dried fruits of all kinds so I know I'm missing the boat by not having a dehydrator. Thanks for watching and commenting, Phyllis

I really like this video and the one about making fig newtons. Do you freeze the figs in one cup containers so you can make as few or as many as you want to at one time?

I freeze in qt. freezer bags and make them as flat as I can in the bag. There are not many in each bag.

Thank you for your informative video. I've been "afraid" to eat the figs off of my tree, since. I didn't know how to prepare them. I have a super batch this year, because of all the rain (!!!), and didn't want to waste them. They're all not ripening at the same rate, so now that I know how to freee them, I'm going to go for it. I'm also going to try making fig newtons!! Thanks for the ideas!!!

nmtsaki goodness, you are in for a treat! There’s a multitude of recipes on KZfaq alone. They are extraordinary eaten fresh when truly ripe (I like them to “cry”), or warmed, roasted, grilled, poached, baked, with honey, in balsamic reduction, stuffed with mascarpone or goat cheese, caramelized, brûlée, in fig ice cream, in tarts and in so many ways. I envy you for having a fig tree. Do enjoy discovering this heavenly fruit!

I used to love Fig Newtons when I was a kid. Sadly no figs here. I do have apples though, picked them from a local orchard. Can you tell me what to do with the apples to get the road consistancy for Newton cookies? Do you add spices to them like cinnamon? I just started using my food dehydrator this year, you might want to look into getting one. It's fun! Of course if you are still downsizing to sell your house, might not want one.

I would try drying the apples partially and then grind them into a pulp.

Isn't that really what would be called roasted? I thought dehydrated meant all liquid is removed. Looks great whichever....Thanks
