How to Gate a Floor Tom Drum - #AscensionTechTuesday - EP035
The floor tom can be a tricky beast to tame. This week Chad shows us how to gate a floor tom without making it sound choppy or unnatural.
We will be demonstrating using the Waves C1 Compressor/Gate in Logic X but these techniques will work for most any digital mixer or DAW setup!

fantastic I use the c1 compressor so this is excellent for the gate and side chain great tips on the c1

You may want to check out this video as well. In this video I stack 2 gates to treat the highs and lows independently - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/acyPlJmSqtfHlpc.html I haven't had a chance to record it yet but I have a new video coming soon where I do the double gate trick but with a Waves F6 plugin instead. It's super cool and very effective when it comes to cleaning up loud cymbal bleed :) Thanks for watching and commenting! -Chad

This is great but I have a question tho Is it right for kick to be on the mains or only the subs And what crossover setting would you recommend for the tops

Kind of random haha You absolutely want the kick in both the mains and the subs. Kick drums need a little top end around 3k for the clarity of the kick to cut through.
